Absolutely. My wife is Welsh and she's well pissed off! Such a shame that he was so young.

You would think he had everything going for him, but you never know what's going on behind the scenes, do you?

Shocking he was the best Wales boss in a long long time aswell.

Just like Billy Sharp's tragic loss of his son this terribly sad news just shows that whilst we bitch about football, SISU, Thorn etc there are some things far more important such as family - RIP Gary and our thoughts are with those you leave behind.

Shocked. Such a young age, just when wales are turning things around.

Article from SKY NEWS:-
Wales manager Gary Speed has been found dead at his home aged 42, the country's football association has announced.

A statement posted on the association's website said: "The Football Association of Wales are sad to announce the death of the national team manager Gary Speed.

"We extend our sympathies and condolences to the family. We ask that everyone respects the family's privacy at this very sad time."

Speed, who also captained the national team and remains the country's most capped outfield player, leaves two sons.

Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who lives near Speed's home in Huntington, Cheshire, described the news as "tragic".

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "At 7.08am this morning, sunday 27 November, police were informed of an incident at Aldford Road, Huntington.

"Officers went to the scene where a 42-year-old man was found dead. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and next of kind have been informed."

I think it's even worse because he came across as not just a top pro but a really nice bloke. Very sad indeed.

I wonder if he suffered from depression in private, it's alarming how many footballers do (the recent book on Robert Enke really helps shed light on how money and success does not automatically make a footballer such a great job)

He got through the footballer bit alright though, 20 years of it. And he was doing well as a manager. It seemed to all be falling into place for him in football terms. That's why I think it may have been personal. I don't want to speculate though and I hope the press don't either, although I know they will.

That seems to be the thing with clinical depression, it's not so much a reaction to bad news as something bubbling under all the time. It may be something else entirely of course.

Yeah, I know. He hid it well if it was that. I'm guessing over thee next few days we'll find out. It is truly shocking news, was completely numb when I heard it first.

Simply terrible and tragic news.

I remember him breaking into the Leeds team in the early 90s which went on to win the last Division 1 title.

Speed, Strachan, McAllister and Cantona - what a midfield that was.

RIP Gary and deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.

Stan Collymore's been tweeting about depression fairly recently, by coincidence. From my very basic understanding of depression, people can manage to hide it very well from absolutely everybody around them, and unfortunately they end up most at risk compared to people who actively seek help.

I don't know if I'd actually like that to be the case with Speed, but if nothing else it may help publicise it further if so, which would be something.

I remember too, first season I properly watched all the way through! You forgot David Batty in there!

I really hope they don't. This appears to be a private tragedy and it should be left private. Surely if the hacking scandal proves anything it's that the press should leave well alone where there is no public interest in them getting involved.

They were a truly marvellous side for a couple of seasons - 1990-1992.

They've just interviewed Howard Wilkinson on Sky Sports and understandably he sounds devastated.

A really tragic loss, of a great football man, at such a young age.

A great player who always gave his all, and was a model professional, and was turning out to be a savvy manager as well.

I just watched Robbie Savage who is devastated give an interview on what a great bloke Speed was on TV, very very sad.

The press don't seem to understand what is and what isn't wanted unfortunately.

I can imagine he is. It's just tragic.
