I thought we, the fans, should take ownership of this .
So what's your memory that stays with you most of all ? 1987 ? Beating Man U 2-0 at their place ? Promotion under Jimmy Hill ? Moldovan's goal at Villa ?

Mine is always an away game, when the city fans are in large numbers - The one I remember fondly is a 2-0 win against Wimbledon at Selhurst in the 1990's when the supporters invaded the pitch . I cannot recall city supporters ever being this loud and I remember having to stick my fingers in my ears as it was bloody painful. I remember David Burrows was absolutely outstanding. I remember Nuddy's second goal sending everyone absolutely wild. Even though all the other relegation rivals (Man City for one) won that day I couldn't have felt more proud. My hearing was never the same after that.

Apart from the obvious cup finals staying up games and last at HR/first st Ricoh .....

Grimsby away taking the piss out of Matt Jansen missin and the Jeremy Beadle ref, Walsall away when the queen mum died and phoning my mates mobile 3 times during the minute silence stood next to him. Forest st home the 5-4 game in the cup, Keith O'Neill cameo appearance before disappearing again and Led Sealey comeback on loan taking the jeers at the edge of the box from the West End.

Oh and Peter Billing getting sent off in the Simon Cup early on in his City time. I remember thinking it was unjust but with what followed in the rest of his time I think I was probably seeing it through sky blue blinkers.

wembley 87, the quarter final at hillsbough , was unbelievable if you where in that leppings lane end , was better than the semi final. spurs at white hart lane . the other sunday was'nt bad either. beating liverpool 3-2 at anfield in the cup was good , nuddies hatrick at anfield was pretty good too.

The Villa cup game in 98 was a brilliant buzz, dominated the game but felt like we'd never score. 6k Cov there too.

I'm a bit younger so can't remember as much!

Going on the actual football, I still think Preston in the JPT at the Ricoh was good in terms of going mental.

The atmosphere when we equalised against Newcastle at the Ricoh where thousands of people came running back in going mad.

Peterborough games where we managed to come back.

In terms of old school, last game at HR was pretty special too.

first up league cup (real cup) 1981 semi City v West Ham losing 2-0 half time Gary Thompson og. Top come back, we beat the Hammers 3-2. Gary Thompson hatrick (1 og). I genuinely thought we were going to Wembley.
2nd. (real cup no.2) 87 cup final. my dreams come true.

The game last season where we battered whoever was our rivals at the top (Gillingham maybe?) and I felt a sense of both disbelief and genuine optimism for the first time in years.

There was a league cup game where Scott Dann equalised at the death too, I thought it was West Ham but reading Nick's post it's probably the Newcastle game he mentioned.

Terry Gibson hatrick 4-0 thrashing Liverpool. Micky Gynn winner at Stoke 5th round of 87 cup run sitting next to my traitor brother who supported Stoke. Recently, 6-0 thrashing of Bury (3-0 up after 15mins). Fergy and Wallace partnership all those goals and away wins, great SBA tour. Not sure the Joy Sepalla letter understands our true emotions. If she did she would let us go to an owner who does understand what our club means to us.

Smashing Villa 3-0 at HR on Boxing Day '92. I was ten at the time. We scored 3 goals quite quickly in the second half. Quinn and Rosario tore them up. I remember each time we scored the SBA erupting jumping everywhere and all their spare change flying out there pockets. Must of picked up a few quid that day. Happy times

THE Bristol City match. You could feel the tension in the packed ground 45 mins before kick off. Everyone was on edge. And when it finished the relief was incredible.

It was Newcastle, Gunnarsson launched the ball boys chair out the boy to get in his run up for the long throw!

Think Owen scored the winner for them a 1 on 1 in extra time, as soon as he went through you'd put your life saving on him scoring!

That's the game I hate the most......I had to study for my Accountants final exams that week and had to revise and all my mates have never shut up about it being the best away game...EVER

Spurs away when we needed to win and we sent Sunderland down..again (pahahahahaha) that was awesome....full on turn out from every head there has ever been a head up the City. Trouble is...my mates went to that one aswell!!!!! pffff

Absolutely agree with this. Think the explosion of celebration and relief was greater than any other game (remember I ended up about 20 feet from where I started and twisted my ankle in the process!). The dream we thought was over was alive again.

I was at that game. Hughes took his goals well but as we found out later was a piss head and he failed us as is usual. Expectations were high and the outcomes never got anywhere near. bugga ain't it. So it goes on and on.

My first ever game - A very uneventful end of season 2-0 defeat to M'boro 1974/75 will still hold memories. The slaying of Wolves and Alan Green's hat trick to send them down at end of 1975/76 (Altho true reason for memories of this fixture have been detailed in another thread)
That incredible first leg turn around v West Ham in Lg cup semi 1981. Both the victories at VP, the cup win at Liverpool late '90's.

You describe it exactly the way I remember it Torch. The sound from the city fans felt like an atomic bomb going off. Years later, I spoke to Micky Gynn about it, and was cheeky enough to suggest that he had mishit the shot, but he insisted he’d aimed it right into that bottom corner. Having watched it again, I’ve no reason to doubt him. Best moment ever - bought him a pint to say thank you

Inevitably, many of the other emotional memories are of the great escapes, mostly in the seventies and eighties. But in the 90’s I remember going embarrassingly crazy at the end of a game against Chelsea at Highfield Road, when Strachan almost single-handedly got us the points we needed to be safe.
