Saying that what we are doing can be improved on is not a criticism.

I think the main things that needs to be improved on is the exposure of it and showing just how hard the volunteers work. There are young lads giving up their matchday to help the kids have fun. They aren't trying to justify supporting CCFC and I don't think they are doing it for marketing or to win over fans / parents, just because they want to help.

Do they have a donation bucket in the JSB zone? JSB's do run football sessions in school holidays. They also used to run a coaching session at Sidney Stringer before home matches. Not sure if they still do? I would happily volunteer time or money to assist current volunteers.

Would you need Wasps permission though still as it's their land? Also depending on what was put on, would you need certain licences?

I'm sure you'd need Wasps permission yes. And for events like this you'd need a temporary events licence obtained from the council so a fee not that big.

Think you raise a very valid issue CC4L ........ its about attracting and retaining the youngsters interest. Face painting is a start but giving the youngsters a taste of the sport in a fun safe way is the next step and will get the older kids more interested

This kids thing that Wasps did isn't for every game though is it? It was a special promotion for that game wasn't it?

They do utilise the Jaguar Hall on a number of matches though it would seem

It is all going to be down to finance and availability. It wont cost Wasps any more to use a free(unused) space they own. It will cost CCFC. Not sure CCFC could expect to get for nothing. Let alone paying for the stuff you are putting in there. Such events have got to be good for attracting families and the next generation of supporter. It is the sort of event CCFC should put on but maybe not every week. We have Legends Day why not have a family day with this kind of stuff provided.

Am I right in thinking the JSB match day events are self financing? Do the club pay for any of it? I know in the past the SCG have had a whip round to pay for things. Surely it is the kind of thing the SCG should be pushing the club to do and the club should pay for. Pat Raybould and her volunteers do a great job

just my tuppence.

i asked some of the staff and they said they do this alot for waspps game but never ccfc

mayeb it was extra big cos england playing scotland in rugby too though, not sure

IF we can do it we should, but it all comes down to £££ and permission

isn't the holiday football for kids run by sky blues in the community charity but they call it the jsb's ?

there needs to be funding for this kind of stuff, but more importantly joined up long term thinking and the will to follow it through .......... none of which has ever been a great attribute of CCFC over the years

Think you're right OSB but always considered them the same. To be fair though SBiTC do provide other things for adults as well as children. Another thing I suppose that doesn't necessarily get the money or attention it deserves.

Again, it doesn't get any attention at all. You can guarantee that it will be amazing if Wasps were to do half of what they do.

i did the SBITC course few years ago, it was good fun for few months before they set up a new 1 elsewhere and left everyone to just have a overcrowded unorganised 5 a side game. many quit then

probably due to funding again

I think the JSB membership is excellent, as is the match day zone.

One thing I wish the club would do though is subsidise merchandise for JSBs like they used to. It cost me £126 to get two kits for my daughters which is excessive to say the least. Many parents wouldn't/couldn't pay that sort of money.

My eldest wears her kit to football training at school, to slightly bemused looks (I'm guessing she's the first ever Coventry fan to have attended Southill School in Weymouth), and I like to think it is helping to develop a bond with the club that will remain with her forever.

PR at the club has been woeful for a long time. They keep saying they are doing something about it but somehow it stills seems uncoordinated and knee jerk.

For example the JSB's on the clubs own website have had no article since December 24 and a total of 8 articles in 2015 (four of those were in December) in 2014 there were 2 in total . If something is important to you surely you take time and effort to nurture it.

The JSB's are the potential future adult life long fans ................. are to put it bluntly future income. Don't just expect it to happen, especially in the face of financed and coordinated competition. In the scheme of things it doesn't cost or take much

On that note, if the JSBs / volunteers want a website I'd be happy to make them one :)

went to wasps game saturday :(

now hear me out lol. my little nephew for free ticket from school and was desperate to go as all his mates were. his dad was working so couldnt take him. he phoned and asked me to take him and i said no and his disapointment was heartbreaking! after a few hours i rang him back and said ok cos family is priority

anyway it was free schools ticket, said £0.00 so i didnt cotnribute any money towards them and didnt buy a drink either(althoguh it was tempting)

anywhoo reason i post is because of a few observations

*rugby is a truly boring sport
*the atmosphere is very kiddy and familyish, i mean a choir under scoreboards compared to singers corner lads lol
*half the fans dont even watch the game
*drum band is annoying

ok so thats all good, ccfc clearly has nothing to learn ont he pitch

BUT

their kids zone was freaking impressive! set up in jaguar hall they have indoor rugby pitch(and somehow no injuries!) a penalty kick section(i put one right down middle) a tug of war game,a tackling game, kids club sign ups etc

plus a live band al wearing wasps kit and 3 bars for men to watch big screen rugby ont elly

i gotta admit this was impressive and left me envious. this is what ccfc should be doing, securing fans of the future whilst also making football better for families(alot of women in kidz zone after with their kids)
would be nice after a win if perhaps everyone didnt go home and instead let their kids have some fun whilst they enjoyed a pint

on flip side footy atmosphere is hostile and many fans cannot handle drink so security may be required even in a kids zone but i think its something the club should look into even if they dont own ricoh. i havnt seen out current kids zone, anyone know what they do there?

all i know is my nephew said wasp games are more fun than ccfc games aint they? after i slapped him silly i realised why he may have said that though. we need tos tep up our game!

nick if you could refrain from moving this thread to wasps board for a few hours,as it is aimed at ccfc fans to see how we can improve matchday experience.

