Am I surprised? No, he chose Swindon over us the last time we were in for him and I didn't expect differently this time.

Truth with Collins is, he scores goals from 8 yards out, he don't do much more. Needs it on a plate as well. I backed Northampton for the title in league 2 so when they signed Collins I saw a bit of him and he scored about 9 goals but every one was from about 2yards out. They had Ricky Holmes and John marquis doing the creative stuff and he finished it. Am I disappointed? Yes. Is there better out there available and willing for cheaper, almost certainly

For all those disappointed we've missed Collins, I say who cares....we'll finish above Luton and we'll score more goals than them, regardless of how many Collins gets. I have a good feeling about this one.

Beside himself to come here then.

Think he fancies Luton more than cov.

That said I think they are a better option for promotion than us currently but he could of swung that

Aren't mcnulty and the new Sutton guy supposed to be the powerful, strong in the air target men though? We need George Thomas /John marquis type tricky runners to compliment those two.

Personally, I'd offer G. Thomas a little more in his wage packet now.
Why do fans think we have any chance of keeping Thomas? If a host of premier league and championship want him, along with the wages that brings, then we have zero chance whether we want him to stay or not. Truth is he had half a good season and is replaceable right now.

It's all speculation so far regarding clubs higher up wanting him.
Agreed he had half a good season when played regularly and improved ten-fold, so for that reason I want him to stay.

I think 99% of us want George to stay and hope he carries on the form he found but the ball ain't in our court on this one. It's all his choice now

I think a few of the fan base may favour the reported 500k compensation fee in exchange.

I can see why, "if allowed" to reinvest back into the team then thats very handy to improve the current squad.

If you read the article he talks about the importance of being close to home. His preference was the city, obviously Crawley would not accept our offer. He was always going to move and I guess he heard that we would not meet the Crawley valuation and needed to make the decision to go to Luton. I don't think it's the end of the world, if we still have cash to play with I trust Robins to find the right player.

We all want him to stay but offering a few extra pounds isn't the clincher in this deal really is it? If he wants to go then there is nothing we can do about it.

There's no way a few extra quid would get close to what he would going into a Premier League U23 squad.

Exactly. Some fans seem to think they we should be offering what they can when firstly we cant afford to and secondly he isn't worth it anyway. The compensation figure quoted sounds realistic to me and I wouldn't object to that happening.

But if he's going i want it to happen now so MR can move on other targets.

So you do want him stay or not? I believe he is worth it, by offering him a better contract now.
We should be trying to keep our talent by offering contracts early, but GT bloomed late on in the season as he was inconsistent at the start and I for one never thought he would make a footballing career, but I was proved wrong.

Maybe Robins didn't want to blow his load on 1 player.

It's not as simple as offering a new contract.
We cannot offer what he can get higher up the leagues and we cannot break any possible wage caps at the club just to try and secure him.
It upsets the balance of the group and others will want new deals and gives players more power to negotiate when renewing contracts.

then when you have guaranteed first team appearances, how can you guarantee if his form dips and Vincenti is doing better than him for example?

He's our best player, he deserves a better contract than most. If he doesn't wanna stay and wants to go higher up, good luck to him, he'll earn even more.

How do you know MR has guaranteed anyone first team apps? It's a squad as far as I'm concerned and players gotta battle for first team places and I reckon MR prolly thinks that way too and hasn't guaranteed anyone a place and btw that's just football if someones form dips.

Yes I do but he isn't worth the money some on here claim we should offer him.

All this talk of Collins being a 20+ goals a season striker, thought I'd check wiki to see his stats.

He's notched 20 once in 6 seasons where he's played 35+ games. Going on that I'm not sure we've missed out on the 20+ a season goalscorer he's been lauded as on here.

If we never had a bid accepted then talks with the player would of only been between his agent and us in regards to what he is on, what we could offer in additions and length of deal . So even if he wanted to come, without that agreement between the clubs we were never an option for him when it really came down to it.

Luton will compete agian this season at the top end of the table, he just adds to a decent squad for L2 for them.

No, thats a poachers job. A target man will work hard and be strong, hold the ball up and bring other players around him into play. And maybe chip in with a few headers from set pieces.
