Typical of the dribbling europhiles that they are pleased some peasant country in Eastern Europe qualified at the expense on one in the United Kingdom.

I just have a grudge against Wales. ;)
Think I have mentioned before, I have a Welsh auntie (married my dad's brother) and she is practically foaming at the mouth when Wales play England. My mum and dad are both 87 and they ring her once a week. When it's England v Wales she is quite nasty and very bitter and my mum and dad, who are both really lovely and humble, get rather upset with it.

I also recall going to a pub in Wales once and as soon as they found out we were English they immediately switched to talking Welsh.

Then to top it off. I had a Welsh boss for 15 years. He was the most spiteful, vicious, nasty, arrogant man I have ever come across in my life. In fact, there were 5 Welsh people there and all of them to a man were vile. Spiteful, sarcastic, moody, grumpy, aggressive and mean.

Don't want to dislike them, but they give me no choice. ;)

I also worked for an Irish company and they were the friendliest firm I have ever worked for.

The Wales vs Republic of Ireland game has everything that England games lack: Passion, Commitment and Excitement.
It's just a pity that Bale is not playing.
And a team in the finals, just popular to hate England and say they're rubbish, buy truth is we qualified with a game to go and likely to be the only home nation in Russia.

so
Bale out of the world cup
Messi - Argentina are only about 50:50 to qualify
Ronaldo - Portugal have to get through the play offs

so could be a world cup without any of them

Wow! So three world class players missing, but we will still of course have Jordan Henderson there.

And Gunnarsson possibly Michael O'Neil too.

Great place Riga. Loads of English here and had the same idea as us. Good proportion are staying on for the game later. Judging by ticket sales we could outnumber the supporters of the two countries playing!

agree, the game last night was just two poor sides playing each other where most of the players play in our leagues. I hate this automatic hate for England (mostly from our fans to be honest). I don't hate Scotland, Wales or Ireland for that matter, for me they also mean nothing!

Also had similar at a pub in Monmouth many years ago. Eight of us on a golfing trip - so quite respectable - went into the pub early doors and saw the dart board was empty. While we were at the bar, about half a dozen names were suddenly chalked up and we were then kept waiting for half an hour by the locals who were just pratting about. When the dart board eventually cleared, we ordered another round of drinks and then left.

Went there on my stag in June. Absolutely loved it. Rock Cafe is a classic!

I must say, having lived all over Europe, the women there are another level. Quite astonishing actually.

Also don't get why English fans hate Scotland/Wales/N.ireland. It's like hating a disabled sibling.

I want them all to do well and qualify - I was hoping Wales would win it last year once England were knocked out. Would have probably travelled down to Cardiff for the final.

No different to disliking Villa, Wolves or Leicester. A lot of them don’t want us there either.

Went to watch the basketball last night. Bit odd seeing James Anderson, Alexey Shevd and Thomas Robinson playing in front of about 600 people. Shevd’s on 3.5m! Went to the Fox afterwards. Kiwi’s earlier too.

Although it would’ve been great for them I’m pleased Syria are out. Imagine them getting together with their mates from Russia next Summer. Carnage.

Agreed. Sad people.

I don't care for any of them either - I wanted Leicester to win the league in their title-winning season too.

IMO it was a bit pathetic wanting Leicester to lose out on the title because of some manufactured, half-arsed rivalry that neither team really cares about.

After a bit of consideration I didn’t want them to win it as I feared we’d never hear the end of it and from my experience I’ve been proved right. That and I backed Spurs early on in the season to win it.

I backed Spurs too. I liked the way they tried to play football.

Well the USA has failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.
They lost 2-1 away to Trinidad and Tobago, who are not the walkovers you might imagine.
They conceded an unfortunate own-goal very early on and then a long range shot, a la Roberto Carlos, deceived Tim Howard.
They pulled one back in the second half, then had 3 or 4 more good chances and hit the post twice but could not get an equalizer.
All they needed was a draw.
But what really did them in was the two teams who had already qualified, and thus played weakened teams, were playing their two main rivals.
Both teams who had already qualified were beaten and their opponents leap-frogged over the USA.

I'm sure Trump will post an outraged tweet about it.

Were the Mexicans involved?

Good news is that without the USA qualifying advertising revenue is expected to be considerably lower starving those parasites at FIFA of revenue.

Well in a way, they had already qualified and so played a weakened team; they lost and their opponents leap-fogged above the USA.
I'm sure Trump has zero interest in the sport.

Play off draw.

Northern Ireland v Switzerland

Republic of Ireland v Denmark

Croatia v Greece

Sweden v Italy.

Played over two legs.

Not a bad draw for the Irish teams and what a mouth watering prospect for the last tie.

Tough tie for N Ireland, Swiss were leading their group most of the way. No tie will be easy but I would have picked Greece to play!
