When Will Our Season Come? (1 Viewer)

I cant think of another club/set of fans that deserve's a season of luck in the Championship (Even the Football League for that matter) than Coventry City. When will we get a star signing that will not stab us in the back after one season *cough* Marlon King *cough* When will we get the multi million pound investors. When will we be promoted to the Premier League.

I'm thinking 1987 was our last great year. 1998 was good.....so working to that rule......ok no idea. Maybe 2050

No club can expect or deserve a star signing or multi-million pound investors.

We have to accept what we are: a struggling club in the Championship, currently punching above our weight.

The chances are that we are just returning from where we came from: the old Third Division.

No tommy, we are bigger than that. We just have dodgy owners who want and will stop at nothing to get there investment back. We may well go down but we would get back because we are a bigger club than the old 3rd division.

I am not convinced.

I said in 2001 that we would not get back to the Premiership in a generation - 25 years. I also said in 2007, that I expected relegation within 5 years.

I remain utterly convinced that the damage caused by Robinson and Richardson has had a lastiing effect and that we remain a club in decline.

It may well be that we end up like Northampton: recalling a bygone era in the top flight with nostalgia. Albeit that our proud record - 67-01 - was considerably longer than the Cobblers.

I completely agree that Robinson and Richardson have caused almost irreparable damage. SISU must also take a chunk of the blame for the mess we find ourselves in, we must be the only club in world football who have been taken over and received no investment.

Why?

SISU have a lot to answer for but they invested in the club when no one else would.

They have failed but they invested. The problem was that their "investment" was insufficient to repair the damage. More importantly, their commitment to football was not sufficient in the mid- to long-term

Tommy, believe me, they've invested next to nothing. Yes they took on the debt but that's still showing in their balance sheet as an existing debt all they've done is service that debt through selling prozone, mortgaging ryton and selling players.

So they took on the debt when no one else would?

Thus saving us from administration and the threat of liquidation.

As I said elsewhere, all SISU did was delay the day of reckoning for the incompetence of the previous regime.

Objectively, SISU have done nothing wrong - notwithstanding some silly posturing with the fans on the PR front

I think this is our year. Our year to go down as according to the radio it's the first time we've lost our opening game since our last relegation season :(

Yeah, I saw a load of hype about that one particular stat, and worked out that the last time we lost our opening game was in August 2000...

Usually when something positive about Coventry is brought up in match previews, it's gonna be trashed.

As for those people claiming that we'd be too big for League One (as it's now known), Charlton Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham Athletic, Swindon Town and Bradford City all say hello- all clubs which had once been around the top two divisions, now to varying extents marooned!

It could easily happen to us...

League One is very clearly a possibility for Cov. Should that happen, I can see us dropping into League Two very quickly, especially if administration happens during this period.

Charlton wanted Curbishley out because he had taken them as far as they could go, Wednesday thought they were too big and went into admin never recovered, some idiot at Bradford paid Carbone and others £40k per week , Swindon had financial irregularities having cheated and Oldham signed Lee Hughes.

I agree though that it could happen and we would languish like those mentioned as that is our style rather than return from those depths like others have done (Southampton, West Brom, Wolves, Leicester, Forest, Man City, Birmingham, Stoke and many more examples in recent seasons)

They took the debt on Tommy but they keep publicly spouting that they've invested £30m. They haven't, they've just taken on that debt and serviced it's payments through 1) selling players,2) reducing overheads,3) mortgaging our one remaining fixed asset - ryton 4) selling prozone. That is not investing, yes they saved us, no they haven't invested.

indeed, anyone that thinks dropping to league 1 would be a good idea and an easy ride is almost certainly mistaken

Luck? Let's talk about mismanagement on a grand scale by the likes of Richardson, Robinson and Mr. McGooity!

Been too many wrong choices behind the scenes to consider luck. Don't think we have hardly been at all unlucky to be honest. In fact, you could suggest quite the opposite, some seasons we have been lucky we haven't gone down.

Last season I would accept we were very unlucky with injuries, but that's about it. Would say this will probably be the year to bring out your lucky heather and rabbit foot, though I am talking in terms of injuries and suspensions rather than results and points. We desperately need luck to have a year of an almost miracle proportions in terms of having our tiny squad stay wrapped in cotton wool and avoid major injuries and stay suspension free.

Not started too well though has it. Only one game in and we've lost a player for 3 matches.
