"Certain players will be banished from this football club" (4 Viewers)

It certainly is worrying for Pressley. How is he going to get the best and full commitment from all the players after saying quiet publically what he said. Players are very powerful in todays game and can and do make life very difficult for managers. How many times have we seen managers sacked a new guy come in and the same group of players start winning and playing well?

Exactly it's one thing showing he 'cares' (Although surely that's a given) but to show his full emotions and thoughts in a press conference could be his undoing. Surely to just say: "What's been said to the players about Sunday will be kept in-house, we've drawn a line under it and will move on", would make more sense.

Bizarre how Barton again becomes the standout figure to blame. By all accounts he was poor but so was everybody else.
Sorry, but I simply cannot agree at all with that. It has be said as seen and Barton clearly was making no attempts to even approach balls that were clearly there for the taking.

We all know just about everyone was poor, but isn't about having a go at players for being poor, this is about talking of players who didn't even try.

I saw Barton and Tudgay both make no attempts to gain possession of the ball and this was not in tackling situations. This was clearly players making no attempt to try and how for the ball when it should have been theirs for the taking.

Bit of a mixed bag of opinions on Barton, but I thought Finch was worse on Sunday. Literally like watch Conor Thomas without the 5-10 yard pass.

They were both as bad as each other. Barton was woeful with and without the ball.

He shouldn't be scapegoated for Sunday however as apart from Maddison, martin (to an extent) and mcqoid/Allsop when they came on, the rest were a disgrace.

And I don't buy in to Barton being great since he came back in, he's had 1 or 2 good games with the ball but he's still been part of a weak midfield that give our back 4 no protection (add to that JOB, Thomas and Fleck).

Agree with this, Finch was dreadful but as he's one of our own and only young he'll avoid criticism. Only player who came out of Saturday with any credit was Maddison. Also, it's about time everyone on here stopped wetting themselves over Johnson, he's already let the team down on multiple occasions.

I think Finch is still at the point where performance can be forgiven, so long as he was putting the effort in at the same time.

If Maddison stood out as a small positive in that horror show though, that's promising.

SP has until the 27th of Nov to use the emergency loan market, after that it shuts until January.

Does anyone know how many loan signings we're allowed in 1 season? It used to be capped..

Yep, Finch tried, as did JOB and Reda and Maddison. Others though did not put in the effort and I am sure that is who Pressley is talking about here.

Would he still be able to sign free agents which if there are any good ones out there would be a better option but I don't think signing players is in the thinking at Sisu.

After everyone having a go at him for not recognising how bad things are, this should be a refreshing interview. That was exactly what I wanted to hear.

has he recognised how bad things are or squarely placed the responsibility on 3 or 4 players?

He can not ignore his part in this and there has been little recognition of that

Finch was poor I agree, but we have to look at him being young and hoping that he will improve, SP certainly sees something in him.

Barton on the other hand is relatively experienced enough to be a leader on the pitch and influence the younger players, which he was nowhere near doing on Sunday.

Pressley is losing the plot now. I am beginning to believe these rumours of him losing the dressing room are true.

You can't say that a lot of our players in our books are rubbish. They have performed well at other clubs.

I don't think Pressley has their backing.

Very worrying times,

Agreed about Johnson, I think for all the good he has done he has cancelled it out with his red card and penalty miss.

Again, this is not about players being any good or not, it's about players not trying.

100%..

I just said above, Nouble isn't the type of player who will run the channels, why do we expect that? Yes Nouble likes to drop deep and receive the ball and when he had the ball at his feet he at least kept it or gave it to a team mate which is all you could hope for!

It still baffles me why Nouble was substituted? We were going 1-0 down, why take off one of our best players and move an experienced youngster up front, giving us no outlet? It was a terrible decision and at that moment, the point I knew we wouldn't win the tie!

To be fair, it could have been anyone (with the exception maybe of Reda) they were all as woeful as each other.
Tactically though, it's usually a striker who is sacrificed in that scenario, surely?
SP must have thought, as many of us must have also, that even we, had the players from other positions capable of getting forward to score against opposition (No disrespect intended toward Worcester) of that calibre.

Yeah, definitely a mentality issue.

Doesn't matter because we sent Maddison up front an played 4-3-2 after the red card, could have easily taken off a midfielder and kept Jackson and Nouble up front

Personally I'd have taken Jackson off as he has offered us near to nothing this season

Good stuff from Pressley. Asserting his authority and putting the entire squad on notice, without singling anyone out. These are, after all, L1 players. If they get ejected by a struggling team in football's third tier, there's no certainty of them landing on their feet. As bad as CCFC may seem, playing at the Ricoh on decent wages is preferable to most of their other likely available options.

he also said this to the CET, which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread:

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley was furious at this morning's press conference unleashing his anger on his players after an 'unacceptable performance against Worcester City on Saturday.

Pressley said: "The truth is that certain players will be shipped out of the football club. An incident occurred after the game that told me everything about certain players at this club. And they will be gone."

Must have been some kind of rumble in the changing room afterwards by the sounds of that.

Or may be a lack of?

Maybe they were just sat there laughing away and joking, rather than being wound up about the result.

You don't think they were caught asking to swap shirts with the Worcester players do you? ;)

Yep, either that or he walked into the changing rooms and all the players were wearing party hats and doing a sing a long to 'Do you want to build a snowman' from the Disney film, Frozen.

Yeah, that would fit the bill too. If anyone's giving an air of the first round being beneath them or not giving a shit because of it that would be a lead balloon.

Think you will find the lead ballons were inside Marcus Tudgay's football boots.
