Lol, might be good for their morale. Visit a run down British town, pop into Home Bargains, CEX and grab a bite in Spoons, chat to some local heroin addicts and get back on your flight thinking maybe TrumpLand isn't that bad after all.Seems they’re attracting American tourists.
Ryan Reynolds has transformed Wrexham. Who will save Britain’s other struggling towns?
Can the Hollywood takeover of a Welsh football club really be a model for regeneration?www.politico.eu
It's not always just about how much the club spends tbf, it's the bending of the rules rather than the breaking of them. The club, like Stockport, probably can't afford big fees on signing fees or goal bonuses etc. But a big Hollywood star can afford (off the books) to tale the entire squad to Vegas with his own money for a promotion party. Now that won't go down as club expenses and hinder their ffp. So which club is more likely to attract players? The one that'll pay you a weekly wage? Or the one that'll offer you a weekly wage and a free, all expenses paid trip to Vegas?Have they broken any rules? I’ve not been paying much attention but have they spent more than Birmingham this year?
I can think of another club whose fanbase this applies to!
Watch the documentary... if you can bear it.... R&R helping pay for little environmental projects, art support, cultural initiatives and investment in town is growing as a knock on effect. Its sweet really but may very quickly get annoying like Bournemouth, Brighton and Palace - at least its the north rather than growing trend of southern clubs dominating the PL. Better than the money invested by dodgy characters I guess. Prefer to do it our way although less $exy i suppose. Funny thing is some of their deluded fans think they are going to cruise through Championship, build a 55k stadium and that they will soon fill itI keep hearing this, how have they actually transformed the town?
If it wasnt thrust upon us so much in the media i think most people would praise the way the owners have built the club since they took over, both the club itself and the community. Issue is all we hear about is the media pandering to them at every opportunity which makes them the lower league Liverpool for popularity among football fans. The main thing that bothers me about it is that it's portrayed as some sort of fairy-tale. The reality of course is that they're just another bank-rolled club able to outspend their opponents. Nothing fairy-tale about that.
Their fans are going to be insufferable, because that's what fans are like when their team does well, but the media joining in with them sticks in the craw.
I suppose one thing you can say about the owners is at least they chose a club in an unfashionable area than another one from fucking London.
There is also the small matter of the clubs without celebrity tycoons being denied promotion because Disney FC want to pay silly money in the lower leagues. If it wasnt thrust upon us so much in the media i think most people would praise the way the owners have built the club since they took over, both the club itself and the community. I think ultimately they are just slightly embarrassing, you get the arrogance that suddenly swoops through a fan base that comes with this which makes them unlikeable and you get Yanks latching on to it and lets face it, no one really likes yanks. But then, I think Ryan Reynolds is a lot more likeable than that cringey geezer with the egg shaped head at Blues for example and really there's way too many clubs that i will hate coming into this league next season to waste perfectly good hatred on a small club from Wales who are a bit of a one off. There is also the small matter of the clubs without celebrity tycoons being denied promotion because Disney FC want to pay silly money in the lower leagues.
I've had bigger farts , their all time average attendance is 6000 , ours is over 17,000A friend of mine said yesterday that Wrexham are a bigger club than both Cov and Pompey.
I told him it was his worst take of all time.
They've got more social media followers and their revenues are looking good but they're not even the 2nd biggest team in Wales.
I agree, not many good eggs in the league next year. Bit wrenching that Collins has helped one of them clinch safety.I think ultimately they are just slightly embarrassing, you get the arrogance that suddenly swoops through a fan base that comes with this which makes them unlikeable and you get Yanks latching on to it and lets face it, no one really likes yanks. We're going to have (assuming we don't go up) Leicester, Birmingham, one or possibly both of Sunderland/Blunts... just writing those down makes me feel a bit sick. Luton too are a ratty little club.
Hopefully that was his final trick of the season and he doesn't have an encore against Boro.I agree, not many good eggs in the league next year. Bit wrenching that Collins has helped one of them clinch safety.
However you dress it up, three back-to-back promotions is noteworthy. There is also the small matter of the clubs without celebrity tycoons being denied promotion because Disney FC want to pay silly money in the lower leagues.
He’s the kind of magician who pulls the heads of the rabbits out of the hatHopefully that was his final trick of the season and he doesn't have an encore against Boro.
With unlimited cash it’s not impressive in the slightest. However you dress it up, three back-to-back promotions is noteworthy.
But our rise from the basement to the top end of the Championship with what we had to contend with is significantly more impressive from a footballing point of view.
It's not the fairy-tale it's made out to be, but it's still an achievement. You've got to win the games. With unlimited cash it’s not impressive in the slightest.

Most of their support are fully expecting to just waltz through unchallenged, much like Birmingham, to another promotion.
But Wrexham in particular will be put firmly on their arses.
Budget wise though the pair of them will be comparable to the parachute teams - so it’ll be how that’s spent and what players they can attract that will be key. And that’s just from revenues - apparently Wrexham shirt sales is on a premier league level cos of the documentary - absolutely crazy.Really interested to see how they get on in the Championship. With Blues coming up, they are going to be one of the minnows. I'd make them favourites to go down along with Oxford
If it’s not a cov shirt in our city egg the fuckers , makes my piss boilBut. It’s always been like that. The rise in the number of Man City shirts in Cov didn’t chime well with me.
Where have you seen they expect to waltz it?
If it’s not a cov shirt in our city egg the fuckers , makes my piss boil
Yes I certainly do, I’m also called cov or Cov Craig just about anywhere. Most people who know me know I’m a season ticket holder and go to pretty much most games, I’m not a plastic pot chasing supporter, I support the team where I was born. 32 years I’ve lived in this placeDo you wear your Cov shirt in Bury?

The strange thing is I know this bloke who supported Manure, had the shirt but never went to a game. Said he couldn’t get tickets. I get him 4 freebies so he could take his mates, never went . The along comes man Citeh and he’s in the village pub wearing sky blue

I remember when my son was a few months old ( he is 22 now ) and.my.mum bought a Man City away kit for him because it was on sale. I made it very clear no way was he going to be wearing that rubbishIf it’s not a cov shirt in our city egg the fuckers , makes my piss boil
If it's a decent manager they need, I'm sure Russell Slade would be more obliging.I enjoyed the first season of the documentary, the second I found fairly hard to watch, mostly because the newer fans have massive egos and believe their going to walk the championship and be in prem after a season in the championship.
But fair play to R&R for looking like they actually care about the club and the surrounding area, but honestly I think they'll struggle after L1. They were big players down there, now their entering into leagues with serious money being thrown around. As it's been said, their manager is very 'old school' which works at the lower levels, but a player on 20k a week, isn't going to put up with being constantly sworn at.
Wonder what RS is up to these daysIf it's a decent manager they need, I'm sure Russell Slade would be more obliging.

Wrexham are punching above their weight due to rich owners. Their size will catch up with them eventually, although not for sometime unfortunately. Brum are slightly different as they have a massive catchment.A friend of mine said yesterday that Wrexham are a bigger club than both Cov and Pompey.
