I’ve watched a few games now (and enjoyed them) and have to say that they’ve embarrassed the men on one point. A) they don’t go down as easy as the men (no pun intended) and B) when they do go down (again no pun) they don’t go down like they’ve been shot by the second gunman on the grassy knoll, unlike the men. They’ve highlighted the embarrassing play acting that’s now rife in the men’s game and for that reason alone it’s been enjoyable.
Could have but wouldn't. VAR only to be used for:
On-Field Review (for interpretation)
Goals
Penalty Decisions
- foul committed by attacking player
- offside interference
All direct red card incidents
- foul leading up to penalty
- foul by attacking player
VAR at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019
No idea how you haven’t got this. The spitting incident (like the tackle on Houghton) could have been deemed a red card, therefore *CAN* have VAR used for them.

Good job the 'skineads' boot is in the way !The man in the blue FIFA bib?
Another stupid decision for a penalty in the Japan, Netherlands game.
If that is the new rule, the rule is an ass.
The Japanese player is clearly trying to move her arm away from the ball, so clearly accidental.
I know there is a new rule in place, but surely we can't just forget the accidental/deliberate element in all this.
If this is the way it is going, players are clearly going to just try and aim for arms and there will be shed load of penalties and lots of delays as they try and sort it out.
The overriding factor should be deliberate handball and THEN whether the player was deliberately trying to gain an advantage by making their body bigger.
The Japanese player did neither.
It's going to be a very harsh and cruel rule, this, I think.
Yup and for Japan to lose that game and be knocked out on the back of that decision is just incredibly harsh.I've said this a few times now but with the accidental/deliberate thing it can be so open to opinion. There are loads of penalties given even before VAR which I felt were not deliberate but were given. And even then what if its not deliberate but stops a clear chance/goal? Surely that deserves some kind of 'reward'? And 'unnatural position' - there seem to be plenty of refs (and pundits) who don't seem to understand that arms fly out as a natural balancing mechanism. With VAR and the time this stuff takes it's going to get ludicrous. The system is used so badly compared to other sports you start to wonder if those in charge are just luddites determined to see it fail.
I agree with you that we may end up with people aiming at people's hands, and with VAR slowing stuff down handballs can appear far more deliberate than they actually are.so as I've said before do away with the deliberate/accidental nonsense and just have all handballs are an indirect free-kick, even in the area, with sendings off for blatant handballs stopping goals/chances.
“It's a widely accepted shame that there is not one openly gay footballer in the Premier League.”
Hardly, I can see how that would be a much bigger problem for someone in an all-male team compared to someone in an all-female team.“It's a widely accepted shame that there is not one openly gay footballer in the Premier League.”
Because all women are wannabe lesbians?Hardly, I can see how that would be a much bigger problem for someone in an all-male team compared to someone in an all-female team.
And if they are crap, only then call them a lesbian.Just to expand, I posted that link because there is clearly an agenda of "Women's football is equal/better in quality and if you disagree, you're just a sexist pig!"
It just simply isn't the same or better.
Also, the fact they push that "openly gay" section in that article further pushes the agenda of everyone must be LBGT+ or they're homophobic. Personally, I don't care what someone is, I would judge them on how good they are at playing football.
And if they are crap, only then call them a lesbian.
He's never even been to LesbiaImagine Burge's confusion when he gets called a lesbian.
A 15-year old boy could probably also beat Serena Williams at tennis, but that does not mean that there is no interest in women's tennis or that women's tennis is somehow inferior. One massive way this isn’t the case...
Australian women's national team lose 7-0 to team of 15-year-old boys
For context, Australia were one of the favourites going into the Olympics.

Men play against men and women play against women.
I find both equally entertaining and of equal value.
Just lately I've been enjoying women's football far more than men's.
But imagine how many mistakes would have been made without the help of VAR.I am enjoying the women's world cup.
It's only the stupid application of VAR that is annoying me.
Isn't cricket already bloody slow enough? But imagine how many mistakes would have been made without the help of VAR.
I agree its application needs refinement, but on the whole I think it leads to fairer results.
Maybe they could copy the review system in cricket, where you only get so many reviews.
Not stupid just pedanticI am enjoying the women's world cup.

I am not excited as I would be for the men (ooh err, missus), but I am still looking forwards to it.watching the game tonight, Come on England. Hopefully quality improves as tournament progresses in latter stages.
