Well what you're saying is all well and good, but for large parts of last season we were operating with two 18 year olds and one 17 year old in the starting line up. Are they as physically fit as a 25 year old senior pro, absolutely not. This wasn't Thorn's fault, it was through having no investment whatsoever, apart from from signing two goalkeepers. We lost games from winning positions because the players didn't believe they would win, we were a poor side in that division, favourites for relegation with the bookies before a ball was kicked. You lose a few games, you develop a losing mentality, and that's what happened. When we were winning, the players were nervous. You could argue Thorn has to manage that and try to give the players more belief, but I would suggest that most managers would have struggled.
I don't know if Thorn would've been any good this year, but I certainly don't believe he had a fair crack at it, so why didn't something happen before pre-season.
Anyone think if malagas goal wasn't disallowed against shef u that thorn would still be in a job? Right or wrong over 3 games it feels like fine margins
No question....... Or wood didn't have a moment of madness.
I genuinely believe if bury we re two nil up and we came back to draw two all he would still be in a job.
Knee jerk without a doubt.
5 days before the window shuts and the new man is lumbered with Thorns signings ?I really don't see how a manger who's had 16 months of bad results can be the victim of a knee jerk sacking.
Early in the season yes, but what's the point in waiting 15 games if you're then going to sack him anyway? Just get a new man in with plenty of time to achieve the objectives.
Come on Sutty that is a weak argument ,you cant change a game without the players to do it .The bench last season at times was conference class at bestBut that's not what happened.
How often did we come from behind to get a result under Thorn? And how often did we throw away results from winning positions?
We can blame players being too young, then a thin squad getting tired, then a new squad needing to gel. Eventually you have to look for the common factor.

Timing is just wrong for me

OK ,so would another manager last season have kept us up ? And if so, who ?I don't think it is a weak argument. The same problems appeared again and again and continued to do so even without a team full of youngsters.
My point is "if" Thorn was so bad why was he allowed the summer to bring in his players , why not get a new man to get his players .Otherwise it is a case of same old, same oldSame could be said if we sacked him in October. Don't understand the point.

Yes they have been decisive but the new man comes in with anothers players ,AGAIN ! We have done it all to often then the new man gets slatedMourinho for one.
There were obviously financial constraints but that doesn't mean you can't judge the manager at all. You can give him some leeway, which I did, but there comes a point where the same mistakes being repeated consistently has to be noticed.
As for your other point, I think they wanted to make sure they were absolutely 100% before pulling the trigger. The first three games have shown exactly the same traits as before. I'm glad they've been decisive, rather than dither as we potentially slip further away from the top 6.

How many times has that happened with us ? who cares about anyone else ?There are plenty of examples of managers who've come in and done well with another manager's set of players. We'll just have to hope that's what happens to us.
And a great argument , unfortunately Thorn took over his squadThe last manager we employed who started his reign by building his own squad was Boothroyd.
I rest my case.
Who cares if other fans are taking the piss? We're Coventry fans, surely all these years have given us thicker skins??
I didn't want him to go just yet, but there were really 2 choices here. Back him long term or act early. If there were off field issues then that changes everything and of course club right to sack him.
Then of course there are the 'I told you so' brigade. They didn't know any of this either and in a way got lucky. Will a change in manager work out better? Who knows??
