Wont apply to the lower league clubs with smaller squads on shitter pitches.

Its been a long time coming to be honest. I can see the positives in this and take the excuses from the national team and champions league teams however if they go on West Brom 'esque' team outings then its hardly going to benefit anyone.
I think its all about timing linked with CL games equally, during this time the FA cup will take a further back seat, league cup finished but again another step away by the prem against us mere mortals. I don't think a break would work in Championship and below given the volume of games as we play virtually twice a week already.

Hardly any English players in the top clubs anyway and those that are in the international squad are mostly makeweights in the prem. Funnily enough no one is claiming that the lack of a winter break in England is harming the French chances of winning the World Cup

This is good news as the teams down in the lower leagues will get more publicity and TV games, one of the best things about being in the lower leagues is we don’t stop for pointless international games.

They should have said the teams can go off warm weather training but any games that are not behind closed doors should incur a twelve point deduction

Given the fantastic or at least very creditable performances by Spurs, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal (first leg only!), Chelsea and, to a much lesser extent Man U, it would seem that the English clubs playing in Europe are not in need of a winter break. On a nation-by-nation basis, England seems to have the strongest set of clubs in Europe this season.

Totally ridiculous, and obviously totally so they can play abroad for exhibition matches.

The winter is so variable in this country. You could have a lot of January with bad snow so all matches cancelled, then the weather imptroves in Feb. But they have the winter break.

I imagine this is engineered to help the national team, so I'm all for it. Many 'experts' have called for it, and it's no coincidence that with the demands of the Prem, CL and two domestic cups, it's no surprise our national team has looked lacklustre and tired going into major international cup competitions. It also keeps the traditional Christmas period intact, so I guess it gives everyone something, fans, clubs and players alike.

Unlike the other leagues on the continent, our Football League is larger, with more teams (24 compared to 18-22 typical) in our leagues. From a brief look, I think our top 'non-league' league is a national league, whereas it's continental equivalents are regional. It would appear we have far more teams and leagues than other European countries. Hence, with more teams in more leagues, introducing a winter break is likely more difficult.

Never understood why playing 360 minutes extra over the course of 9 months meant players were exhausted.

I'd also return to the time of unlimited replays. If you're not good enough to win the game, you deserve the 'punishment' of having to play again.

More like to get exhausted with the extra travel time to USA or Far East for exhibition matches, plus the playing time, plus hospitality/selling shirts etc.
Why let the inconvenience of a replay get in the way of the real football business of the 21st Century Premier League...making money

Never got the argument about needing a Winter Break helping the national team. Every recent world cup/ euro winning team will have had a good smattering of players from our leagues, but for some unknown reason that doesn't seem to adversely affect them come tournament time. The reality is that the Prem teams will have agreed to this so they can take their players to the sun for money making exhibition games. I think it highly unlikely that players will be given a fortnight off to go away and do their own thing.

But wouldn’t that be a great idea, in general international teams don’t get together enough.
In addition it would be nice for a lot more live tv in the lower leagues and prem fans visiting to pass some money down the tree

I’d also agree with that, but more importantly, they actually need to start for clubs in the Prem too.

Another problem is the TV money clubs get inflats the prices of English players. Take our very own Maddison and Wilson, both Norwich and Bournemouth want £30m for them. Maddison is yet to play a premiership game, and Wilson has had about 3 serious injuries? As much as I like both of them, it is above market value. Naturally, managers would look elsewhere.

I'm surrounded by them at work. They think their knowledge of the game is superior because they 'support' a PL team from hundreds of miles away...I've heard one of them put on a fake northern accent when chanting down the pub. Weird dabbing wankers.
