Boothroyd says Wood is not for sale

Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has moved to quell speculation that one of the players who might be leaving the club is Richard Wood.

Yesterday, reports suggested that Gary Speed at Sheffield United was interested in taking the defender back to Sheffield, but Boothroyd has insisted that will not happen.

Boothroyd insisted, “I haven’t had an enquiry but Richard Wood wouldn’t be for sale, definitely not. He’s a terrific player and I’m certainly not looking to get rid of him.”

The City boss also said that James McPake was part of his long term plans at Coventry, even though he didn't even make the bench for last Saturday's home game against Derby.

“It’s a difficult one because professional footballers want to play and you can only keep so many players who are out of the team happy,” said Boothroyd. “I can understand that, but all I can do is be perfectly honest with them."

“James McPake has probably been the most unfortunate out of all of them because he was arguably the best player towards the end of last season. Because he was a little behind in pre-season, Nathan Cameron came in and grabbed his opportunity and he’s done really well, as has Ben Turner."

“James will get his chance, it’s just a question of being patient, biding his time until he gets back into the side.”

It's not that i wan't Wood to leave, I just think it would be better for him as he would be getting more first team football and we could use the money for other players.

I think we should sell the players such as Osbourne, the players that arnt on the fringe of the team. No point in reducing the quality of the squad.
