Butts park arena? (16 Viewers)

So you want us to build two stadiums? Brilliant!!

Where's all the money coming for this then?

If the Butts was ready now as a 15,000 seater stadium then I would say fine, let's go there, but we are talking tens of millions and at least two years to even get to the stage of 15,000.

Would you seriously want those multi millions shelled out, for then maybe within 10 years having to go through the process all again?

Why not get it right first time? Let's trying and get the council backing us, meanwhile, Sisu should drop the court cases and work with Wasps for as long as it takes until we are in a position to find a secure home not just for 10 years, but for the next 100.

But Wasps don't want to know Otis!
Anyway, by the time we need to move from the Butts, Cov Utd will be ready to move in! :)

Of course the preference would be for our own PL standard. But thats not an option. And the position we are in at the moment it is highly unlikely we will attract a new owner who can make it happen. So what do we do? Stay at the Ricoh under Wasps for the foreseeable future just hoping for the best?
Sometimes you can't go straight from A to B you have to go via C.

I haven't seen the financials for the Butts but you need to consider that if a new stadium costs, finger in the air figure, £40m it doesn't mean CCFC need to come up with £40m. CCC put less than 9% of the construction cost of the Ricoh in to own 100%. In my example that would mean £3.6m to split between us and CRFC.

As for a future PL stadium that would need new owners. We will struggle to attract new owners in our current position. I would suggest a football club playing in the Championship with sell out crowds and a waiting list for season tickets would attract much more interest.

I've mentioned it a few times now but keep feeling the need to bring it back up but if there's room for a 25K stadium build the shell of a 25K stadium but only fit out for 15K if that's all we really need at this stage. Go up to the championship fit out another 5K to raise the capacity to 20K. It could be done over the summer. And then if we find that 20K isn't enough keep adding until we get to the 25K. Is that too difficult? Got to be easier than going through a complete rebuild and cheaper too.

Not aimed at you by the way Otis, just tagging my ten pennies worth on the back of your post.

You would think when building / modifying it would be done with expansion in mind rather than knocking it down to start again if it was bigger

But the point people seem to be missing is we're not in a great position currently. People are banging on about what happens when we get in the PL but staying at the Ricoh we have virtually no chance of getting in the PL.
If, when all the options are examined, the Butts is the best option to put the club on a solid footing then surely you do that. If in ten years time its too small and we need to look at moving to a 50K stadium then so be it. At that point we will be a successful team doing a lot for the city so you would hope would get more support from the likes of the council.
People are talking like we're marching to the PL and this will stop us in our tracks.

Missing what point, yours? we were a few shit results in being in with a great shout of promotion. Would a 15k seater stadium been big enough next season with all the derbies and potential big games?

Get want you are saying, Dave, but the Butts looks fraught with difficulties. You have the surrounding buildings recently built, you have the poor road access, you have the sunken pitch idea, you have Cov rugby not wanting a 25,000 seater stadium and you have the resident opposition that will without any doubt happen and be very vociferous.

Whatever the building of a stadium costs I think we need to add a few million onto the top of that before we have anything like a goer.

I could be wrong and in the lack of any real information and direction from the owners I would suggest that once you have to start excavating land to accommodate the tight surroundings an of the peg modular stadium designed for a brown/green field site becomes unviable. This would suggest that it would have to be tailor made, therefore surely so would any extension at a later date.

Common sense would say it would be designed and built with further expansion in mind so it's easier in the future?

If it was a case of knocking down and rebuilding every time we wanted 5k more I'd agree it's stupid

I don't remember anybody thinking there was a remote chance of us playing there under SISU until people mentioned Butts.
I still don't I think so, the Butts will slow SISU to sell the club to someone who may have the capability to get us there.
They will be stuck with a 25k stadium with now room for expansion

Would have thought SISU selling up and us having a 25k stadium in the middle of town would be a dream?

Our fans will never be happy, if it was 30,000 they would want 35,000.

Again, to show SISU it won't work. Let's fill the Ricoh every game next season, the more we only get 10 - 11k, the more they think 15-20k capacity would do.

