When was the last time we bought a player for anything other than an 'undisclosed fee'? Does anyone remember? If so who was it and what did we pay?

Yes most players we sign for cash on those rare occasions are undisclosed. I don't really know the reasons.

I think I read we haven't paid for turnbull but got him for free with a 50% sell on fee to Southampton as payment?

It's usually the selling club that insist on this, but not always.

The fact that we paid so much for Jones, you'd have thought it would have been massively in the club's interests to disclose the fee to demonstrate to the fans that they are investing in the team, so I can only assume that D&R insisted on that. As for this one, perhaps Southampton didn't want their supporters aware of the fact they had unloaded a promising young player for peanuts.

That would be a great bit of business, although I can't understand why Southampton would be ok with that? Anything could happen in the meantime or he could run down his 3 years and we get nothing.

Or they know he is amazing so we will sell him for £10m next year when we win the championship :)

Maybe they are grateful we got Sisu and they didn't

Surely they must have to disclose it in the annual accounts submitted to Companies House?

Not necessarily, fees aren't always paid in one year so it wouldn't be clear how they sit on the accounts. Some would be paid out and some future liabilities. Not sure how they account for milestone or achievement based payments either.

Quite a few deals are done with a base fee then additions - for example if the buying club get promoted further payments are due. Plus of course a percentage of any sell on fee. Clubs will especially want to keep that element quiet for obvious reasons

Surely if they were confident of his future ability they would simply loan him out and then get the full fee when/if they sell him on?
Unless they were to incorporate a first refusal buy-back clause should he fulfill any potential they think he has?

That's why it was undisclosed then, to make us all believe Sisu actually paid out some money