Funny how football managed to attract fans of all ages for years without this extra entertainment. Would rather the investment was made on the pitch. It's turd polishing for rugby which is a dreadful game to watch and a team that people have limited affinity with.

JSB membership is over 1000 now I believe. The Christmas party had hundreds of kids there (I was there with my boy and it was excellent).

The JSB matchday volunteers do a sterling job, but are limited to the area in the concourse. I fear too it would take a change to the rental agreement to be able to use the Jaguar Hall.

JSB membership is £20 and u12's get in free if you sit in the Family Zone with them - http://www.ccfc.co.uk/fans/junior-fans/

Do JSBs still do 'Saturday Club'? In the 90s when it first began, you could attend Saturday Club at Sydney Stringer or Ullathorne, play football from 9.30 til 1pm-ish and with a bus ride and ticket into the ground. It cost about £7.50 all in per child I think.

That's the thing, give them free tickets, put all of the fancy stuff on. Will they go if they have to pay and there's no fancy stuff?

Kids have too many choices these days.

In my day (60's) football was the only thing we had and match day was looked forward to as soon as we left the last match.
I could only watch ATV Sunday Football as MOTD was too late.
Every night was a game of footie in Liggins field.
Now with Play Stations, computers and phones, actually doing anything physical is a bind.

The problem is they are not.... the average age of the football supporter is now 41 years old, and that has dropped a little from 44. Football is fast becoming and middle aged spectator sport and very few clubs are doing anything about it. Big clubs use 95%+ of their seats so can price how they want. They don't want away fans because they don't spend in the club shop, they want home fans and Tourists who pay top dollar and buy merchandise. It is a big concern and starting to be debated as the atmosphere is being diluted by the Prawn Sandwich Brigade.

I think CC4L raised many valid points that football and many on here don't want to face. WASPS are doing this for the good of WASPS future. Kids in for free, parents often buy own tickets , kids by food cause they pester the parents , the same areas are full of people buy beer like it might be their last one ,all welcome, kids can run free and all have a good day out. .. kids then want to go again ad pester the adults to take them cause their mate is going. zero ticket income probably translates to at least a tenner because you are in and spending.

Also believe the WASPs equivalent of JSB is free

in no way should this be construed as criticism of the JSB or the fantastic Volunteers that want to see things improve and can see where tomorrow fans come from , but really, do they get the support they deserve?

That isn't building passionate Wasps fans though... That is giving them a free day out, free play area. They have to do that forever else they wont go.

They are taken to the match as well and a little bit of flag waving you start to develop a little bit of belonging.
Kitted out in your Wasps gear also helps and a few tries makes you think you could enjoy this.

If it works for me it could work for them ;)

It will work for some, but I see it all the time with people I know who will only go to city games or things if it is free or a fiver. They won't go when it is full price.

If Wasps / CCFC put on a fairground every game, give free tickets etc then people will only go because of the fair ground and the free tickets. Once they have to pay and there is no fair ground they won't bother.

I can see some fans will stick, but lots of people won't if they have to pay for it as they will want the big fairground, the free tickets.

Do the young kids see Wasps players as heros? Or do they see it as going to play on inflatables?

I think kids today see their heroes on TV.
Younger ones might see the local team players as heroes but probably wouldn't recognise them in the street.

It just be different at wasps.

in the 70s we had our bikes, football & maybe bin cricket in the summer.
Times change. Back then your mum used to kick you out the house in the morning and you would'nt come back til the evening.
try kicking a football in the street these days and you'll probably end up with the old bill getting involved!

Your probably see more kids stuff than me.
I avoid them :)

I did notice some Injured Wasps players in the hall on Saturday.
They were interviewed on stage and I would guess they mingled with the crowd before and after.
Judging by the size of them the kids would certainly look up to them ;)

I was at the Higgs after the party and can verify it was well supported. (No parking when I went to play football)

My mate's little lad loves Reda Johnson. He was gutted he weren't at the Christmas party. Sticks him up front on FIFA. Loves Pirlo too but that's because he met him, too young to know who he is otherwise. City players are heroes. James Maddison? Callum Wilson? Gary McSheffrey? There just local ones. Roland Nilsson? It's endless. That is because they have ties with the local area. Like it or not. That is the difference. Footballs a different sport. The fans have different personality traits. Rugby barring the odd player doesn't have heroes just very good players.

You saw it at the party, groups of kids with their mates. They would spot a player then go legging it after them.

Guys have got to lighten up about the Wasps. With all the bad feeling Council would only have sold to SISU in extreme circumstances

Premiership rugby in Coventry is brilliant and as my mate noted "the beer's better now a rugby club is in charge"

I'd like us to own, but that's not available. But it's better than what was the situation before

I've not trawled thro the thread so if this has all been said before sorry
