Enough with the Richard Shaw bashing, you do it constantly and it makes you look like either a Leicester fan or, more simply, just a completely unappreciative prick. Shaw was one of the best man-markers in British football in his day. There was a programme on R5 about Fergies anniversary at Man U. They got onto the Cantona kick. Then-Palace gaffer Alan Smith was interviewed about the events. He spoke about how they had employed Shawsy as a man-marker, and he never gave Cantona a sniff. It was driving Cantona mental, and Smith says it was very much the frustration at not being able to shake him off being behind the blown fuse. I remember that from the game, although it was his time before we signed him. Check out the video and the posters for the kick-Shaw is right next to him even then! It reminded me of the time Gazza broke his arm on Mcgrath when he lashed-out at Lloyd after a similarly "superglue" type man-marking job.
So, to get this straight, you think a man who marked Cantona at the peak of his prowess out of a game was a "liability". You, sir, are the liability.
He was also an unswervingly loyal servant to our club-and Palace-, Mr Consistent and incredibly versatile. Please pick a better target for your derision in future-your Carsley-bashing this summer was similarly nauseating.
Hmm, tell me what the club achieved with the great Carsley playing for us?? Relegation from the Prem, and a 19th? Placed finish last season. A complete success I must say.
As for Richard Shaw and his mythical "man-marking expertise", he was man marking Serbian flop Savo Milosevic when he scored 5 of his 9 goals for Villa one season.
And the Cantona sending off had Ferguson recall in his book of the season 94/95 "I asked Eric why he was letting players like Shaw get to him? He is nothing, he shouldn't be on the same pitch as you" or words to that effect. However, I'm willing to take the word of the managerial success that is Alan Smith over that Ferguson chap any day of the week. I mean, whatever did happen to Ferguson? Meanwhile Smith has since been Knighted and is pursued by all the worlds top clubs for his managerial expertise. So to get this straight, you are highlighting the words of Alan Smith over Alex Ferguson to attempt to prove a point? You my friend are an idiot.
As for Mr Loyalty Shaw, can you name a side that ever tried to sign him? Me neither. Amazing how loyal a player can be when nobody else wants him.
And there you have the reason why CCFC are in the position we are, you accept shit, you get shit.
