So many other teams can do well with a lesser size squad than we have. It comes down to motivation and belief. Do you think when sp consistently plays a formation that clearly doesn't work that the players will keep believing. No they will also question it, heads will drop and with the current personnel we have we do not have a bully or a leader on the pitch to influence the game and players. So my blame lies with the recruitment, management and owners. We are on the ropes as a whole and i do not see how we can fight our way out it.

This must be our weakest and cheapest team EVER.
Considering we are supposed to be one of the big hitters in this league????

Who ever said that was and is talking utter shit.
Oh and then theirs is the ones who even believe it :laugh:

We only have a big squad because all our youth players are included in it. Take them all out and our squad must be the smallest.
As for formation I don't believe these players are good enough to play any formation. Can't score can't defend and can't pass the ball, Oh and don't get me on to goalkeepers......
Easy not good enough castaways freebees loans if they were any good they would be at there own club.

Totally agree. Had this conversation today and the conclusion was in a good squad you may bring up a couple from the youth squad.

Sadly we are trying the opposite formula which unsurprisingly has us sitting nearly at Rock bottom.

No-one mentioned masterpiece, but are you telling me we couldn't afford to sign any physical players?

That part of the equation has very little to do with hands being tied. This is an avenue that SP himself decided to take us down by choice.

SP & SW meet to discuss budget for forthcoming season.
SP gives SW wish list.
SW laughs and rips it up.

Yep, sp was that hard done by he signed a new contract

And that's part of the scam. He's another fall guy, paid to suck it up and keep on looking like he still believes he can turn it round. That's his job. He isn't there to win the league or compete every Saturday but patronisingly go through the motions and keep a lid on it. Nothing more.

To be fair there are only probably about 6 posters on here who do not put the majority of the blame at the feet of our owner. One of the six possibly has a dual accounts. ( Just a conspiracy theory from myself, not fact, ) That poster is incredibly vocal
The others like to play devils advocate. Most know the decisions by the owners over the last 6 years have been shocking. As they have prior to that.

The managers fault is probably that he knew what he was coming into eyes wide open. From this position he confidently said after playing MK Dons that we witness two play off contenders.
So IMO SISU are to blame for us been in division three and with an average team.
SP is to blame for telling SISU that he can still get promotion, by releasing all our higher earners and replacing with them with pound shop alternatives

The wage bill is still in the top 10 in the league. And look at Doncaster a couple of seasons ago won the league having on paid for 2 players, billy Paynter and lee fowler (undisclosed on a 6 month deal in jan - played 4 games then left on loan in feb)

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–13_Doncaster_Rovers_F.C._season

Yeovil got promoted the same season with a wage bill of c£800k. It can be done you just need to get your recruitment right. And sp has failed on this front.

No, we're the only team in this league that signs players on frees! Pressley has nothing to work with! /s

The current form is totally 100% down to the manager and staff..... We all no the owners have a large part to play in the current situation, but they don't manage the team.... They don't put the players through training sessions that get them injured (something that should never happen).....

trouble is Pressley is a great talker he gets u listening and excited with what he wants, but his man management skills are probably no where near as good as he makes out them to be.... (Bomb squad, baker etc) and this also applies to his stubbornness wen it comes to tactics and maintains the 352 when clearly it's not working.

so what do we do next?? On paper we brought ok to well in the summer minus a hard man in the midfield and a gk.... So why is Pressley making 4-5 changes every games! A settled team gets u places I still don't think he knows his best 11....

i want to like Pressley I want to believe his preaching, but for the last 10 months I have believed he's just another stop gap.... Maybe that's what we have now until all the other rubbish is sorted.

On the other hand Waggot could get him the money for 2 more players, but if Pressley hasn't asked he won't get.... Remember he said he didn't want to use the loan market this yr...... Gone from one extreme to another, middle ground is how he should be not the extreme.

We loose on sat to Peterbrough we could be bottom, if we are then SP will have had his last chance and the new search for the poisoned challis will begin....

So, SW told SP he could only bring in players under a certain height and weight?

Okay.

While signing a new contract to really show his disgust.

Yes, indeed.

I have a lot of sympathy for Pressley, but he has chosen to play a certain way and brought in players according to that system. He says he wanted to play a free flowing football style on the ground and that is why he has brought in the likes of Swanson and O'Brien and Coulibaly and Miller and Jackson and Tudgay and not plumped for more physical players.

He chose the players within the budget he was given. To suggest that anyone else told him what sort of player he had to buy is a complete nonsense.

And that is why I now have very little sympathy with the line he is coming out with of his teams being bullied and outmuscled all of a sudden.

We have a couple of physical players here, but nowhere even close to the minimum we require.

If our manager truly has his hands tied so much and is completely blameless because of bad owners, it'd make sense just to let him go and stop paying him because nobody could do any better anyway so why spend at all? Have an inanimate carbon rod on the bench and I've shoehorned in a Simpsons reference so that's Thursday checked off

Yes indeed. Or follow Have I got News For You's lead and have a tub of lard in the mnager's dugout.

What is Andy Thorn doing these days anyway? :thinking about:

Of course, you're right but I wonder if you agree that he probably didn't want to have to replace the likes of Moussa, Murphy or Wilson at all.

Course, you could blame him for that too, but that wouldn't be right, would it?

His decision to not sign a central midfielder is one of his worse since being appointed. It's up there with playing Seaborne, Willis, Clarke at LB ahead of Adams, playing Adams at LM and playing Jordan Clarke at striker.

That's football unfortunately, all teams have to deal with the same problem. He had a budget capable of putting together a better squad than what we are seeing at the moment.

Of course he didn't want to sell Moussa and Wilson. I don't blame him for that at all.

As I have said several times across a number of posts, I do have a lot of sympathy for Pressley, but he is now saying himself that we lack physical attributes to our game and are being outmuscled at times. I don't blame him at all for the players he has lost, but he should have addressed this deficiency in our make up pre season.

We have now been in this division more than long enough to know there are a number of physical teams and you have to try and compete with that.

I have sympathy with Pressley, but not on this issue. Not on the issue of our team being too lightweight and especially so in the engine room of the midfield. To allow the likes of Fleck to do his stuff you need a ball winner alongside him.

SP now has to address this issue as a matter of urgency.

Moussa and murphy were free agents and left as they had better offers not that this has translated to success on the pitch for them.

Wilson was sold for a transfer fee which is impossible to refuse .

It's the life of football. Your arguments even by your hopeless standards sound weak.

As has been said - players make a manager. Perhaps without Wilson, Moussa etc. he's just been found out.?

Wilson clearly not. Have my doubts about Moussa though. he kept banging on about certain players not working for the team, and Moussa seemed a prime candidate to be who he was referring to.

Interesting that moussa has only started 1 league game for charlton, deemed only good enough for the bench. There were a fair few on here stating that he would walk into a top 6 team. Obviously not the case

"Who Is To Blame?"

Reda Johnson for getting sent off. That was the start of the slump. Who knows where we would be now if that had not happened.

I still don't think he knows his best 11 ...

I think that is part of the problem. We don't have a best 11. They are pretty much all equally bad. It's a case of someone plays well (which for CCFC means no glaring mistakes) so they keep their place otherwise there is a reshuffle in the hope that someone else cannot be as bad as a player being dropped. Seems like we pretty much always have several first-choice players injured which necessitates more shuffling.
