Id be tempted to get another wide player with pace and good feet, and a more natural target man to give us another attacking dimension to what we have currently and also we'd need to replace the outgoing player who's gonna free up the wages to cover this.

That's in a ideal world but in all honesty I very much doubt we've enough room to manoeuvre to manage half of that. So with a bit of luck MR will find the right formula/players to mix it up if we have too with another loan or two likely to come in next week

Can Duckens Nazon fill that wide role? if he can I'd still bring in another striker as I feel we need a clinical finisher rather than a target man.

Apparently he can play anywhere across the front line, so yep.

Nazon can play that role for sure, I just feel we're quite narrow as a side and would like a few extra options. JJ will be in and out of form as he's young so will need taking out the firing line.

I think McNulty will get goals if we get the ball and players into the box more, just need to get the build up play neater and more disciplined. Still early days there.

Do we really need that? We have Nazon and Jones for pacey, direct wide players. If anything, Baker would add something a bit different.

I can sympathise on one level about the target man, but I don't think it's a necessity and we've got 4 1st team strikers. That's without including Ponticelli, who with time, will be introduced in time I think.

I think Ponticelli might well prove to be key for us this season, even if it's just coming on as a super sub.

Yes we've JJ and Nazon, but that's it really. JJ has bad habits and a element of predictability to his game but can have that flash of magic we want him to perform with every touch. Reality is he's still young and still developing his game so like we found with AA we cannot hinge our hopes of a top 7 finish solely on him. He needs support, Nazon will provide that but another set of legs wouldn't go a miss in my eyes.

A natural target man will give that extra plan to revert to in the 80th minute if we're chasing a game in my eyes. Plus added to the fact McNulty has previously enjoyed a season or two playing off a big man which has been his best scoring spells.

It's about adding strings to your bow, and yes we've various options with Beavon, McNulty, but then we're looking at Biamou who's needs time to adapt, kwame Thomas who's has his fitness to prove and then Ponticelli who's not quite yet ready at this moment in time.

Football is a game of opinions of course, that just my view currently.

The only way I'd see us taking baker is if Stevenson is sold and we use him in a more central role, baring cup competitions injuries/suspensions.

I do think there is more business to be done and Robins did hint at more leaving the club.

Still think we need another 'provider' who can also chip in with goals, from what I have seen of McNulty so far he isn't having that many chances, he has scored a couple of penalties pre season and that farcical goal against Grimsby, but maybe thats because we are lumping the ball 2 yards over his head all the time, but its all still early days the players are getting to know each other and playing together takes time

I've a name to throw forward. TW was at Pompey watching there u23 game last week, possibly watching baker, or possibly watching a striker yet to feature this year called Curtis Main. A powerful striker not prolific but gets goals and could be the perfect foil for McNulty.
Possibility...

I don't disagree with you, I just think you're being too idealistic - how many options do you think a L2 team can have? We've already got a massive squad... Biamou is supposed to be a physical striker you describe, he hasn't really demonstrated that yet unfortunately!

I think Andreu and McNulty will link up well - they played together in a Scotland. Both have good scoring records.

We already have, as you're describing Andreu... That's what he was signed for at least.

Problem with our team is we only really have one creative spark who will drive at defenders. When Jones was kept quiet on Saturday we had nothing else. Baker would offer something a bit different and take a bit of pressure off.

Vincenti has been signed for that - and it seems Nazon could provide that kind of threat too....

What the hell has happened to our local paper that this is the sort of rubbish that is now considered a story?

is baker not playing league 1 matches for them?
90 mins against Rochdale 2-0 win (according to my Pompey supporting mate playing centre mid which seems odd), came on for last 20 mins in 3-0 loss to Oxford, not in the squad for 1-1 draw with Walsall.

From what my mate says the fans aren't best pleased with the manager saying they need Baker and he seems to be going out of his way to piss him off after keeping him when he had other offers.

Well mannered response, fair play... maybe it's a little idealistic but I'd say it's not beyond the realms of possibilities. Kwame Thomas could go out on loan freeing up some income to bring a target man type in on loan or a free transfer deemed surplus by his current club.
Biamou looks like he's gonna need time, if that's weeks or months who knows. And I agree Andreu will create for sure which McNulty has showed his movement is good enough, just needs to display that killer finish now which I think will come.

Losing Stevenson for Baker would be a regressive move

I agree, however Stevenson has value albeit that's likely to have fallen to January's valuations but that's the only way I can see Baker coming back here. He's unlikely to come to play 15/20 games. He's gonna want to play more often than not.

Quite clearly they either have a Baker Obsession, or fuck all else to write (or should I say right, or is that Wright)
