Tudgay was far and away our best player at Southend for the 45 minutes he was on the pitch so I think it would be seriously unfair to place two yoof teamers ahead of him. Also, he's barely played of late so to say he's offering nothing is absurd. He's offering all you can offer from the sidelines.

You say that but TM obviously doesn't think so & he sees them in training all the time. If he thought either one of them was ready, he would surely pick them no.

Well, it's time he took the MAF-tinted goggs off, methinks. Tudgay is underused and I wouldn't be surprised if he retired.

Youth is the way forward, and the hunger of our two young forwards should make a difference.

Can't comment on Saturday but whenever I have seen him come on for little bits this season he has always done what he has had to. It is usually winning headers, holding the ball up and laying it off and then running into the box!

Yep, he does what it says on the tin, so to speak. He's a useful player, either as a striker or a second striker, good in the air and strong on the ball. Shame TM has nearly no confidence in him.

We still need a nasty bastard up front though, a real bundle of horribleness, like a Dean Windass-type forward or a...*cough* Leon Clarke...

Armstrong has come from a youth team of a premiership outfit, we have a lad who is in a youth team of a 3rd division outfit, do you not think there will be a slight bit of difference in terms of talent?

Is Maddison applicable to that logic?

Talent is talent, doesn't matter what Division it hails from. Who's to say Sambou isn't a future goal-scoring regular?

Well considering Mowbrey has been prepared to play the likes of Stokes, Armstrong, Murphy, Maddison and Kent....you would think he is pretty capable of deciding when somebody is ready.

No, Maddison is good enough, Mowbray and his staff deem Bassala as not good enough yet... So simply stating he is worth a go, what have we got to lose, he is the same age as Armstrong etc is not good enough. I would hope that a bit more thought goes into our play and squad.

I guess my own mentality of youth over bench-warming contract-sitters isn't applicable. Point taken.

As I have stated would you rather bring on Maf or an unknown in Sambou...it may not work same as Maf but equally it may just work as a stop gap before TM identifies another striker to bring in

I agree, mate, I'd rather give the young lads a run out instead of MAF.

And having one of our own thro the ranks just somehow feels so much better

I couldn't agree more...but the timing needs to be right. Next year seems to be more likely pre season for him and Thomas.

Lets loan Bassala to Arsenal and keep recalling him for youth cup games

But that's the point i keep making. Sambou isn't Unknown to TM and he deems him not to be ready/good enough & that's his job & what we pay him for

Bassala might be promising, but considering our relative lack of goals of late (take away his goals at Crewe and Armstrong is really struggling), it's a big ask for him to come in with the expectation that he'll hit the ground running. Wait for the (hopeful) upturn in form and introduce him when we're winning games.

Why take away the Crewe goals?

Its like people stating earlier on in the season - Where would we be in the league if you take away our first 4 games?

No, he's got a point. If every goal of Armstrong's had hit the post or been saved he wouldn't have any goals at all!

He's scored in two of his last 10 games.

I don't care. The fact is that Armstrong isn't scoring regularly now like he was earlier on this season. He's failed to score in 7 of his last 8 games.

Because in the last 10 games the Crewe game has been the exception rather than the rule. Only 6 goals in the other 9 games. There has been a general feeling that we've struggle to create and score goals, which Crewe aside is evidenced.

Well I said at the time of the Crewe game, that there were some very bad errors by Crewe that though not gifting us goals, certainly gave us relatively easy chances on goal, the two Armstrong ones from open play in particular.

Crewe's defence were awful so that does need to be taken into account.

From what I have seen the problem is the providers rather than the goal scorer. Every time we have come close to scoring it has been long range from outside the box. Armstrong seems left to try and conjure up his own chances.

Yep, it's the service to Armstrong rather than Armstrong himself. If he was missing stacks of chances then it would be different, but we're hardly giving him the ball in good positions at all.

I suppose, but my point stands. Armstrong is struggling and so would Bassala at the moment. Classic SBT to pick up on one line out of context.

That's a fine reason not to bring a young untried kid in though, and tar him for life as being unable to score.
