Blackpool 4-0 Coventry, 22 December 2007:

Christmas-related traffic leading to an M6 trip taking over four hours (usually shade two hours), only just getting in before kick-off and paying stupid parking prices.

Temporary bleachers for an away stand completely exposed to the elements in late December.

Kevin Kyle sent off in the first half.

Being hammered 4-0 in a wretched display to a team who at the time were relegation tips.

All-round shambles of a day.

Yeah remember that game at Stoke it was freezing!! Nobody knew if we had scored or not, we could not see the other end of the ground. What pisses me off is Stoke were shit, but look were they are now.

Randomly I watched this game live at about 2 in the morning whilst on the island of Koh Phi Phi.

To this day I haven't got a clue why they were showing that game live on TV there!!

Ugh, I remember that Stoke game. It's telling that I've got far more tales of woe than of joy. I guess it makes the highlights that little bit more special, like if we ever score two goals in a game again.

One away day that was the worst and best was man city away in the 80's.
We had just beat man city 0-1 and on our way out some neanderthal manc's thought it would be fun to pick on 3 cov lads, me and my mates.
Well it was like going through corry back allies and the like.
Eventually we seen some coppers on horses who weren't very pleased to see us with a bunch of knuckle draggers not far behind.
Anyway eventually got back to the car and set off pretty sharpish.
Not long into our journey back my mate decided he needed a shit and what better place than old trafford .
So in we go into the sir matt busby suite sniggering away as we went.
In my mate goes while the the 2 of us find some flourescent tubes and decide to play star wars with them, what seemed like an age out pops my mate sharpish saying he's flooded the bogs because they had no toilet paper so used his socks and other things to do what he had to do and so we left in a rush.
So off we set again, me and my mate decide to have a kip having been drinking for a few hours we thought we would get our head down and awaken back in cov.
Oh how wrong we were, my mate driving had gone up the motorway the wrong way and we awaken a couple of hours later on our way to scotland, so a quick turn around and back we head to cov in time to get changed and off up to the parrot for a few more to top the night off.
On our return to old trafford in the cup run my mate had his worst away game (darth vader from the above story) after we beat them one of us grabbed his burberry hat and threw it in the air only for it to go over the fence inch's away from the longest persons arm we could find to try and reach it, along comes a steward he'll give it back surely?
The wanker picked it up and just carried on walking, just proves stewards have always been wankers not just in cov.

easter time plymouth away. My mate bailed on me on last minute but i had already bought my train ticket. So travlled all the way down by train on my tod. Got there and by half time 3we were 4-0 down, with no goals or action of any significance in the 2nd. Cheers Coleman!

don't know if any of you has mentioned the away match at villa, we were 0-2 up at halftime then at fulltime we lost 3-2 and were confirmed relegated, at least the journey home was a short one, but that has to be the one that stands out for me

Somebody (possibly Bri Ord) punched this guy over the parapet of a bridge, we all thought he be dead, but when we looked over he was on a ledge about 3 foor down.

Northampton a few years ago..not long after the Sutton fiasco... lost 1-0
Went with a few mates, one of which drove his Talbot sunbeam..... he had a few to many in the pub a couple ,of miles from the ground... me being the sensible sort only had 1 pint... so he threw me the keys.. "here you can drive"... so I did(mistake)... he'd forgotten to tell me that he'd recently had issues with the brake master cylinder, the first I knew was when the brake pedal went to the floor and I was left scrambling for the handbrake as the car in front(not a Toyota) fast approached.. I spent the next couple of miles en-route to the ground travelling at less than 20MPH, was not best pleased, driving on the handbrake and the gears.... then we lost..awful performance which sobered everyone up... he drove home... in silence.

