When are you going to get excited? (1 Viewer)

I’m thinking Hamer because I think he could to play there if he’s willing to have the discipline to stick to that particular role. He could be a real outlet there if it clicked

Maybe, though he’s excellent pulling the strings from deep. Allen runs beyond so well and that’s needed in the box or the striker gets isolated.

He’d need to undo whatever’s happened to his willingness to shoot this season mind.

Yeah his reluctance to shoot is rather strange, as he’s got a good shot on him

I think we’ve got some of the most touches inside the opposition box in the league. Maybe we’re not shooting outside the box on instruction and Vik is a bit beneficiary of it.

I think most of us have followed City long enough and are reasonable enough not to let this amazing start go to our heads.

But has anyone else identified a point in the season where they think “If were still thereabouts after that I’m going to have trouble holding it together”?

For me it’s the six games between the November international break and Christmas. Obviously we could fall apart in the next six games, but if we come through the following and are still top six I’ll be getting very excited for this season:

Feels like the run just before Covid finished the season in L1 where I thought “this is where the wheels come off” and they didn’t.

Of course still half a season to go after that, but you don’t get much tougher blocks of six in this division IMO.

If we are in the mix January 1st ..then il start thinking we can do it realistically (playoff push that is )

When ? Sunday, May 29, 2022 at about 4:45pm if we're at least 2 goals clear :)

Until then, I'm going to be expecting the bubble to burst and will only relax each time our run continues ;)

I look at those 6 fixtures and honestly believe we can win at least 3 of them. If we were to come out of them we with 4 wins out of 6 then it’s a very real possibility that we can carry it on all season.

That was league 1.

I can only remember Yeovil and FGR when we were terrible and getting soaked at Newport.

Although just now remembered beating Swindon and Lincoln though.
Yep helps if I read fullybefore piling in lol :)

I thought this thread was about quotes my ex-girlfriend used to say at first glance

Genuinely around the end of February time. If this club has taught me something in the last 60 years is that despite being at the top half dozen around Christmas we historically have fell away second half of season. I can’t remember the amount of times I thought we would play in Europe the next season to see us in a relegation battle.
Robins has changed our after Christmas slump but we’ve been there in the recent past with Mowbray.

Once we get to 50pts. If we still in top 8 or so then time to get a little carried away.

Excited now to be honest. No reason to think we can’t carry on competing, especially as we just put played one of, if not the, best team in the division.

Our away form is the issue, but I trust MR to adapt and rectify, so if our home form continues and we tweak the away then why not.

The nucleus of the squad have stepped up and the majority are continuing to improve, so even if it doesn’t happen this year and we retain key players and add a few then next year will be another exciting one.

Either way, get excited now, performances are great (on the whole), the atmosphere is the best it’s been and the connection between fans, clubs and players is reminiscent of L2 and L1 promotion seasons.

it's not about the fixtures as results can go either way with any team we face. We are competitive and that's the crucial point. Probably as much as anyone in this league. It's more to do with momentum and building confidence in the squad. Injury free will be a factor to key players too. Normally people say 10 or 12 games in before making judgment calls. Think that is a bit early tbf. I think if we are still around about or in the playoffs come the turn of the year then yes, we have a good a chance as any others in that top 6.
I'm beginning to think like the last promotion, where we kept in there, the win column kept mounting, and suddenly you thought "oh wow" this is happening". That may well repeat itself if we are there at the turn of the year. See no reason why not, and have not seen a side better than us yet. Luton was an aberration not to be repeated. Yes....with players like Bright, Jones, Walker, Waghorn and Allen, Sheaf all battling for a start, I think the embers are smoldering at the moment, and hope the fire starts in January!

I'll get excited when we are mathematically guaranteed of play-offs. I still get nightmares over the Boothroyd and Mowbray seasons.

Don't forget Coleman's fuckery in 2010. In play-off contention up to March then went 11 games without a win in a spiral that convinced SISU to turn off the tap
