Wouldn't we be better off going into Saturday's game believing we are down? (1 Viewer)

Just thinking we might play with a bit more freedom that way.

All this 'must win game' stuff seems to be getting to the team and there has been a lack of fluency and lots of nervous snatching at shots and misplaced passes of late.

Wouldn't it be better for AT to just send them out there and tell them to play with a bit of freedom and for them to just go and enjoy themselves.

Probably got more chance of winning that way.

Then, if we win, we can look at what's happened elsewhere and obviously the approach for the Saints game might just be a completely different affair.

I just think if it's drilled into the players that Saturday is a must win game then we're going to get another disjointed, out of sorts performance from the team.

I just think we need to play without the pressure.

Be interesting to see how AT plays it.

After the other night i'm backing Cody to bag a couple ,as for the rest of it ,their goalie looks shit lets get at him,but it won't make any difference as Brizzle will get what they need.so gutted i was wrong about the Southampton game gonna be like a funeral down there .

Re Sylus: I'm resisting the temptation Otis. Honestly I am.

But I think you're right. We could do with a bit of pressure off. We've been bricking it before every game since January almost. The players must be feeling it too. Perhaps that's why a few younger(er) lads might play with a bit more freedom and fewer nerves. But that's in another thread.

Saturday's is the must win of all must wins isn't it. There must be tremendous pressure on the team.

Best send them out telling them to just go out as if we are down and for them to enjoy the game and just try and put in a good performance and win the match.

Clingan and Cranie should be putting in good performances anyway for their potential new clubs' scouts that will be there.

Well, our team has proven it doesn't cope well with pressure. How many times this season have we snapped under pressure? Forest, Peterborough, Bristol, to name a few. Get that pressure out of the equation, and we may well get three points. There isn't any point the team worrying about the Pompey or Bristol results, because there is nothing they can do about them.

ha Otis how many times are you going to keep twisting this? It's like the death of a family member I know but you have to let go...;)

I am going for a nervy 1-0 Cov or a 1-1.

None of our squad can cope with the pressure.

Bristol should really beat Barnsley though, Barnsley have been as bad if not worse than our first half of the season since January, if they cock up though anything can happen on the last day.

I still say we are going down whether we win or not on Saturday, Paxman.

just thinking of the best way to get a decent performance and a victory out of the team that's all.

Like I said a few posts back about fearing Doncaster now the pressure was off them! Difference is we're NOT DOWN YET so as long as there's something to play for, the pressure will be on.

yep I think we should send out the kids and appoint Carsley as alluded to in another post.

Thast is such a defeatist point of view. Supposing Bristoll lose both their games and we'd experimented and lost...how would feel then, always left wondering?!

The pressure of the Millwall game didn't do the trick, did it? I am inclined to agree. I would be saying to the players that "it is out of our hands and what will be will be. I want us to win today, but not because it is vital to staying up, but because the fans deserve it with all the shit they have got from the board (play up the us vs. them stance, leaving it unspoken that the crowd will be small and sullen!). Show them that you appreciate their support by working hard, playing with freedom and confidence and then applauding all corners of the ground at the end when you have won. You have got the ability and the desire has never been lacking (yes, I would lie to them). Get out there, enjoy yourselves and play with a bit of pride. I've got a huge amount of faith in you, go and win."

* EDIT - available for motivational speeches / propaganda / etc. Especially Friday afternoons, they tend to slow up a touch *
