Sounds like we have a lot of anti Wasps posters on here, and are more concerned about escaping their sting (sorry) than anything else, and this is more important to them than anything else! This is about Coventry City, not Wasps! I'm happy to remain at the Ricoh at the moment and have a settled feel to the club while we're rebuilding on the pitch. And that's where we should be focussing, instead of taking our issues 'outside' again. Get it right on the pitch, get into the Championship first, and suddenly our credibility changes completely and the idea of a 15,000 seater becomes a joke. We're on the up right now, so let's be patient and deal with the stadium issue when we have a clearer idea of where we are, and everything is clicking on the field....the priority.

Nail on the head statement. Unless I've missed it as yet i haven't seen or read any reaction to this Butts Park Arena topic from sisu, Sepalla, Fisher or Chris Anderson our only concern at the minute should only be the promised re-build of our squad as promised to get us up and ready for a realistic promotion push and not get distracted from that
Spend next two years developing team at Ricoh then whilst considering the Butts scheme. ?

Mr Anderson said “We’ve said all along we are considering all options. I’ve only been here since last autumn. I needed to get up to speed and understand what the options are.
“The Butts Park Arena is one of the options that’s come to the fore that we are actively considering for the obvious reasons. The football club needs to be in control of its own destiny when it comes to revenues.
“It could be a really interesting option. It has real potential in a number of ways. It’s important we consider it seriously and consider the conversations.
“What I love about those options is it is such a good location in the city boundary, with the opportunity to link the two sporting clubs together and make sure both have a future.
“This isn’t a takeover of the rugby club by the football club or vice versa, but a partnership and sharing a ground in the city centre. When you go to the Butts Park Arena you can imagine it and see it in your mind’s eye.
“..The Football League have given preliminary approval to the site. They’ve inspected it (as this newspaper revealed last November). They’ve given us a report and they are on board with it.”

Sorry, but my thoughts are given the chance SISU will put up a couple of temporary stands (remember the open temporary stand at Blackpool). We will then spend time being told that the funds are coming (by 2025) to build a real stadium with a sunken pitch. But hey we will be out of the shadow of the nasty Wasps.
On a serious note where are the finances coming from to build the stadium, who will own it because I honestly believe that it will never belong to CCFC and we will yet again be tenants beholding to someone looking for serious monetary returns on their investment

Great post.
Exactly how I feel. Some posters on here are letting their wasps hatred and get out of the Ricoh at all costs get in the way of what actually real.
Let me clarify before I get slated, I hate wasps and I certainly hate those fucking poles they have on the round about and that they own the Ricoh. But for me staying at the Ricoh is what's best for business for now. For all the world we looked like top 6 for most of he season. Promotion to the championship gives us a much better hand to play in my opinion.
I like the idea of the butts for 2 reasons, one is we would have our own stadium as such and two then location is fantastic for many. (Apart from away fans) now as yet no one has told me where the countless millions comes from to build this, no one has told me that this location would fit a potential 25k stadium as I don't think it would. No one has told me why crfc would play in a massive stadium when they get 1500 fans. How long would all this take for permission and build? 5 years? More?
Well we didn't do too bad at the Ricoh last year and got over 17k twice in cracking atmospheres at the Ricoh. So for 15k stadium at the butts for the costs of countless millions and we could of got championship this year potentially. We would have Cov v villa at the butts for 15k stadium.
Which ever way you look at it it doesn't work. The only thing I hear is we would own our own destiny and stadium. Well yes but considering we get all ticket money and no costs to pay at the Ricoh whilst it isn't ideal we sell out the Ricoh at times for the big games and who is to stay we won't get a big cup draw next season. League 1 we are with just a hint of success in November were getting over 18k of which all was our money revenue. Rent of 100 or even 200k if it went up if nothing compared to all this.
I'm sorry the 15k stadium is a complete no go based on all of the above. Please no on one call me a wasps fan as I fucking hate rugby with a passion.

The Council should not stand in the way of this proposal, they should be encouraging it, part of their role is to encourage investment in the City. CCFC have no funds to spend on this, so SISU will have to cover any shortfall left after other grants, sponsorship etc, if they then decide to charge a huge rent, again it will be them paying it anyway. If they sell the club and we're left with a huge rent, we can use the threat of moving back to the Ricoh to help negotiation.
Until details of the financials are set out we can't necessarily assume that it will be cheaper to stay with Wasps, especially when the current deal runs out. We should push for a move, and push the Council if they try to stand in the way. If SISU are bluffing about the Butts to try and get a better deal at the Ricoh we should support the bluff.

There's a massive rugby base in the city, that'll mean attendances will dwarf those of football. In fact the rugby base is so strong Coventry will be a centre of Rugby and a Rugby city.

What happens if we get promoted next season then do well in the championship and our average crowds get close to 20K as they were once before when we were in the championship? Seems if SISU are serious about the BPA under the plans currently being hinted at promotion next season could be a disaster for SISU. If they're serious about the BPA that is.

Why wouldn't it? What proof do you have of that? You don't and not do I. That's what negotiations are for. Even it was double 200k I still think that's decent compared to all the figures. We get a couple of 20k gates of doing well again and it pays for itself.
But hey moving to a 15k stadium and stop massive crowds which we beat 15k over 2-3 times last season would be good as we get away from the terrible wasps. They are cocks but not their fault we don't own the Ricoh. It's sisu and ccc.

Well that's a very fair point about how long it will take to build.
If we are building a 15,000 seater stadium and it takes 3 years to complete and by then we are pushing near the top of the Championship, then the project is all going to look rather silly.
I too think the 25,000 is not feasible. I honestly believe the infrastructure of the area, access and the amount of local opposition would make the thing a total no goer.
Butts sounds great as a dream, but the reality is so much more complicated and difficult and enveloped by problems getting it off the ground.

I think the point is Nick even if we weren't surely we aspire to compete top end of the championship and beyond of course at which point 15k looks a bit silly then as we would easily cover it every game in the championship.

I understand what you are saying Nick, but we had a dreadful slump to our season and yet still only finished 5 points outside the play-off places.
If we were to go up then with that can come great momentum. Talking of reality is great, but it is not in fact unrealistic to believe we could be in the Championship in 3 years.
If we don't think it is then TM might as well pack in now. Burton showed what is needed and if we can bring the right calibre of player (mentally so as much as anything else), then I see no reason why we can't go up.
Mowbray has said himself, top 6 minimum is the aim next season.
Is that being unrealistic?

If it's no better then get some roots down at the Ricoh and lets get on with the football.
Suspect though that Sisu need to get the legals out their system first before that can start.
No point moving just to spite Wasps and the Council. What's best for CCFC ?
