Benjamin Zephaniah was a real inspiration. I remember John Peel used to play recordings of BZ reciting his own poetry back in the late 1970s on his 10pm radio 1 show
He left school at 13 and couldn't read nor write which made his achievements all the more astonishing.
A really sad day. RIP Benjamin.

Mid 80s our English teacher at Caludon was friends with him and he came in and did a reading and a talk. Was a really nice bloke.
Miss Grice was the Teacher in case anyone remembers her!!

Didn't think I knew him until I saw the photo. Being the creature of culture that I am, I know him from Peaky Blinders!
