Early 60s before Bill Glazier was a character called Arthur Lightening- may not have been all time best but add his skills to his character and you have a great goalie

My Granddad always used to rave about Arthur Lightening as the best he'd ever seen.

We've been lucky to have had so many good ones Wesson, Glazier, Sealey, Blyth, Oggy, Westwood, Murphy and must just mention Bywater & Fullop.
However for me when we were at the bottom of the pile Division 4 one name stood out, Arthur Lightening! ⚽️ Hero

Despite the controversy around him and his last home game in his first stint here few give Les Sealey much recognition.

He was a very capable keeper. Always committed and had a successful career on his departure.

Also worth mentioning Perry Suckling. Why, I suppose, I found it amusing that people cite youth for the likes if Lee Burge. Thrown into the first team at 18 years old and played a part in keeping the club in the top flight. Unbelievable really.

Don't know the answer to that, Grendel, but for me he was 10 times the keeper Oggy ever was and so much more.

Such a tragedy that he had the likes of Gordon Banks playing in the same era, otherwise he would have got a lot more England caps

The bloke was just brilliant and more often than not you would see him catch the ball at full length, none of this palming the ball away stuff.

Bill Glazier was being talked about as being Englands keeper but he broke his leg and was out for a year.He played at Under- 23 level though.

Although Oggy got my vote, I thought Kirkland was exceptional when he burst into the side in the relegation season. Always rated Westwood too. Shame neither stayed at the club longer.

I have a further confession to make too, which just compounds my ignorance.

When I put Glazier I didn't even put a decade, cos as I said, I hadn't read the instructions and then when Lee put a reminder just a while back stating 'don't forget the decade' that's all I read of that post too, so I simply went back to my Glazier post and edited it to put (60's), as Glazier played in the 60's.

It's a double whammy of ignorance!!!

Like others have said Bill Glazier was a brilliant keeper, and he was capable of some unbelievable saves. He as much anyone was responsible for our 25 match unbeaten run that led to our fantastic promotion to the promised land. Unfortunately witnessed his terrible leg break at Maine Road, from a truly awful challenge from I think Glynn Pardoe.
However Oggy's incredible consistency over many years when he almost single handily kept us in games, probably just shades it for me. One thing we have always been blessed with over the years ,is pretty good goalkeepers, mind you they have always had plenty of practice.

Three candidates Reg Matthews, Bill Glazier would have been number 2 to Banks in our World Cup winning team or Steve Ogrizovic. Matthews got 5 full England caps on the trot as a third division player and Oggy arguabley the best uncapped goalie of his era. Difficult choice but I go for Bill Glazier 60s/70s
