For people being cold, when we won 3-1(?) at MK Dons when they played at that hockey stadium. I've never been so cold at a football ground ever. Even when we scored I reckon half of the fans couldn't jump up as they were frozen to the wooden bench type stand we were stood on. Still sends shivers down me when I think of it.

We won 3-0. You're right I was there, it was bitter cold. I am sure the City end was oversold, I remember standing at the front as there was no room, pretty sure I got on the pitch when we scored!

I've got a couple from going to Sheffield:

1. I went to Wednesday the day the match was called off after 27 minutes due to the rain (2007).

Met up with some mates in a pub near Hillsborough (up the top of the hill behind that big home fans only place which is close to the ground opposite the park). Got so wet walking to the game that my phone ended up with water damage. Ended up staying around Sheffield drinking all day once the game was called off, missed the last fast train back to Manchester meaning I ended up having to get a taxi back from there to home, cost me a fortune.

2. The other year I went to Bramall Lane to see us throw away a 2 goal in lead against 10 men of Sheff Utd, I think it was Pressley's last game. Anyway, same sketch again, end up drinking round Sheffield and miss my train entirely. £80 for a taxi.

Shame we're not playing either club next season really, I do enjoy a day out there.

Forest green was a shit game and annoying wet away end but I quite liked Nailsworth.

Yeah, that was rubbish. I was stick recovering, not meant to get cold, etc. Told my wife there were covered stands. Got soaking wet and stood next to a bunch of racist chavs, swearing and abusing the black players. One of them was a girl. Wonder if it was the same nightmare at Doncaster?

Two miserable occasions that come to mind that piss me off to this day.

1st was a glorious hot summers afternoon, opening day of the season at the Ricoh, we’d traveled in numbers and started ok, went 1-0 down but was in it still. Fell apart in the end. Lost 3-0. Little pony tailed shit got all three.

2nd was later the same season, a rain drenched Saturday evening where the pitch was almost unplayable. Thought it would suit our style, it almost did. Went 1-0 up early in the second half, was a nice goal. Looked to of won the game till the cheeky fucker took a dive in the box, you couldn’t believe it, tv commentators couldn’t, our right back couldn’t believe it yet the little twat in the middle did and awarded a penalty to the home side.
I left furious that night, set the tone for the week that went from bad to worse. It was supposed to be our bloody year.

Still wounded to this day..... Kevin Nolan.

Blackpool away in 2007/8. Five hours on the M6 to get in with a minute to spare, late December in the uncovered stand so it was arctic, Kevin Kyle sent off a few minutes after their opener and it got worse from there. After their third of four goals we fucked it off early and then got stuck in a traffic jam on the way home anyway. Worst game I've seen in every possible way.

We spent the weekend in Blackpool for this one.

It was absolutely freezing and wet/icy in Blackpool if I remember correctly. After a pretty raucous Friday night we ended up back in the pub about 11am on the Saturday. Staggered up the road just in time for kickoff, to witness the most abject display I’ve perhaps ever seen from City, stuck on that temporary scaffold Terrace in the cold and wind. Suffice to say we headed straight back to Yate’s and got “on the shots” at about 5pm.... eventually exiting Syndicate nightclub absolutely fucked at about 3am... the next morning was just as bad, coupled by a quite agonising hangover, in fact i was in such a poor state my little brother had to drive us home because I could barely lift my head, let alone open my eyes...

Aged 14 in about 93(?) me and a few mates were desperate to go to an away game... most immediate one after discussing and asking parents was Oldham in midweek....
Horrific 0-0 draw with John Gayle playing up top.
Same season, saved up money, Newcastle away in FA cup... lost 2-0 didn't have a shot and freezing cold (think either Wegerle sent off or did ACL)
West Ham in 96 ish... 1-1 equaliser laid on by Andy Ducros (team mate of mine in junior ccfc sides) so not bad... only to go to pick up mates car next day from mercers opposite HR (had a few beers) to find mates (only one of us who drove) car (absolute heap, no locks, key snapped in ignition so could start with coin) had been nicked.... but returned into a different space.... and thieves had nicked his leather jacket but put car back!

Watford away when we lost 5-2 (just had to Google the year - 2002).

Had been out bang at it the night before ending up in Scholars and then was on the early train to Watford. Managed to squeeze a beer down me on the way down but then we got to the boozer and the hangover properly kicked in and I was in a bad way.

Long story short spent the whole game sat by the home fans with my head in my hands wanting to puke my guts up whilst we got spanked on the pitch.

Left with about 15 mins to go fucked straight off to the train station, got the first train back to Cov and went home to bed where I should have stayed from the start!!

Actually also Watford away again when the game got called off because of the death of the lad they had on loan from Man U (Jimmy?) and they closed all the pubs down in the town centre to try and get us out of Watford. We managed to find a snooker club to have a few then my brother arrived and drove us to Bicester where we went on the lash in a mates pub.

Set off for that game, 4 of us in my mates Fiesta XR2 with a broken heater, absolutely freezing! We stopped at a supermarket for more cans only to be told village gossip style by this bearded bumpkin that the 'match was off, frozen pitch!' Returning to supermarket car park, my mate had picked up a parking ticket for using a disabled bay, signage obscured by the frosty ground.
I went that day my mate had an XR2 silver I had a Cavalier and it was like driving in a winter wonderland as the roads were white and so where the trees. We left from the Styvechale arms lol!

Rochdale away in the cup when they beat us 1-0 was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen but the day out was a great crack with loads of us ending up in Stafford on the way back.

Did we come close to losing to Woking at some stage too?
I remember them trouncing West Brom - Tim Buzaglo (?) - but seem to remember us playing them after this...my mind is going.

