If he had no intention of leaving, why did we offer a new contract?

To reward him for what he's done so far? To demonstrate their commitment to each other to ward of interest from other parties? To show the fans that the owners 'may' have finally woken up and are prepared to hang on to something that's actually beneficial to the club?

Have any of those for free mate. You're very much welcome.

They're going to talk to Viveash to extend his contract too. With the confirmation of Sunderland making an approach this feels like a real statement of intent, fantastic news all round.

Yes, you beat me to it. Viveash clearly a key part of the staff both from a coaching point of view and the contacts he has in the game from his time at Chelsea. Great news if we can tie him down too, has done an excellent job of filling Steve Taylor's shoes and becoming MR's trusted right hand man

That has made my day!!! What brilliant news! He thoroughly deserves a new contract! Can't wait to see the hero's reaction he will get tonight!

Excellent on so many levels, we don't have to start again with a leap in to the unknown, we haven't strengthened a rival and we have stability within the club.
Coventry City have just given themselves a massive vote of confidence and now we can build of the two and a half years of progress made since Robins came back.
This has been a bad week on the pitch but a positive end which will lead to a brighter future.

Bloody SISU. Bloke had no intention of leaving and we offer him a lucrative new contract. Probably means we won't sign a striker in January.

Fantastic news, love the man. gotta be close to club legend status now.

Another byproduct of a silver lining: whoever Sunderland now approach will know they were second choice (at least)

I may be jumping the gun but I can't believe Robins signed this extension without having some assurances on us being back in Coventry in the near future.
Let's hope it's not just wishful thinking.