I remember going to Gillingham in the early 90's for an evening cup game. My mate said "Don't worry about getting there. We're going by car". Knowing he had a fairly large Vauxhall Carlton I looked forward to the long trip south. My mate turns up in the late afternoon and I went out to the car. There outside was parked his other mate at the wheel of a Fiat Cinquecento! One of the smallest bloody cars around! Those that know me will be aware that I am not a small bloke! Travelling a few miles in the back of one of these matchboxes is bad enough, but Gillingham in Kent?? What's worse I think we only managed a draw, and then had the return journey which took us all night coz the lad driving got lost on the M25! Never again!!

It was the 90's and i'm pretty sure Gary Mcallister was playing and Eion Jess. Tranmere away and we lost by i think 6 or 7-1 (please correct me on this) Rubbish performance and just the worst scoreline i have experienced against a far inferior team (on paper). Day's like that always seemed to happen as a ccfc fan.

It was 2nd rnd, 1st leg - League Cup, Tues 14th Sept 1999. Score was 5-1 to TR. We won 3-1 at HR but it wasn't enough! 6-4 agg to TR :facepalm:
(Mind you, Tranmere went on to the Final and lost 2-1 against Incester!)

Thanks Houchen. Yes i guess looking back Tranmere weren't that bad. It was just that night it felt like a particularly poor performance...(hence the feeling it was 6-1 or 7-1)

Being ambushed at Stoke was a bit of a bad day out.
We were being led to the train station by some nervous coppers, we were full of lager and unaware what was about to happen. We were told to run by the coppers as we came under attack by bottles and bricks, and we looked back to see a large mob of Stoke lads going berserk. They hid behind gravestones in a church !
There was only about a hundred of us but as we weren't ready for a scrap we legged it, and how nobody got killed was pure luck. They were even trying to get at us on the train. That was scary.

Two games in the 60’s stand out. One at Wolves, we turned out in force but when we got close to Molinuex, the game had been called off due to fog. We were then given a good chasing by Wolves, and I remember as we ran down the street a Cov fan was standing there shouting ‘I’ll down the next f***** who runs’. Nobody stopped! God knows what happened to him - was he nicknamed Killer? We then travelled around the Midlands by train, trying to get to see a game, which we never managed.

Then, a night game somewhere in the Midlands, coming home on the train loads of City fans rioted, the train was stopped in the middle of nowhere and the Police came on board and escorted the train back to Coventry. Anybody remember that, and which game it was? There was a report in the Telegraph the next evening, and my Mum gave me a going over - I wasn’t involved, of course!

That Blackpool was a wet night. We lost to a lower league team, we were well supported, most City fans (including us) were behind the goal with no cover, and we also had some seats at the side which were under cover. The rain was horrendous, as was our performance, and the main entertainment was the continuous stream of City fans making a break from the open terrace to the covered stand, whilst stewards tried to stop them. Queue massive cheers when a runner got through, and boos when one of the hapless stewards managed to rugby tackle one of our fans making the break!

Funny - not worst! Years ago we went to Sheff Utd on a coach from Leamington (Tony Currie era? we won 1-0, Fergie scored). Not many City there at all, as a load of coaches had been bricked at an away game in Bolton? and the coach firm (Red House?) had refused to take the fans in protest (or some such reason). The coach driver dropped us off outside the ground and parked up next to a Church and told us to meet back there after the game. Got to coach and there were loads of Sheff Utd hanging around by the door, so me and some other bloke loitered in the vicinity without approaching, then made a dash for it when some police appeared. Everybody got on, but then bricks and stones started pouring over the Churchyard wall. The driver in a panic, kept stalling and couldn't put the coach in gear - everybody was bellowing at him to get moving, making him even more stressed. Did make me laugh seeing a bloke at the back place his sandwich between his head and the window, as an extra buffer (should that be buffet?) against the incoming debris. They were crap at aiming - not one broken window. The driver, to add insult to injury got in a further panic as a rumour went up about somebody following us with a gun in their car?!? and took a turn heading north out of Sheffield rather than south, so after a few miles in the wrong direction, we had to travel back through it. At least we won!
