He said that he wanted to build a team from the ground up, start from the bottom up and get the basics right.....Well so far so good.

How refreshing is it to see us announcing signings instead of being linked to players for weeks before inevitabley signing for one of our Rivals ? How nice is it to see faces through the door instead of the usual "Missed out on targets", "will attempt business in January", "Budget restrictions meant that...."

For once it seems like we're trying to do the right thing, released a lot of dead wood and replacing them with players used to the division we're going in to, a few of which have won said league, which brings me on to my next point,

A winning mentality, something we've lacked for years, signing players that have previous experience of winning divisions, digging deep when it matters is fantastic. How many players have we signed so far that we're previous captains at their previous clubs ? 3, we've signed 3 leaders which is excellent.

Don't get me wrong I'm not getting giddy over a couple of signings but it certainly seems like we're doing things the right way for a change and for me atleast, that's a good thing.

All we need now is the Takeover to happen, is get our club back and start building towards a bright future.

Never dull as a City fan is it.

I've said it for a while now, but SISU have invested alot in higher leagues and got no-where.

I believe that they have been investing less the last couple of seasons and hoping to hit the reset button. Lets get back down to the bottom of the football league and start again.

They brought in Robins who wants to build and suddenly there's money for quality players. I know we're not paying transfer fees, but these guys must be on more than those kids that have been released?

I'm not condoning what they've done, but this could be their plan. They have a rep for turning around failing businesses albeit ruthlessly. Could this be the ship turning?

does it make sense to lose fanbase before "trying" to rebuild?

i think this is more them realising value drops big time if we become non league and also break even model will not work for long if results dont improve.

either way i am looking forward to first and only(because of promotion!)season in league 2

We've signed:
A keeper who couldn't get in a L2 promotion winning team,
The captain of a team relegated out of the football league,
A defender ignored by Northampton who conceded 5 more goals than we did last year and only survived relegaton from L1 by 4 points,
A striker who couldn't get in with two L1 promotion hopefuls - Bradford's team or Sheff U's squad.
A 35 yr old Michael Doyle.

No evidence there's money for quality signings there and it's not kids been released - Marcus Tudgay, Vladimir Gadzhev, Andy Rose, Ruben Lameiras, Nathan Clarke, Kevin Foley. Looks to me that this is nothing but Robins spending the money he's saved from those experienced and probably highest (relative to our squad) L1 earners. People are just giddy because for the first time for years we're showing glimmers of being managed properly and there's still time for that to even out - a few players sales, kids refusing contracts and folk will have soon forgotten that we signed 5 players in May when we're still short of another 10 in July and RCC is being pencilled in for left back.

For SISU to destroy a fanbase while not bothering to communicate your suggested plan would be mental of them..... which is the only thing that I can think of that might make it true :happy:
I truly hope SISU have seen the light and are supporting a manager who wants to do things properly and his way but with their previous it's going to take a lot more than a few L2 signings to convince me this leopard has changed its spots.

As opposed to last season's recruitment of "lining up ducks" which meant aimlessly shooting it seems and then after the actual ducks had been shot just going around picking up the half dead ones off the floor.

If we had made so many realistic signings last season I doubt we would have been relegated.

This isn't down to sisu throwing cases of cash at robins, the same as last season wasn't down to Mowbray apparently being tied up so he couldn't sign anybody but championship players with a l1 budget until the last minute

You won't find anyone more critical of last seasons transfer dealings than me, with the exception of perhaps @Earlsdon_Skyblue1 and we were both saying it at the time, not retrospectively. These signings are in positions we need and look like good L2 level pros but to suggest that 'suddenly there's money for quality players' is making a giant leap (3 of those signings have a year full of splinters in their arses from bench sitting) and to tenuously link that to a SISU change of heart is either naive or insanely hopeful.

Well I was replying to Rich's comments anyway! Mowbray had a plan but it was never to manage us as a L1 club. His plan was to rely on his reputation and contacts in the game to get in high level transfers and loans. It nearly worked the first year, 2nd time round was a disaster. Robins plan is to manage us properly for the level we are at. Really interested to see how Mowbray manages Blackburn as his career has some worrying patterns in it.

I would suggest your wrong.

Id be very surprised if players like McNulty are on more than players likes Marcus Tudgay was.

As for hitting the "reset" button. Weren't we told Joy was hurting when we were relegated ?

Yeah, the negative ;) way of looking at the signings is we're signing pensioners, or lower league reserves.

tbf I'd assume Tudguy had taken a big pay cut on his last contract - doubt he expected to be a first team regular!

Agree with the general point though. The signings we've made are sensible for our level, but hardly proven, bar the veteran.

yes. Sensible but like all signings, a gamble. Hopefully majority of them pay off

Also won't be shocked when Willis & co. all bog off later, too.

Let's see how good the squad looks come opening day. It's a promising start because he's identified the type of player he wants, and is actually signing them.

Squad coud still be wafer thin if nobody re-signs, and we flog a couple of the others...

I think this shows the difference between a motivated manager (Robins) and a manager who had lost confidence in the club's hierarchy (Mowbray).

I am not sure what Mowbrays plans were last season but to get rid of some of the players we had and bring in seemingly inferior players and keep the likes of Tudgay was laughable!
Robins has come in and seen what players were 'lilly livered chickens' and shipped them out pronto, he has had to get players in quickly with the threats of existing players stalling on contracts and obviously we are not in the know at present as to who will re sign and who won't. Its definitely what we needed and fair play to Shitsu wankers seemingly letting him do just that, next season could be a total disaster or it could be brilliantly exciting but however it will pan out he has boosted the fans optimism and relit a few fires in our souls to generate interest in our sorry club again for the time being lets just hope we can support the team the same as the last few games at home because in all my years supporting from Wembley onwards our fans have been fantastic and created an amazing atmosphere PUSB

The one thing that fills me with confidence has been the supporters from where the players have come from. Not one of them has said a player is shit. That has been the norm for years. And they have normally been right.

Am I missing something regarding our existing players? Apart from (the very real) danger of sisu taking offers for certain players and selling, like Willis harries etc is it not just 2 players that have clauses in contracts allowing them to walk from the club? Beavon and turnbull?

From the under contract players yes, but the following are free to leave if they do not signed the newly offered deals:

Lee Burge
Chris Stokes
George Thomas
Ryan Haynes
Gael Bigirimana
Dion Kelly-Evans
Devon Kelly-Evans

and Nathan Clarke, Kevin Foley, Vladimir Gadzhev, Andy Rose, Ruben Lameiras and Marcus Tudgay have already left, having not been offered contracts.

The confidence new signings can bring before they have even played. Well lets wait and see how they performs. He has got in early so it suggests he is signing the ones he wants. Still a lot of building to do and then they have to bond as a team. Fingers crossed.
