I think you'll find it was actually the reverse in this instance... Exclusive was the Observer article.
You tell Millerchip to stop playing Lord Chief Justice then and transfer the lease because until then nothing can happen - can it?
CRFC gates were down 8000 last season - that is a lot to them

So has someone from SISU spoken to the planning dept. then? I'd guess that they'd have to go with some sort of a plan. It's going to be yay big and hold this many people isn't going to get any sort of thoughts and advice. They'd have to talk to them with some outline plans at the least on a project of this size.

Just thinking, Nick, is it worth starting another sub-forum, or having a sticky, where Cov's fixtures and results can be put up, along with ticket prices and special offers etc.?
The more people we can get away from Wasps and to the Butts the better.
Cov are a team of this city and if the Sky Blues are hamstrung then let's back CRC as best we can and get them a much higher profile.
Never been to a rugby game in my life but I would most certainly consider going if it helped Cov and then in turn benefitted the City too.
They could hold a friendly at BPA - would not be more than 5000 there surely?

What bollocks. Of course it can. Nothing stopping SISU and CRFC coming up with a plan both financial and building. In fact it would probably help convince Lord Chief Justice Millerchip to transfer the lease if they did come up with a tangible plan that works for both outfits. Also nothing stopping both parties getting an architect involved and drawing up some plans to submit to the planning department. Then we would actually see how well it would be received. Strange that they haven't? Do they actually know if a 25k stadium will fit?
What's the problem? We were told 3 years ago by that "..the ship has sailed..” and that we were building our own stadium (with academy combined) to get access to that vital income 365 days and 24/7.

Are you saying that Millerchip has not seen any proposals? CRFC has just decided we have an idea and said "We will just stick up a shed Chris it will be OK" now transfer the property? Millerchip is a cute lawyer he would not have got to this stage without knowing what was planned. It because he knows it knocks his City of Rugby he doesnt like it!!

Well wasps are getting 13-14k, they are in the schools, they are PR masters. I'm all for backing cov rugby but I don't think its going to pursuade the likes of Italia to ditch wasps and get behind cov rugby.

You can draw up plans but you would not spend a lot of money on getting them through planning without the landowners consent.

So how would anyone know whether SISU had spoken to the Planning Dept? We wouldn't, it doesn't mean it did or didn't happen so what is your point?
Secondly they could have plans, it is feasible that they did, but that doesn't mean they had to be submitted. Thye could of course have spoken to the Planning Dept for their view on the project, and of potential problems and issues. Agaian we will never know, so what is the issue?

The only time planning permission would be sought by a third party is when transfer is agreed as he well knows.
As the owner of the lease won't transfer it's idiotic to blame sisu.
Still Tony was defending the City of Rugby initiative not so long ago - weren't you Tony?
Before Wasps there was not enough revenue in total between CCFC and ACL to keep them both profitable. In fact only the Olympics, extraordinary income and smart financial reporting made ACL appear profitable - but the truth is the cash flow was almost constantly negative. And that was back when the club paid £1.2m rent per year plus match day expenses (about £10k/match).
One reason - the main reason - ACL couldn't maintain a profitable operation was the £21m mortgage. The interest payments made the difference.
Now that loan is gone - but it has been replaced by an even bigger one. The interest payments way more than the Yorkshire Bank loan. And it's short term.
On the plus side Wasps is now adding revenue, but at the same time CCFC is paying a lot less. Stadium main Sponsorship is devaluated as long as CCFC hasn't committed to stay long term.
So, all in all I guess(!) that ACL/Wasps/CCFC combined are LESS profitable than previously ACL/CCFC were. Take away CCFC and I guess(!) ACL/Wasps are heading directly towards financial meltdown.
All efforts we see in action is to keep the club at the Ricoh.
So in my opinion, the best way to hurt Wasps is to take away their revenue. Demonstrate outside the gates. Contact their sponsors. But even more effective - move CCFC out, even to Northampton.
