The notion that Walsall fans were mad for thinking they could beat us goes to show that some already considered us Champions elect and after a fee months of good football we had suddenly become the Barcelona of League 1. Some of the comments to both Walsall and Burton were incredibly disrespectful and would have provided their fans with a good laugh.

And no other fans have done that to us?
TM commented before the game yesterday that we must be patient, this appears to have been taken negatively by the team, to the point of over cautiousness. I believe this wouldn't have happened if we were in a position to field our strongest or nearly strongest defence. We are quite capable of beating both Walsall and Burton, of that I am sure.

I know, but with half a season left you would beams to think they won't slip up. It is also about staying in touch and keep them looking over their shoulder. Then with two games to go they may feel it is theirs to give away and that is when teams often falter.

We have work to do for sure, but we need to remain positive. Once you accept you are 4th best that is what you will be.

In theory yes. But you are ignoring the facts and the maths: If we win every game until the end of the season we will not be automatically promoted if the current top 2 do the same. It IS in their hands and theirs to lose.
I'm not saying that's going to happen, just that at the moment, those are the facts.

If our form from the last couple of months continues we will win 4 more games over the rest of the season. We would be looking good if we won the last 2 games but taking 1 point means our overall form is terrible. Over the last 10 games we're 13th in the form table having picked up the same number of points as Fleetwood. If we lose to Southend and the teams below us win and win their games in hand we will be 1 point above 7th.

We HAVE to improve our form drastically, to get autos we will need to be the best team in the division for the rest of the season which I don't think we will be. We should make playoffs still but it's going to be close now and with the quality of teams in the top 6 I don't see us going up. Since Gillingham we've not been good, we've also not generally been bad but thats not good enough to gain promotion.

This should be our season but unless we improve drastically we're going to be bitterly disappointed

Actually I think you are right. Bradford have 3 games in hand over us, if they won all 3 + on Saturday and we lost, they would be above us. Peterborough would be 7th in the same circumstances, 1 point behind us

Yes, we have to improve our form, but the annoying thing is we are not that far away. Late goal by Oldham at home and Walsall scoring with just 10 mins left, same too with Sheff Utd. It's fine margins.

We either need to be able to see games out or finish teams off.

Not sure too much needs adjusting. I'm hoping Lorentzson and Rose can make some impact and hopefully Stephen Hunt will improve us too.

Think the trouble at the moment is:

Injuries in the heart of defence.

Inexperience at the back.

Inconsistency from the likes of Murphy and Lameiras and Kent when he was here too.


The consistent performers we have had this season have been Vincelot, Fleck, Ricketts, Armstrong, Martin, Stokes. Possibly JOB too, though he hasn't been as effective as in previous seasons. Obviously we have now missed Martin, who was very consistent this year.

Anyway, instead of maybe 5 regulars giving consistent performances, we need to increase that to 7 or 8. You have 8 consistent performers and then is is easier to accommodate the likes of Maddison or Lameiras or Murphy.

Think Hunt and Cole should give us that and I am hoping Lorentzson is a steady Eddie too.

Maybe this Hooi will give us fresh impetus too if we decide to go with him.

I don't think it would take much to improve our fortunes for sure.

Come the end of Jan, I don't think the other 4 clubs around us will have the same squad they do now (possibly with exception of Wigan) - players like Dack, Bradshaw, Sawyers could well move to a higher league - the same won't happen to us.

How do you figure that out? Fleck could well go and the others are as likely to let their players go as we are of letting Maddison go. We're totally in the same position as the other clubs...if they or we get a good offer for one of our better players, then they'll be sold.

Just because we're Coventry City doesn't mean we won't lose players whilst others do. Strange thing to say unless I've misunderstood?

I agree that we're not too far away and that is one of the most frustrating things. We've blown teams away this year without breaking a sweat and can easily be the best team in the division on our day. I think Mowbray has bought in players like Cole and Hunt to give an experienced head to all of our youngsters but what we really need is players in their prime who, while possibly not being the best players, can give us a 7/10 week in week out. Vincelot being the perfect example of this, he might not be the best player in the league but he does his job well and does it every week. If we had more of him then we could have a more solid starting 11, like you said.

The thing we're starting to loose is time, continue this vain of form for another few weeks and we'll be lucky to even make playoffs. We have to beat Southend and then go on a run, we need to be winning as many games as possible as soon as possible.

That's true.

I'd still be surprised if either go up automatically mind you, and amazed if they both do.

Shame it's against us, as I'm all for the little clubs punching above their weight - and Burton in the second tier would be superb.

You'd expect, however, Wigan to come through, and then there's a space open for someone else. Now of course Burton are flying atm, but if they hold on it really is a massive achievement given the size of their club and size of their squad.

Stagnate building momentum. As much as we might be surprised to see Burton up there they are well drilled and organised.

Don't underestimate their skill in quick passing which they demonstrated in the kick in to a much faster pace than ourselves. Shooting they went throughout the whole team netting superbly bar one. They aren't just big cruisers.

Let's not forget last season they were at the top and got promotion. So they might be the last side to get a nose bleed.

I suspect most teams have similar thoughts - relief that Wigan have misfired a bit, and expectation that the lack of a standout squad in the division gives a chance for their own team's success.

Yes, true statistically they are in a better position than us but with 19 games to play there are still a lot of twists and turns and variable yet to come into play. There are still 4 months of the season left, the points difference could easily be wiped out over a 2 week period. A lot can happen over 19 games.
