Strange I seem to remember there were - coincidently - FIVE interested parties at the time, although only one were named publically: Manhattan Sports Capital. After five or six visits to Coventry and talks with the Council they decided to pull out. The main reason Fletcher resigned, I seem to recall.

In October 2007, Ranson attempted to take over Southampton on behalf of hedge fund company SISU;[9] however in December 2007 Ranson completed a deal to take over Coventry City, with just 30 minutes before the club was set to go into administration.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Ranson#cite_note-10

Who was the "Big Gob" who said...quote"Anyone can say they are interested, even I could say that"unquote......Oh Yes!!! it was a certain "TORCHOMATIC":claping hands::claping hands::claping hands:

Sorry, I'm struggling to see what your point is here. You said no one else was interested at the time, I said I reckon there were five - though it may have been less, although one was definitely Manhattan Sports CApital.

And yes it was me who said anyone can say they are interested, which they can. So what's your point?

TWO American and two UK investors are believed to be behind four takeover bids for the Sky Blues.

Manhattan Sports Capital Partners will be among the bidders finally making an offer, but Coventry City is remaining tight-lipped about the other three.

The Telegraph understands two of the bids are from American investors, including Manhattan, while the other two are from UK parties.

The confirmation of four separate bids is encouraging news and comes as the Sky Blues top the Championship.

The offers are being seen as progress in a long-awaited deal to help the club turn around its finances which are pounds 35million in the red.

A club spokesman said: "Coventry City already has one offer on the table which is presently being considered.

"We hope to have a total of four offers, including one from Manhattan Sports Capital Partners.

"Negotiations are still happening and, hopefully, by next week, we will know a bit more."

Sky Blues fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the offers will lead to a multimillion pound deal.

Such a deal is likely to free up cash for Iain Dowie to sign expensive new players as the club leads the race for promotion to the Premiership.

But after ongoing speculation and delays about takeover talks, some Sky Blues fans remain cautious about the latest development.

One user of the Telegraph's website forum said: "Can we actually finally believe that a takeover is on the horizon?"

One said: "Don't hold your breath" while another said: "Obviously, something is happening. However, the situation is so confusing."

But a more optimistic fan wrote: "We are in a better position for a takeover now than when it all started. We have the best manager outside the Premiership and we are top of the league."

Some fans are calling for more information about the bidders.

But Natalie Cox, of supporters' club the Sky Blue Trust, said they should respect their sensitive and confidential nature in the best interests of the club.

She said: "The people who are making the bids don't want any publicity or it made public knowledge and we want the club to conduct itself in a proper manner."

She added: "Supporters don't need to worry about the politics, we just need to get behind the team Iain Dowie picks each week."

I have no idea what the football league would do, but they wouldn't take kindly to cheating the system. It is also encouraging spending beyond our means, where we really need to focus on becoming sustainable.

What happens if we got promoted doing that? Would we have to invest more 'sponsorship' along with funding losses to stay up, or push for promotion?
But you have to compete and the whole thing will fail if you can't and that includes wages. There are loads of ways around that. For example as poor as we are we can sellmore season tickets than Crewe Alexanders ground holds, does it mean we have more income than they do so therefore can pay higher wages and attract better players, i don't think so. Eventually you would just have a league pyramid based on attendances and TV appearances.

There's competing and there's spending above you means and becoming reliant on an owner to fund you. That is the main reason for FFP to reduce clubs reliance on rich owners.

At the end of the day, whatever HP4 or any other buyer puts in, they will want their money back eventually.

Randy Lerner spent big at the villa under O'neil but is now being far more prudent, which is one of the reasons they are so close to relegation.

I for one, don't want to ever be put in this position again, and I certainly don't want another owner to saddle us with debt like we are now. If this is a clean slate, we should piss it all up the wall.

And to be honest, if those 20k missing supporters turned up on regular basis we would have the increased revenue without the need for te owners to prop us up.

I think it is actually impossible for ACL to play a blinder. They are constantly on the back foot because they have a venue which is suitable for only one potential tenant.

In fact SISU engineered the admin of CCFC Ltd from the outset by not paying rent. ACL exist only if income is generated by the stadium. They had to take CCFC to court. it was their only recourse.

SISU are playing the blinder.

yep suitable for one tennant BUT suitable for many uses as has been said a million times before.

we all know ccfc need to own the ricoh, just hope ph4 is checked out more thouroughly than sisu. it quickly became evident sisu were here just for the ricoh.

i still feel there are more twists and turns yet and mr appleton isnt influenced by sisu

It's called "Counting your Chickens before they hatch" but it's more than likely that MSCP, Alki David and Dhinsa all dropped out for the same reasons and that was probably the ownership structure of the Ricoh..

Torchy said that anyone can be interested and that's confirmed, so I have to ask, How come's every time someone has a differing opinion than yours SBK you have to resort to name calling?

Its a bit childish and implies a deeper meaning to your forum name..

Building work on a new station at the Ricoh – for football fans, concert goers and visitors to the Arena Park shopping complex – was due to start in December 2012 and be completed this December. It is not now expected to open until autumn 2014.

That says 1 year late to me, the major part of the delay is another part of the project.. disapointing but not as bad as some are gleefully making out.

Even the train station is 2 years late.
I'm impressed.

I don't see Grendel's joy in the situation myself.. I don't expect a rational or reasonable explaination from him.