I think safe standing would be brilliant. Similar to the Dortmund wall but bit smaller, unambitious I know, but it's a start. Depending on capacity of the other stands, whether one tier or two. The corners could be left out and filled in if required as part of the expansion? Would be easier to get through planning and easier to construct? Or could have corporate in the corners similar to Highfield Road? Would bring in extra income? If it did happen and it's a big if, I hope fans get to have more of a say.

No a 25k stadium with no ability to ever expand would never be my dream.
30k is more than enough in my opinion.
We would only be downgrading on what we have by 2k

People who go on about us never going anywhere under SISU, are now worrying that a ground won't be big enough when we get to the Premier League...

It's no surprise that it is mainly people who dislike SISU are saying the ground won't be big enough.

But the council sold land to tesco to raise money

We need to give Wasps an incentive that when we get to the Championship/PL they will benefit.

We shouldn't need to give Wasps fuck all. We're the hometown club...they're the outsiders.

If anything, to try and appease the locals, they should be doing all they can to accommodate us.

The fact they're not speaks volumes for the true character of the club in my personal opinion.

I hope Exeter stuff them today.

.

So we need to include a shopping centre, casino, hotel and conference centre at the Butts? o_O
I will give my friend Dr Who a ring to see who designed the Tardis. ;)

I'd say local media have a huge part to play in that. Nobody really questions them do they? Same with the promises they made to CRFC when they came here...

I suspect SISU are acting like the bullies they think they are and also why CCC and Higgs didn't play ball.
I bet they are documenting this already ready for the 2020 court case that will argue that Wasps chucked us out because they took the pie money.

No need to be obtuse. The point is the construction cost is not the same as the amount CCFC would need to finance.

So who do you think is going to contribute to the construction costs, considering what else can be squeezed in around the Butts? What do you think is a realistic figure that CCFC will need to contribute and the chances that our owners will do that. Lastly, you mentioned the word 'financials' in an earlier post and you haven't seen them yet. Running and walking springs to mind. We haven't had a definite word that it's even going to happen let alone seen planning permission, plans and all the other things a project like this needs.

Yes, it would be nice to have our own (would it really be ours) stadium close to the city centre but we don't know yet exactly what anybody is doing and the amount of smoke and mirrors that's been going on in the CCFC saga, I think I'll just wait and see.

You contradict yourself there. You suggest it is about disliking SISU. Then you say people are not happy about a stadium and no SISU.
The reason you are contradicting yourself is because for me it's nothing about liking or disliking SISU. It's about 25k capacity not been big enough if we ever get to where I as a Cov fan feel we should be.
30k stadium in that location or a 20 -25k stadium with the ability to expand to 30 I would be like a pig in sh*t. With the idea.
15k isn't big enough I am cautious about whether we will be able to expand it to 25k
Then I do not believe 25k is enough for us if we get where I would like us to get to.
I don't dislike SISU I dislike a lot of decision they have made and continue to make on behalf of the club.
I can't help but feel the driver behind a lot of the decisions (not all) is what is best for SISU and not necessarily CCFC.
That's it for me really.
You are the one trying to turn it into been about SISU.
I am sure there are people who wouldn't be happy with a 30k stadium that's their opinion and they are entitled to it.
It's not mine.

30 is more than enough but no to 25 thousand? How are you whining about 5 thousand?

Swansea is smaller than Coventry.
They have 8000 people waiting for season tickets at their 20k capacity (approx) stadium.

When we have had big matches we have hit 27 to 28k so the potential is there. I appreciate that was boosted by away fans. Of which in the premiership the demand from those away fans will be there.

With divides you 25k will actually be 24k.

It really isn't enough.

I also have serious issues with starting at 15k

How many English professional clubs do Swansea have to compete with within an hours travel from them?

I certainly think it is a bit simplistic to blame the loss of a stadium on one person - who wasn't even on the board of CCFC.

She was the leader of the organisation that sold the stadium to Wasps, right up until that point there was a way back. It is kinda that simple.

People are thinking longer term and SISU may not even be around in, say, 10 years. So, it is not a question of liking or not liking SISU - in this case.
