Yeah, it's the rent (3 Viewers)

I think if the Club was owned by local people who did a good job then there would be an argument for the Council helping them out financially.

However as a Coventry Council taxpayer, why should I have to pay more tax so Onye can have a payrise?

Shit, now you have be hoping he was on £8k a year....it would be under the new tax threshold, so there's one advantage.

We should pay on the number of games he plays.....

If we could pay him by the number of GOOD games he plays, we'd be saving even more money!:

Sadly, Baker was seemingly at last coming good in those two games before he got injured.

Two games...as you intimate Otis, it is this inconsistency/the odd good game here and there which has us where we are.....you could put several players in that bracket (McSheffrey for starters).

I spoke to Jon Williams who is an adviser to one or two of the younger players (or something similar, didn't understand what he was saying on that), and we were comparing wide players like him to the present crop, and as Baker was on the stage speaking, I pointed to him and said to Williams '...and we have 1 good game in 10 players like Baker...' to which Williams replied '...and another difference is that I wasn't on £8k a week..'. I questioned this with Williams and he reassured me that Baker was on £8k a week.

Is that true or not? I can only relay what I was told.

Fair enough LBB - but when you consider the average championship wage is about £4.2k per week, I doubt baker is on double that.

I don't believe Baker is on that. I bet even Clingan isn't.

"The Telegraph also understands that the rent may have been withheld to try to force new talks over the payments."

If true, this speaks volumes about the sort of bandits we are owned by! So they deal in blackmail now, do they?

I think my rent on my house is too high, shall I try and squeeze my quite hard up himself, actually landlord by refusing to pay the rent? He'd tell me to fuck off and kick me out.

I agree with you. Dont see it as a great tactic either NLHWC ..... puts the club in breach of contract. One remedy that ACL has is to petition to wind up CCFC.... that happens SISU investors lose nearly all their money and the option to purchase the stadium is extinguished too. In theory that could leave the club to be bought by someone else as a "new" club much like is suggested at Rangers - thats going to mean penalty points etc but also could get rid of SISU ...... we might want that but not sure they do. Seems a risky strategy to me for SISU to take

Think there would be a lot of fans that would take ACL winding a SISU controlled club up if it meant a fresh start under new owners

If it's the price to pay, I'd take that in a shot. But as you imply OSB, it's not a tactic that is likely to end well for SISU: another case of their methods not being applicable to the business they are in now?

Careful about your selection of words here, dear chap.

The Evening Standard has revealed that Sisu Capital has been criticised in the High Court. Joy Seppala, was accused of lying in a High Court wrangle over electricity company TXU.

She was criticised by the trial judge over her "distorted recollection of events" and for being "prone to exaggerate".

A slap on the legal wrists, but not fraud.

Does say plenty about our shadowy secretive owners though.....

Unfortunately having just posted a thread about what SISU have achieved in their 5 year tenure so far.
I have them down as having putting us in the same league position as we would have been if we went in administration and they had not saved us.
I have them down as increasing our debts by a million more than it was when we were saved!
So I never thought I would say but I would see ACL threatening that as a positive move

No one can support SISU's stance on this but as a Division One club this rent looks huge and a real millstone around the clubs neck. Potential buyers would not be encouraged by this.

This trial was in Belgium, not the UK-and it wasn't recent either. OSB/MMM, if I can find it online I will post it-though the ruling certainly happened.

New owners may seek to reduce the rent due by means by honest and direct negotiation and to agree a new contract. I would have thought there would be scope to at least sit around the table and investigate the possibilities of such. Different to the lack of goodwill coming out of simply breaching the terms of an existing contract in order to strong-arm negotiations

Maybe this is a daft question, but is the rent a set amount each year and not governed by which division we are in? If not, why didn't we make an agreement as such that the rent in the Premier would be one amount but that it would reduce or increase dependant on which division we were in?

Obviously you get bigger gates in the Prem than you would in League One. Is it right that it should be the same amount whatever? Maybe it is on a sliding scale, I don't know.

Probably not, the plan was we were heading in the opposite direction to league 1 when SISU took over.

I don't think this is the case more likely we're struggling to finance the rest of the season.

Its the same regardless of which division were in and the crowds we get.

I agree that the deal is harsh on the club, but my argument is Sisu knew exactly what they were letting themselves in for.

Prior to buying the club they should have sat down with ACL and put forward something like you have suggested, if ACL said no & the stadium rent is as bigger problem as Sisu make out then they should have walked away.

And I'd go as far to say they surely did the maths and reasoned that it was a reasonable charge if they achieved their stated intention of building a young group of players with the potential to grow into a Premiership side.

I'm surprised that the comments by Tim Fisher haven't attracted more attention. Priority of the board to ensure continued clear communication with the fans? Are we really swallowing that tripe? How the fuck dare he say that?!?
