Isn't deceiving the goalkeeper the entire point of scoring a goal?
That's not deception...it is putting the ball where the keeper cannot get to stop it. A 1 on 1 with the keeper may involve a bit of trickery...I'll grant you that

You get what I'm saying and rules change, think of our donkey kick, it was smart but then outlawed, for, ungentlemanly conduct I think.
It is currently legal to score a penalty that way, I'd rather they changed it.
It's a free world and I respect the opposite viewpoint but that is mine.
No fans were harmed in the posting of this opinion.

It wasn't ungentlemanly conduct - they ruled that Willie Carr had touched the ball twice (I presume the rationale was that he was touching it with both feet) before Ernie Hunt shot.

Debateable, as there were not two separate touches at different times, but that was what they decided.

Here's a scenario.
CCFC at Wembley in the Play off Final.,the opposition do the same as Barca and win promotion as a result.
Will we sit there sniggering and saying fair play, that's a wicked rule. That was so skillful.
Before the witty retorts fly in, we're going up auto's, the GK is shit at pens anyway and wouldn't save it, or the opposite etc etc.
It's a shitty rule.
That is simply an outpouring of anger at their own team having not been awake enough to prevent the thought even crossing the mind of the opposition.

This penalty taking method is actually giving a goalkeeper a bit more opportunity to get out off his line & narrow the goal making it less likely to concede a goal.

Rest assured, rather than attacking players practising taking this style of penalty - I think coaches will be making sure their defending players are at heightened awareness & alertness combat it should anyone have the nerve to try it.

I may have to change my mind as Adrian Durham has said it was disrespectful so I can't normally agree with him:whistle:

Send the keeper the wrong way and you've deceived him, same with a free-kick routine or just dummying a man, a lot of football is deception at its very core. You'd expect most people to not fart around and just shoot because you rarely get a better opportunity, but outside of encroachment I don't have a problem with it.

Nah...most keepers move before the ball is kicked on penalties...their deception is therefore their own

...and just to complete this thread; Suarez missed his 'conventionally' taken pen v Sporting Gijon this evening.

Good save by the keeper down to his right. Though he did move a bit early, the disrespectful b@$t/\rd...

He did miss, and Terry Gibson suggested he may have been better using the other method!

Incidentally, people have complained on this thread that Suarez was a foot inside the D when Messi took the penalty on Sunday. Tonight there were 5 Sporting Gijon players encroaching, plus one Barca. Did the referee order a retake? Did he hell!
