The promise of a pro deal doesn't stop the bigger Club's coming in for the promising youngsters and rarely offers any security.

Harvey Elliott at Fulham as an example is about to leave Fulham and sign for Liverpool, Liverpool will have to pay a compensation package for a 16 year old who has featured in the EPL, but Fulham are at a bit of a loss.

Fulham can't tie the kid down to a long term deal because of his age and if the player rejects any scholarship deal offered to him he can move clubs at will, I imagine Liverpool will pay no more £1.5m for the lad, which isn't very much.

Correct. The FA are looking into Jaydon Sancho's switch to Man City from Watford, as the parents were allegedly given money prior to Sancho's switch to Man City.

That said Sancho lived away from home at Watford, Watford paid for his schooling (in which he lived in).

The FA are always looking at this from what the media suggests, it's something very difficult to stomp out.

Young players are always going to be attracted to the bigger Clubs, using the Elliott example from before, if I was the player and I was told that I could sign for PSG, Real Madrid and Liverpool if I rejected a deal at Fulham I would question my desire to remain at Fulham.

The positive that City have right now with the likes of Bapaga, is that players can see a pathway to first team football if they work hard and remain committed to CCFC, but it's not always enough, McCann and Sambou are two instances where we have tried to keep hold of these players, but the desire to play for the bigger clubs is too much to keep them at CCFC.

Let's not forget that every player we currently have wouldn't be at the club if we were non league for example. So it works both ways.
90% of them probably wouldn't be here if we were still in league 2.

At the time Watford were not in the elite in terms of youth programmes as they were not in the Prem, so could not prevent Man City taking him. This is according to one of the management team in the Watford youth set up. That is the situation we are in I assume.

We signed Johnny N'gandu when he turned 17 with a year left on his scholarship. I imagine that's our intention with this lad too, but who's to say if a bigger club might make him a better offer? Charlie McCann moved to Man U before he'd even got to full scholarship stage (I think he's the same age group as Bapaga and would've been one of this year's group).

One thing that works in our favour is we have a decent record of bringing players through so they might be more tempted to hang around a bit longer before jumping ship looking for the prestige and £££.

"Bapaga had a brilliant pre-season with us and found himself in the first team but physically he is not a man, we know that," said Viveash.

"He is an outstanding talent and we have to make sure that we keep putting him in situations where the stronger [first-team] players can play their part in his development by toughening him up.

"He will only toughen up by getting hit by Dabo in training and over a period of time that will help to get him more aware of space and more aware of where the pressure comes from.

Sky Blues attacker, Will Bapaga has agreed his first professional contract with the club

Will, who has risen through the ranks at the Sky Blues Academy has agreed a first professional deal following the turn of his 17th birthday last weekend.

Bapaga has agreed a deal with the Sky Blues which will run until June 2022.

The 17 year-old made his debut for the club at 16 earlier this season when he came off of the bench against Bolton Wanderers back in August.

Since then, Bapaga has gone on to make a further two appearances, including a first start for the club in the Leasing.com Trophy draw against Forest Green Rovers.

Speaking about agreeing a new deal, Will had this to say:

“I’m delighted to sign the new deal; I feel privileged and honoured the club have offered me a deal so early.

“I don’t feel more relaxed though now I’ve signed the deal, I still have a point to prove to the Gaffer and everyone here."
