Platt and communication problems (2 Viewers)

OK playing out wide may not be his (McDonalds) game, but I still expect a player to be able to close down and show a little bit of workrate. Yes he was meant to be doing some defending when asked to fill in that role, but he was about as effective as a traffic cone. He just couldn't be bothered most the time, was strolling about, and had his hands on his hips a la Eastwood.

I think Platt is my new favorite player  Talked complete sense throughout that interview. And looks to be a good player this year (never thought i'd hear myself saying that)

My thoughts on Cody are that he is a fox in the box type of player and he contributes very little to our all round play. Like otis says the highlights of his goals shows he cones alive in the 6 yard box but we don't get enough crosses into the box.

He is a luxury player - We're literally carrying him for 95% of the game the ball isn't in the oppositions box, which makes it hard when you under the cosh. I actually thought this of him every game i've seen him play. What makes it worse is that at least 2 other of our players are also passengers and it impossible to play well when your carrying so many players.

I think I'm coming around to the platt and juke partnership, at least you know the ball will be held up if we knock it forward.

Really like what Platt has to say. Platt/Carsley dream team if Thorn goes anyone?

He may not have the greatest skills but he obviously has listened when people were talking to him.

The slagging off of McDonald is a bit mysterious to me.

Yes him and Juke were far apart, but Juke said that was mainly tactics, as they believed they could get success down the sides of the Southampton Centre backs.

And when he was moved out onto the left, there were several times he chased back and covered Christie if he had gone forward

I didn't think McDonald was poor. Just anonymous.

Did Juke really say that about the tactics? If so, that's exactly what I've been bleedin banging on about these past few days!!!!:D

McDonald doesn't suit our current style of play, players like Mcdonald need fast ball in behind to exploit open space on the counter attack. We allow the opposition time to get bodies behind the ball so there is very little space for any of our players.

It's odd really because that's what our formation craves. Get the ball to the ACM who can dink in a ball over the top for Cody to run onto. For me, this would be a perfect role for Clingan - at the tip of the diamond. A player with his passing range can either play that ball over the top for Cody to latch onto, or have a pop himself - he's shown himself capable of doing so. Deegan and Thomas can then hold the defence.

Find it baffling too that we don't do this. McDonald is quick. Clingan can play accurate pinpoint passes. Doesn't add up.

The problem is clingan naturally drops deep, even when he played in a 442 he dropped deep. That is his comfort zone

So what you're saying is..he's one-dimensional?

My criticism isn't about anything other than his utter lack of application and effort. I watched him like a hawk Saturday, and as I kept saying, he was wandering around with his hands on his hips at walking pace-whilst Juke, for one, was sprinting to close down space.

What I am saying is this is how I believe we would get the best out of him and we should be trying to play to our players strengths not mould them into something they are not.

He's probably standing around with his hands on his hips because he is totally pissed off with the lack of service he's getting.