For me one of my worst away day was Donny away Boxing Day 2014

It was fucking freezing, 6 inches of snow and one of the worst performances under Pressley (there were many I know) and we ended up with 9 men and a horrible drive back to Cov which took 3 hours due to the snow.

Newcastle away (98 i think), 4 days after losing at Everton in the cup with 6500 city fans there were about 300 of us at St James.
They were rebuilding and moved us into a corner with no roof on, there was sleet and rain pouring all night. We took the lead but lost 4-1 and had the 200 mile journey home on a weds night having got drenched for 2 hours.

I'll never forget that one, my nippers were fairly young, under 5 I think. Anyway I decided it would be their first away game. For some reason I put them in the car with no thought of the weather and it was bitter. We got there late just in time to hear the first goal go in. Within 10 minutes of sitting down the lads complained they were cold. With no hats, gloves or warm jackets they moaned constantly so I rubbed their hand and bought them a hotdog hoping that would pacify them. It didn't. We saw the second goal go in not that they paid much attention. Half time came and they looked so miserable but I tried sticking it out for a further 10 minutes before they asked if the could go home. Looking at their sad blue faces I couldn't say no. As we left walking away from the ground another cheer went up as the third goal went in. I was hacked off but they were just glad to be in a warm car. I vowed never to take them again but of course I did - all part of the careful indoctrination!

I’ve got a few!

Man City away the season we got relegated from the prem. it was FA cup. Crap match, we probably should’ve won and then Shaun Goater scores in the last minute or 2. It all kicked off and we had to stay in for ages.

Colchester away, probably about 10-11 years ago. They were still at Layer Road. Police told me to park up in this one street, so I did. Went to the match. Drab 0-0, literally no chances for either team. Got back to the car... parking ticket! I drove 4 hours there, 4 hours back!

Charlton when we nearly got relegated from the champ. Toothless display.

Bristol City when we did get relegated from the champ. I think the worst thing was we’d given ourselves hope of staying up and it was between us and them. Pretty sure we went 1 up and then it just came crashing down.

I didn’t go but I imagine Sutton Utd must have been pretty bad.

That was an early ko time IIRC, and I was playing against some team from Cov (played for Warks County Council) and about to take a corner, when some bloke on the side told me City were losing. I'd forgotten it was an early kick off and went into a state of semi-shock trying to get my head around it - Guinness book of records for the longest time to take a corner!

My old man picked me up from my mate’s house that day. When he told me we’d lost I refused to believe him; thought he was winding me up! Took him about an hour to convince me he was telling the truth!
Nowadays nothing would surprise me...the joys of supporting a mediocre football team. I was reflecting on this watching the scenes at Anfield this week. We’ll never be in that position, however, our ‘mini highs’ are all the more sweeter.

Me too. We've all seen Steve Walsh's classic City career, at least.

Seen many a thrashing at Watford. Alleviated by the 7-8 year olds penalty shootout one game, where one team was wearing claret & blue. The stadium announcer couldn't understand why we were all booing that team, and cheering the other one, kept asking us to stop. the kids loved it though! Kept coming up and gesturing when they scored.

And another one (may have been the 5-2?) where Russel Watson was booed off the pitch at half time and scuttled away. Small mercies in dire days. Also remember one being a bank holiday, me parking my car expecting it to be like Cov, where a bank holiday is cheap - it wasn't. Scrabbled around on the floor and boot of my car to find enough change (it was £16.50 I owed or something like that) got to £16 and the bloody machine said it was full and couldn't accept any more coins. Spent ages prowling Watford trying to get cash, as all the shops had shut and the ATMs were broken / rejected me / I was too tight to pay to use one unless I absolutely had to!

Bristol City 2011/12 - lost 3-1
Crawley 2012/13 - lost 2-0
Rochdale 2016/17 - lost 2-0
Morecambe 2017/18 - lost 2-0
Bristol Rovers 2018/19 - lost 3-1

At these games I was either piss wrapped in rain and freezing, sarcastically celebrating a corner as we were that poor or depressed with the thought of relegation

There’s loads more but these ones stand out off the top of my head

Chelsea in our relegation season from the Prem.

We started off really well until a through ball had a young Chris Kirkland rushing off his line to make a save at the feet of Hasselbaink. Who instead of trying to beat the keeper thought it better to engineer the merest of touches which caused him to touch his toes in mid air, do a 360 reverse corkscrew in the pike position, land, rollover, and sit up with his arms outstretched appealing to the numpty ref. Surprise, surprise the ref gave the pen, sent off Kirkland, Hasslebaink scored and we got gubbed 6:1. Not that I saw their last goal or ours for that matter as I left when the 5th went in and met a load of equally gutted and angry Sky Blues at the local tube station.

Also remember the cup game in the 90s at Man City. It was an evening game and you had to navigate your way through a warren of alley ways in the Moss Side to get to the ground. Can't remember much about the game but we won 1:0 and had to walk back through "ambush central" to get back to the car. Surprisingly we met little opposition until one of my mates decided he was hungry and wanted some chips. We found a chippy and then went back to eat them in the car. In our euphoric and environment unfriendly mood we chucked the wrappers out of the car window before setting off. Unfortunately we didn't see the blue Mancs hovering next to the car. One of them opened the car door telling us to take our crap with us and chucked the wrappers back at us. We were about to have a go and then more came from no where surrounding and banging on the car. That was our cue to get the hell out of there. The car door was slammed and we were convinced the windows were gonna get put through. Just as I was making my peace with my maker blue lights appeared. Never have I been so pleased to see Young William turn up.
