Look like we will go with what we have.... (16 Viewers)

But there is an awful lot of assumption there is there not?

I know it looks bad and it is easy to blame the owners, but there is also the possibility that TM has been TRYING to recruit but deals are falling through due to players being nabbed by someone else, or the player unable to agree terms.

We are not in a position to know what has gone on behind the scenes.

If we were trying to get Wilson and it did look promising, but now it has fallen through due to someone offering more, we can hardly blame Sisu for that.

I know on the surface it looks really poor, but we have no idea how frustrating it has been for TM in trying to recruit and bring players in.
Agreed, but it's a reflection on the resources TM has at his disposal and we are in a weaker position than some of our rivals.

Two Adam Armstrong type loans, a craggy centre back or two and we'll be on our way again - things change quickly!

Of course we will be weaker than teams like Sheffield United.

It is part of being a football manager isn't it? Every manager works to a budget, especially in the lower leagues.

Spending money you don't have is exactly how you go into administration yet some Cov fans are still insistent that we do it

I don't think many fans are saying we should pay over the odds for players, although I could quite imagine the Facebook page providing some humour on that front.

Personally, I'd be a lot happier with two Aaron Martin's in centre back than one expensive injury risk from the Championship.

The fact we haven't bought in nearly anyone is the concern, not that we aren't splashing millions.

Something to be positive about is the fact we play 3 weak teams early on. Swindon are in a similar if not worse position to us.

Their team in the final pre-season game: Vigouroux, Barry, Thompson (C), Sendles-White, Brophy, Smith, Kasim, Iandolo, Ormonde-Ottewill, Goddard, Obika

Thomas and Rossi Branco are both injured. They've lost Ajose and not replaced him.

Over 16 players have left, and the squad has been supplemented with our youth yet again, people have every right to be concerned.
Same shit, different season.

There was a professor of sports business from Salford Business School on BBC CWR this morning, who said that due to the restrictions of lower league clubs shelling out more than 60% of their income on wages, and we have no income from stadium revenue, we are mid-table in terms of salary budgets. That's why no one wants to come ...

Then it's the job of the manager to get the best team out of the budget. If he thinks he can sell a player and improve with that money / wage then they do that.

People act like it is football manager with an unlimited money cheat or something or think TM is the only manager who has to work within a budget in the football league.

Ditto. *As it stands* releasing Martin is seeming a stranger and stranger decision.

You always imply that people have unrealistic expectations around recruitment
and wages, when I don't think they do, people would just be happy for the club
To be in a position to compete.

Isn't he supposed to have virtually the same budget as last year? Thus far with signings and players released, that doesn't seem truthful.

Because some don't the way they go on as if we are the only team in League 1 to have a budget and TM is the only manager to have to work within a budget.

Can people not see why Sheffield United would be able to pay Fleck a lot more than we can?

......................RCC......................
.........Willis..Ricketts..Harries
Evans................................Haynes
..................Gad..Rose...............
Jones..................................Reid
.............................................
....................Sordell...................

If he wants to continue playing the formation he had been playing
I can only see this as the starting 11 as it stands
Any other ideas if this is the formation?

I like this line up, I would possibly have Gadzhev playing in front of Rose (more of the number 10 role where Maddison started last season)...he seems to have a good shot on him if the ball falls to somebody outside of the box, and although Rose is a box to box player, I think he will need to help out our defence quite a bit in the first few weeks, in a more holding role. Only other question mark would be whether you play Tudgay instead of Sordell, or somehow revert to a 4-4-2 to accommodate both.

Does anybody know if Reid and Jones are disciplined enough to drop back, were Haynes and Kelly Evans to go on a run up the wing?

Yes, apart from when we bought Jones...
Considering the fee was suppose to of been agreed in January, then surely we used last seasons budget for that purchase? Surely some of Maddsions money covered that so TM had a fresh budget for this season?

Judging by players signed, teams like Oldham and Fleetwodd have a better budget to ours... so far.

Only a few weeks ago a lot on here didn't think we should retain Rickets, those that
did ( me inc ) thought he'd be good to have in the dressing room and decent back-up
When needed.
But now we're going to kickoff the season with him as our main CB, says it all really.

No one thinks the club should spend millions but they should be in a position to compete with the majority of other clubs in league one on wages and signings given our top six attendences we get. as I predicted three weeks ago TM would struggle to get any players to sign for this club given the poor budget our owners give him and the wages they are willing to pay I also said I will wait for the crap excuses as to why we haven't signed anyone and low and behold there now starting.

Looking at our current team we can play this season is going to be a struggle and I predict that TM will leave at the end of the season if not sooner and who can blame him under our owners no support no budget ,no ground to play in in two years time and totally alienated every other organisation in Coventry

Why? Because they have signed a few free transfers and loans?

Is there where we prefer Mowbray to do a Pressley and go out and get numbers in, none of which are any good?

Not at all, but he's frustrated for a reason, and we all know why, because his budget is massively reduced from last season.

Also how do we know the players other teams have signed are crap? They've clearly done their business before the season starts, unlike us, again..

Is it reduced and if it is? Why? Surely missing out by not much the budget should increase as investment to go for it.

No but a pre season of having half a first team and starting the season not having any where near the quality of last season and starting with a team made up of kids and players who couldnt get in the first team last year is poor. You only have to look at the team last season to what we have now and realise where we are going.

Still at least weve cut the playing budget again to save our owners money despite the sale of maders and increased attendencies and season tickets

I think it affects the budget in the year you physically receive the money. So if the sale £3m and we received only £500k up front then only £500k was used to calculate the budget 2015/16

Talk of upping the budget could of course be irrelevant if the physical cash is used to pay down debt or even just cover a cash shortfall on existing wages

You would say that having a decent centre half or two has been a necessity for some time, even going back to last season, yet we are still threadbare in that department.

If, heaven forbid, we get off to a really bad start it isn't going to make recruitment of even loan players any easier

And of course a loan sigbning means we have to go through all this again next season, anyway...
