We’ve had some shite players over the years, but none of them got us relegated to the lowest level of league football.

Tim Sherwood passed the same medical. I got invited down to Ryton that summer and he told me about his leg break. Horrific stuff. He was running round the outer perimeter of the two pitches for over an hour after the rest of the team had come in for lunch. He was trying to get fit but it was clear once the season started it wasn’t ever going to happen.

Either Nathan Clark or Kevin Foley (I can’t remember which, both were as shit as each other) was captain when relegation was confirmed. Nothing sums up that season more than that.

If anyone questions how shit our players have been just tell them that Julian Gray, Danny Seabourne, Matt Heath and Gary Borrowdale all played for us and aren’t in our worst 11 of the last 15 years.
