Why Collins? (19 Viewers)

Was Wilson really that bad. He made some incredible saves but like everyone of our keepers was prone to the odd mistake. Golden glove winner and I don't buy it was all down to the defence.
Collins is a liability and was part of the Barnsley side along with Kitchen who got relegated.
Dovin has done nothing wrong really but looks like a kid who is playing his first game and lacking experience.
I personally hope Frank puts Wilson back in and he sticks with him because hes the best we have at the moment

Franks interview the other day was quite telling they way he was saying Ben is a character and voice etc. Expect he’s in when fit.

Wilson had a battling defence that shielded him that season. Currently we don’t have that. But if I had to pick out of wilson and Collins then it’s a no brainer.

Wilson would be fine as number 2 until the summer but we really need to stick with Dovin as number 1.

I am beginning to think, "Why Collins" is actually his real name and the Brad bit is just a nickname.

Wilson is obviously Fwanks first choice, he's been bigging him up because of his 'character'. Collins was just a stop gap until Wilson was fit again.
I saw the press conference and was suprised how much he was praising Ben. I get he is a big personality and helpful person from a morale perspective, however, based on his proven goalkeeping inability, is not the answer.

Maybe it's because the thought of Big Ben, makes him feel all warm and nostalgic for his boyhood home of London.

The trouble is Lampard doesn't really know the ability of the players until he tries them out.
He's in for a surprise with our keepers.

Simon Moore was brilliant initially and seemed a great bloke as well.

It made it all the more disappointing when he seemed to suffer the goalkeeping equivalent of the yips. Glad he’s back playing now and wish him all the best but we needed a new keeper when his form suffered.

I stand by what I’ve said about Dovin, I don’t think he has made a serious error yet.

A friend of mine works in goalkeeping circles and he said he’s one of the most highly-rated young keepers in Europe. Let’s give him a chance even if he comes in and makes a mistake because none of the others are the future.

Quick someone drive Collins to Barnsley with a pen before they see the highlights from yesterday

Agree with the above. Dovin is highly thought of so get him in and deal with the growing pains.

United did the same with De Gea when they signed him and reaped the benefits.

I personally don't think there's much between Dovin and Wilson, Wilson probably edges it currently... But Dovin is the one who's going to improve.

Poor lad is probably wondering why he joined to air on the bench behind old poppadoms arms

Wasn’t it shown on here that Wilson statistically faced far less shots that season, proving that it was actually largely down to the defence?

There is certainly an argument to be had for him organising the defence though.

No that is not true.

Wilson faced an average of 3.28 shots on target per game that season. This season we average 3.43 so it's a negligible difference - 7 shots over a whole season.

The average post shot expected goal value of Wilson's shots on target faced was 0.29 and for Collins this year it's 0.32 so again, negligible.

Wilson had averaged 0.11 post shot expected goals saved per game, which put him 6th in the division for that season. The notion that he had a rubbish season and was protected by a good defence is nonsense and used by some because for some reason they are unable to admit or accept that Wilson had a good season (regardless of how bad we had before or since.)

Collins is currently on -0.66 post shot goals per game and that doesn't even include yesterday, so it's going to get a lot worse. That of course puts him dead last by a country mile.

Over a season that +0.11 to -0.66 difference is the equivalent of 35 goals 😳😳

That’s fair mate. Good numbers, I like and cannot disagree.

at least he could come out and catch the feckin ball unlike our prize chimp who's in goal atm,
That's why he lost his place; he came for balls against Sunderland, Millwall, etc., got nowhere near and cost us goals. He seemed to lose his ability to judge when to come and when to stay.

Seen a few on Twitter say we should not have let go of Moore. Jesus fucking Christ…short memories. Was terrible start of play off season and equally terrible when he came back v Wrexham.

He is however, still better than Collins.

Will proudly say we really should not have got rid of Simon Moore. A far better number one than any of the current crop. Look how fast we got shot of him after few mistakes, compared to how many chances this lot have had, bar Dovin. How Wilson and Collins are still here and involved is well beyond me.

He was well protected, but was also pretty much faultless for the latter part of that season.

You don't keep all those clean sheets if you're not doing something right.

Yes surprisingly it is possible to have a good defence and a good keeper.

We have neither at the moment!

I can’t really remember Moore that well for us, but remember he seemed confident and came for crosses more than anyone else we’ve had in recent years.

Pretty sure he (Moore) had made a couple of errors and then was out of the team? When you think about Collins so far, it’s pretty mad that he’s got another chance really. There’s no doubt
To be fair, Moore lost it totally for whatever reason, the game at Hull where he basically threw them the game. He had to be dropped, and I guess Wilson in possession did well enough to retain the jersey. Think Moore had gone.

His Defensive errors though usually result in a goal for the opposition.

Yes the stats don't show things like positioning or ball watching etc where Bidwell is obviously much better.

They've both been poor this season though and left back should be a priority for FL.

He was also woeful getting beat at the far post from our right hand side. The number of goals we let in from a shot across the goal to the far post and Moore never got to one of them was terrible. It was like he didnt know where his goal posts were

Like you say, Collins is by far statistically the worst goalkeeper in the league. Why continue to play the worst goalkeeper in the league? All I have is questions right now, the situation is baffling. I can only assume Lampard is trying to tank the club.

I imagine he was playing him in the hope that he’d find form. Seems like the opposite has happened.

Although Collins wasn’t solely to blame for the goals, I would be quite surprised if he plays the next game. Lampard did drop Lati after his mistake.

Yes Lampard mentioned individual mistakes in his post match interview yesterday so I presume Collins and Dasilva will be dropped. Hopefully Binks too.

Collins is currently averaging -0.79 PSxG +/- per 90.

What that means in simple terms is for every 90 minutes he plays, he's letting in 0.79 more goals than you would expect an average keeper to.

He is currently bottom of this statistic in the league for keepers playing regularly by a huge margin - the next worst is Angus Gunn at -0.34.

Continuing to play him is actively sabotaging our chances of winning football matches.

To be honest, I'm not sure why Dovin hasn't been put back in before. He was absent at Sunderland due to a knock, but I've been surprised he's not reclaimed his place since considering how many goals we've conceded, not all his fault, of course.

Dovin hasn't been given a proper crack at the first team and has been in and out. When he has played I think he has been pretty good.

Is there time to get an injunction to ban Collins from being within a mile of the CBS? On the grounds that he’s a danger to CCFCs continued status as a Championship club. 😉
