Went last night and seriously doubt Thorn now, tactics were non-existant, we were happy to sweep the ball from left to right and vice-versa but never actually attacked, there were loads of opportunities to go through the middle but never taken, we will struggle to score with this side. Hussey clearly wants to leave, Kilbane and Sheff legs are clearly gone, at least we defended ok but oppo was really poor. i defended Thorn last season as i thought his players let him down but after last night ive changed my mind.

the chants of 'we are gonna have a shot' summed it up as kilbane stood over the penalty , i don't know if anyone noticed but in the 2nd half kilbane gestured to the fans after another bit of rubbish play, that isnt the act of a skipper in my eyes, he should be experienced enough to understand why weve all got the hump

i know its a results game but you can't polish a turd!!! hopefully the lads that are missing will get back soon and strenghthen us

Covboy, these are pretty much the exact views I developed watching the pre-season tour. Players generally didn't know what to do with the ball when they had it and communication in the opposition half was poor. I thought Sheffers was very poor in the games I saw although Kilbane does have some obvious class, I don't think he can play week in week out without tiring. I put it down to it being a pre-season friendly at the time but its been a few games now where nothing has changed... I will reserve my judgement on Thorn to a few games in to the season.

We Still need an Attack/Striker coach!! listening to the interview last night AT referred to all the hard work done on shape and Defensive side .We have no-one on our staff who can bring this Element to our game

Sounds much like the same shit as last year why don't we attack.Alot last year we kept possession and played the ball across the back four.By the sounds of it we are going to have another long hard boring season. We need to create to give the fricking forwards a chance of getting that big bonus.

yep we still have the coleman mentality! thorn played a diamond but clearly didn't have players to do that! its thorns job to make his players play without fear, hussey got tackled by a postman!!!!

WOW you are turning on thorn after we won are first game back, players are bound to be a bit rusty considering it's there first competitive game back the fact that we didn't play well and still won is a good sign. Take into account that we were missing are first string midfield (if jennings signs) with thomas fleck barton and jennings all being unavailible shows the strength in depth we have. Giv thorn a chance :mad::jerkit:

Some of the chants we sang last night was the highlight of the whole night :)

I agree about Hussey. I don't know why we don't just offload him (if there's any takers of course) and bring in a replacement who might show a bit of passion. Seems to me he's just a player who makes up the numbers and only wants to be there to abuse his team mates verbally!

yep i want him sacked! but not shaw to get the temp job lol. I went to every game last season and didn't want him sacked then, but after last night hes gotta go

I think it's a bit too early to be worried. The midfield in particular is missing a few players through injury and at the end of the day we've won away from home which hasn't happened too often and we're through to the second round of the cup which again hasn't happened too often.

Think the start to the league season is going to be crucial. If we get a decent run going in the first 5 or 6 games then we could be up and running but if the reverse happens a 'here we go again' mentality could kick in amoungst the players and fans and it could be long season again.

I'm tactically oblivious. I couldn't tell you the advantages of a 442 over a 433 other than the fact that you've lost a midfielder and gained a striker. But how much of a game of football is tactics? When is it just down to 22 men on a field kicking a ball about. They talk about the rub of the green, player ability and so forth. When does the blame lay to AT and tactics or the guys with the boots?

I must say that this makes me laugh.....we have lost the previous 3 first round ties vs lower league opposition in this cup, and only won one game away from home all of last season, lost of posters also stated that they would rather 'win ugly' like we did under AB than lose playing tippy tappy.

We won, we won away from home, we won ugly. We're going to have to do that a lot this season, because teams will see us a big scalp.

If your opponents GK is MOTM and you lose 1-0 that is unlucky. No formation can change things.

A 4-3-3 can be the same as a 4-5-1 if you have 2 strikers that can also play wide like Sheffers.

we must have the most fickle fans in the country. Its 1 game we won you can't play first class football all of the time, you have to give the team time to gel.

Thats what i think anyway :whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

I'm sorry - but i'm not going to judge this season's team when we're fielding Billy Daniels.

Wait until Barton and Fleck are in the team.

i have absolutely no idea how you could assume from last night that Hussey wants to leave.

looking forward to seeing fleck and barton, midfield is our biggest problem thorn has to work out what works in there.

hussey wasn't working hard enough, the way thorn played it last night the full backs had to get forward, hussey is a fair player but no prospect

on my return from inverness i put a post on here that we needed a quality striker and we still looked like last seasons team . nothing has changed . we were told that there was money to be spent but i do not think we have paid a transfer fee yet . stuart bevon from Wycombe was a player i suggested and now i see preston are in for him .

Just so I'm clear; the record for this season is 1 competitive match played. 1 competitive match won. With three-quarters of the fist-team midfield available.

And you're worried? :thinking about:

Sheffs legs gone? He's only 29 it's not that he's past it he just never had it. He's crap

bollocks, absolutely class prior to going to birmingham. Had to have surgery on a persistent knee injury and that's certainly hampered his pace. He'll get 10-15 goals this year and create another 5 or 6, good enough for me!

This is amazing. We are ever likely to start slowly having lost the core of the squad. The team will take time to gel.

Give them a chance............

Not reading too much into the first game but the worrying thing which is same as last season is attempts on target 2 in 90 minutes is just not good enough. We need to start fast and keep our foot on the gas for 90 minutes.IMO

I must admit I was a bit worried last night and Sheffers did annoy me (hence the initially angry post)
The narrowness of the formation is still a concern but having Fleck and Barton will hopefully help. I'm going to reserve judgement until 10 games in.

That said if we win every game 1-0 I'll take it; we put up with Boothroyd.

If we persist with this nonsense playing style expect another long and miserable season.

I really cant believe some of our fans sometimes .So what ,we turn up last night and win 8-0 cause we`re CCFC and we should?

If we do sign Jennings then we had a whole first choice midfield out ,Elliott is coming back from injury ,Bell is out and we have two footballing centre halves that are getting used to the english game .....

I would have took 1-0 last night , will take 1-0 Saturday and a few more until the side and squad settles down
