I like the look of a front 3 of Kane Rooney and vardy but I think Roy will play vardy as a sub

I'd definitely have Drinkwater in the squad, he has been awesome this season

Yeah, true and it has been our downfall before in picking 11 individuals, rather than a team. The Gerrard/Lampard combination rarely seemed to work.

Not sure on this one, but would like to see Barkley, Alli, Stones and Kane in for sure. Dier might well be a good call, if Alli is a cert.

Playing together at a club can really help at international level because you already have that understanding between you. That's why Kane is a good call too. Those 3 Spurs players know each other inside out.

Copied and pasted mine from the Sturridge thread. Based on now which imo is how it should be, as barring any injuries the squad for Germany and Holland should be is who is on the plane to France, I would pick:

Starting XI:
Hart

Clyne/Walker Smalling Stones Bertrand/Rose
Barkley Alli Henderson
Rooney
Kane Vardy

Subs:
Butland, Forster
Jones/Cahill
Dier, Milner, Albrighton, Drinkwater, Carrick
Walcott
Defoe

3 keepers, 7 defenders, 8/9 midfielders and 4/5 forwards. Would mean that Shelvey, Sterling, Delph and one of Jones or Cahill would miss out which admittedly is unlikely. I'm also leaning towards having Dier instead of Henderson.

Incidentally we had our payments taken from our credit cards (yep credit cards only, no debit cards allowed!) today for the tourney tickets. Will find out tomorrow what we've been charged for. Pretty hopeful of every game with my cap level. Anyone else apply?

He won't play vardy and Kane together up front, not the way Roy plays. He'll probably stick Rooney upfront, vardy on the wing and Kane in the bench. His tournament record with England is awful.

Drop Rooney. Play a young exciting team. Would rather see us go out early playing exciting attaching football than play it safe.

Had to give you a 'like' for including Defoe in your squad. Our best striker since Gary Lineker and sorrily underutilized. A bit past his peak but still capable of scoring fantastic goals.

Was at Swansea the other week when he scored a hatrick. With how he's playing atm it's difficult not to pick him.

Although I'd like to see us play a younger side I think Rooney is one of the old guard that we need to keep. He is someone that can win us a game out of nowhere even when he's played poorly.

Have to say our defensive options look pretty shite, can you imagine Spain or Germany coming up against Smalling and Jones

We saw what would happen in November. Germany will be another tough test next month.

Clyne Smalling Cahill Baines

Walcott Rooney Barkley/Alli
Kane

Would start with Vardy in the games where we want to sit back and counter, but all 3 group games are very winnable. Could be tempted to go with Milner ahead of Barkley/Alli against Wales to give the full back extra help against Bale

Hart
Clyne Smalling Stones Rose (Shaw *IF* in the unlikely event he gets up to full fitness before the tournament)
Dier Alli
Walcott Rooney Sterling
Kane

Subs
Butland
Forster
Walker
Cahill (could get a starting place now he's playing every game at Chelsea)
Jagielka
Baines

Carrick
Henderson
Barkley
Lallana

Sturridge
Vardy

Ross Barkley is a good player but he misses way too many chances. I'm still waiting for the next Gascoigne. I thought Wilshere was going to be it, but he isn't. There is no-one on the horizon. England only has two world-class players.

Rooney has never performed in any major tournament and I can't see him doing it in this one.

I'd go with Vardy and Kane up top. Defensively we're far from solid. Let's just try and outscore everyone. At the very least it may be enjoyable to watch.

4-5-1.... Pack the midfield and play on the counter attack.

Hart

Clyne Smalling Cahill Rose

Henderson Dier Alli

Sterling Kane Welbeck

So long as Rooney isn't in the starting line-up, I'll be happy. He never performs at major tournaments and will be a waste of space.
