Sunken pitches, negotiating a water table, major infrastructure alterations, then constructing three more grandstands, if in the remote chance all this got through planning, where will the money come from ?

They're bound to find some buried treasure when they excavate to sink the pitch, don't fret mate.

It's been many years since I was last at the Butts but I seem to recall that there was a track around it. If so, then I can see the advantage of "sinking". the pitch. To me however the cost of doing so would be prohibitive.
Lol at many years, that old cycle track was dug up 15+ years ago.

Have no idea why people are talking about a sunken pitch at butts.
There's blocks of flats, the butts hotel, 6 story apartments , and part built stadium already, building a tall stadium round there isn't gonna alter the skyline at all

People have a right to light. They would never get it passed to have a stand right next to their windows and balconies.

He's got a point tbf
The frontage would be the only potential issue there and the closest flats are the other side of four lanes and at least four storeys high.

You are spot on Astute and it's about time all this was put to the council for answers so this farcicle subject can be put to bed once and for all and we can get on with getting something sorted at the Ricoh

No-one is bothered about the council flats over the road. For one they don't have proper balconies. It is the modern oap flats overlooking the stadium from the side that are the problem. The idea of a sunken pitch comes from Rugby JS and/ or TF. They have already seen the complaints coming.

The Aviva Stadium is a good example of that rule. The small stand looks shite.

Have to agree with Astute. Have you seen just how close the retirement village is to the Butts stadium?

It is mighty close and a stand built there would restrict light for sure.

You have to remember that the stand at the Butts only holds 3,000. If we are talking about a 20,000 seater stadium or so then that stand will have to be a lot taller and the other 3 stands too.

Don't misread me I don't think it'll happen or is even genuine.
Yet the existing stand already backs onto the new apartments.
So I agree with pipehitters it won't fail on height, but in fantasy world it would only ever be 15k

Yes, I see that, but the capacity is 3 or 4000 at the moment. They 'intend' putting in housing units, shops, training facilities. To fit all that in they need height or depth - which is why the sunken Pitch first appeared on the agenda. They would have to build bigger stands than those at present to get to 15000 and later, 25000 crowds. ( I am smiling whilst typing ). Actually even discussing this and hearing people putting forward possible positive scenarios shows how many positive scenarios we have to put together - with the best will in the world - to justify something in our own interests. Wait until the opposition wakes up - when the plans are made public - and tries to find negative points. They will have an easier job than we do.

I'd imagine the water table is quite high in that area. Isn't there a river / stream very close by? Not sure what you would gain by it either other than a lower profile on the skyline and I don't think that's been talked about as a potential issue as of yet.

Yes, the River Sherbourne runs past the Stadium & the Tech on the other side of the Butts Rd.
This is looking towards the ring road, the Butts is upstream in the other direction about 300yds.

There's only one thing more pointless than discussing it. And that's pointing out that it will never happen.
Get used to sitting in eventual yellow and black seats at the wasp arena there won't be another stadium built in coventry. 1 sisu have no intention of it and 2 The council won't allow it. We are just tenants at the mercy of wasps. Harsh reality of the situation whether we like it or not

But they are not all council just spent thousands on the uni flats there.
Infact the uni could pay for the ground with their spare change.
And even put a few more flats on it.
