Fleck, Barton, Thomas (2 Viewers)

These three were all very higly rated and scouted regularly by the top four Premier league clubs. At what point do City stick their neck out and back up their investment by giving them opportunity to develop in the first team? We are in L1 after all!!!!!

Arguably, this SHOULD be our midfield three:

-------Thomas--------
Barton----------Fleck

Thomas should be the ball winner with Fleck as the "quarterback" with the passing ability and vision, Barton should be getting up to support the striker and chipping in with goals from the edge of the box.

I'd like to see us try and get the best out of these guys, especially as they are likely the players that will be here for the next few years. I reckon Wood, Sheff and Baker will be off next year due to FFP rules

Well they're all better footballers technically than Bailey, Jennings and Moussa, but 2 out of 3 completely lack balls, graft, determination-and pace. The other one seems to have gone completely missing...whatever happened to Connor Thomas?

I think with two quick wide men and a striker that can play as a lone striker and that could work. We need to get back to passing the other team off the park and hitting through balls for a striker to run onto (like we did with DMG).

The problem is for me, we have had to change our game to suit Clarke upfront and it is not working for us......

when have Chelsea, Utd, City and Spurs been scouting these three???

Fleck was being scouted by Man Utd, Barton by Liverpool (ok, admottedly not top four anymore ;)
) and Thomas was being escorted on and off the pitch at U18 games away from all the scouts and agents from the top clubs, I think Rioch even mention Man U, Man City and Liverpool at some point.

Liverpool looked at Thomas and said no thank you,

Liverpool could have signed Barton for 100k in the summer - they didn't

Man utd could have signed fleck for free in the summer - they didn't.

Liverpool signed Thomas on loan.

Liverpool were interested in Barton before a massive injury.

Man U were scouting Fleck when he was 16-17.

"WERE" is the word in my post you seem to be ignoring.

All i'm saying is that the top club's scouts are very good and the liklehood is that these three can still be good players, certainly better than in a reserve team in a L1 side.

Let's face it, the current first team haven't been setting the world alight since Xmas. Time for some more radical changes.

Roll the dice......

The injury had no baring on liverpool interest in Barton, which is now an urban myth.

Stories abou their interest - Feb 2011

Bartons injury was feb 2012

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2106800/Adam-Barton-injured-rest-season.html

Liverpool had 2 transfer windows to sign Barton if they wanted him - summer 2011 and January 2012. They didn't.

should be a good team if cody keeps his form

You are mad. I genuinely don't understand fans calling for Cody. I'd love to be proved wrong, but he's had chances and not taken them. Clarke might not be perfect, but I swear he's scored more goals for Coventry than McDonalds managed since he arrived.

I clearly remember Barton being linked with Liverpool, £5m was mooted. I suppose he was comparable with Shelvey at his age?

Stupot, I guess you don't understand my point, I'm not trying to argue or be controversial.

I simply mean, the fact that they were scouted a lot by top scouts suggests they have potential to play at a decent level.

I haven't said those clubs wanted to sign them at any point, just that when you consider this it certainly lends weight to the notion that they have potential, the potential that I think could be realized at this level.
You see?

I agree with this thread, I hope the new manager picks them, at least I've them a chance, it'd be such a shame to see their talent wasted, Fleck, after all the grief he gets, still has more assists than any of our players bar Baker, who has played double matches, he and Barton have more goals than Sheff and Thomas was unlucky with injury but he hasn't even been coming on lately! Hopefully they get a look in and do well. Really annoyed Thomas isn't playing!

I don't even think Jennings nor Bailey nor Sheff are playing well enough to warrant keeping them out of the team whereas before they had been playing really well, enough to keep them out, it isn't the case no more!

No that daily mail story suggests £2.5m but PNE said £5m.

How often was Peter ndlovu going to sign or Liverpool for £2-3m which was a lot in those days?

Do you think we should swoop for joe skarz from bury?

I haven't seen him play, I don't know who he is either?

What position and why do you think we should swoop for him?

He's top of their assist league.

He's top of their assist league.

I doubt he'd be available for a loan, free, or nominal fee, so no, we couldn't sign him. It would also depend if he'd actually add anything to the side and numerous factors.

Didn't see the point of your post tbh.

There some guy at Hartlepool with 10 assists why about him?

The point is that us your constant argument about fleck.

My point is, so what.

Ok, well assists are important, are they not? The way you and others go on about Fleck and Barton you'd think they had 0 goals and 0 assists between them, but, they don't, they have made contributions to the team.

If anyone would improve the team then I'd sign them. I don't know how these players would do that at CCFC but if improved us, I'd be all eyes and ears.

Hasnt fleck got more assists and same goals as mcsheffrey in less games? Barton has a couple of goals too and hardly played?

He hasnt been given a proper chance. He's hardly played this season and he;s scored 1 goal less than Elliott. He's regained his fitness and his form, so if we dont start him, he'll lose his form

Double the goals of McSheffrey ;) with 2

Weren't McSheffrey suppose to score 10-15 goals this season? :thinking about:

What is the obsession with constantly criticising our own players? What happened to backing the squad? We are supporters after all.

Hasnt mcsheffrey got 2 as well? I think barton is on 2 as well?

In the league he's got 1, he scored v Morecambe in the FA Cup and Barton has got 3 blockbuster goals. Deano, get them in your film night! I was only counting League, sorry.

If I remember right rightly fleck and barton were also going to score 10-15 each this season, yet haven't managed to cement a place in the starting 11.

I'm sure you'd have included the cups had fleck scored in them....

Are you related to him?

No I wouldn't have, league is where I use all of my stats.

If I did use them and the situation was the other way round, you and Grendel would point to the fact it was against Morecambe...

Anyway, with cups, Fleck has more assists and same amount of goals in even less games, so that's a flawed argument you have.

Sheff has 29 (7) appearances in all competitions, 5 assists (all in league), 2 goals (1 in league, 1 in FA Cup)
Fleck has 18 (14) appearances in all competitions, 6 assists (all in league), 2 goals (2 in league)
