So he is better than all the other gods? I think there are a few billion people who would deny that. World peace is highly unlikely if religious people feel that their individual gods are the solution. If you follow that logic, everyone else should give up their gods to fulfill your god's powerful prospectus. You have no proof that your claims are better than those of others.
I personally think that's what Jesus came to do. Cease division and unite all people in a new way of living. Don't commit adultery was the rule he said or is believed to have said but he added don't look with lust. He came to preach non religion. We know so little martcov let's not be too arrogant to not open our minds to other possibilities

In science you can dispute claims and prove them wrong through peer review. In religion you can make outlandish claims and no-one can either disprove them or prove them. They remain claims.

Why do you think other religions are inferior to yours? Or that they are less true than yours? All religions are based on claims, not facts. They are all equal. Your claims are unproven, Hindu's claims are unproven = they are equal in value. Scientific value of 0,00%.

Where have i called any religion inferior?
Where have i said nay other religion is false?

You need to stop making thongs up you miserable man

Argue with him sick boy not me. You were after proof of the reality of god. Justin Welby and his actions and choices are part of the answer.

Sorry sick boy it may not have been you
Most highly intelligent people are not believers in any god. Why is that?

Just read this thread properly, and wow.

Where the "persecution" is, I don't know. Seen plenty of posts from Trevel though, that are very insulting. Yet, they've been allowed as it's aimed at "Atheists" or non believers.

I haven't seen one "You should not believe in whatever Religion". If I've missed it, please point me to it.

Amazing. A rant from a Christian. I am not intolerant of your religion. I find your views ridiculous and not based on evidence. Yes, you are deluded. You keep on proving it by your rants in defence of your imaginary friend. You call your imaginary friend Jesus, but others have imaginary friends too - some call theirs Muhammed for example.

In science a theory is as proven as you can get. It is, in effect, counted as proven fact unless someone can prove otherwise. Religion is bullshit, unless you can prove otherwise - which no-one has up until now. You are using the wrong definition of the word "theory". You mean theory in the non-scientific sense of "hypothesis".
To be fair Muhammed was real and he was a bit of a Warlord too.

I've still not had a proper answer as to why women can't be priests? What sort of people follow a book that basically blames everything that is wrong with the world on women? What are the church's views on homosexuality these days?

The church's views on homosexuality are that it's not compulsory but it helps with the application;)

Some wonderful stuff in the Bible.. a very pro slavery, capital punishment, anti woman read..
“Do not allow a sorceress to live.” (Exodus 22:18)
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.” (1 Timothy 2:12)
“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22)
“Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18)
Ephesians 6:5 - "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."
1 Timothy 6:1 - "1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered."
Leviticus 20:10 - 'If a man commits adultery with another man's wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."
Leviticus 20:13 – "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
Deuteronomy 25:11-12 – "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."

Depends who you ask. Nothing in my faith discounts 50% of the population from being priests. Homosexuality is a difficult question for the whole world and our society has a come a long way. I believe love between humans is ok but we all have limits mainly based around age and not animals. Some Christian's say it's against the natural order others believe those that love are showing a part of gods love in the world and it's to be regarded as good.

The religious are more than welcome to have their toys and play with them in the comfort of their own homes and places of worship, but they don't. What they do is say "these are my toys and you must play with them too, if you are not prepared to play with them then you must not question my preference of toy or question why I play with them, and by the way, I have the worlds largest Hornby train set in my attic made of gold and diamonds, but I am not going to let you see it or even provide you with any tangible proof it exists, you just have to believe me and have faith that it's really in my attic"...........or you will pay a price for eternity (mostly involving torture and fire)

Out of interest Pete, on a scale of 0-10, what would you say you believe there is a God? 10 being 100% certain.

Any other posters please answer too :)

Why homosexuality? Why should it bother you or church? I find the question of homosexuality the equivalent of left handedness- some people are, most people aren't. What is difficult about that?

The basic teaching of love one another etc, I get that. Treat people how you'd like to be treated, with kindness, compassion and love etc. I fully agree with that.

But two women or men sleep together, a slave fights back against a master, a man rapes a woman and then owns her, they are to be punished? Really?

Also, the believers have the right to carry out these punishments due to a book written by man?

Maybe I'm missing something.

Don't commit adultery - did he say that? I thought it was Jaweh. He is now counted as being the son of god by millions of believers. Did he say he was the son of god? Instead of saying you can only get to heaven through me ( Jesus ), why didn't he say let's cease division and live for one another? No father, no son and no Holy Spirit. Just people making the best of their time on earth and respecting each other when doing it. Oops, that's me saying that.

No, that's common in religions. Mostly men are superior and the most superior of them get to wear flashy clothes, are rich, control many people and have access to sex. Human desires not "godly". Funny that.

He would say he's only good because of the work of God in his life is all I was meaning to show

Sick. Only good because of stories, fables and legends? I am good because of my upbringing, my surroundings and maybe my reason. If I hit someone, he will probably hit me back. If I help people, maybe people will help me. It is not difficult. I don't need religion and am still a decent guy. As are billions of non christians.

Just seen this one martcov.

Three for starters

Stalin
Pol pot
Rwanda Hutus and Tutsi's

And of course there is wisdom outside of the Christian faith. How arrogant do you think I am?

Religion has no monopoly. I said that before. Yes there is an enormous amount of wisdom outside of the Christian faith.

Stalin started his working life in an orthodox preist seminary.

Yes these people had other doctrines than religious - but people followed them - maybe for the same reasons as they follow religions.

Strong father figure who demands unbounded loyalty and promises a sort of paradise in return.

Doesn't justify religion.

A difficult question? Bloody hell. It's no different to someone being born with a particular colour of skin or being right or left handed.

It's perfectly natural and has been going on before religion was invented by mankind. It was also perfectly acceptable and common in ancient Greece and Rome.

Yet more innocent human beings who have been persecuted and suffered due to religion.

Especially in African countries. I saw something on TV, where they get abducted practically and "tested". Would be interesting to find out who decides the outcome of these tests, as the punishment is death.

I also don't understand how the "immoral" sexual practises of a married man and woman was outlawed by certain religions and countries/states. Surely you do what you want in the bedroom, and nobody knows? Not sure how it was brought to attention or proven etc?

Whilst I respect your opinion and beliefs, how can you be so certain?

Me, for example, I don't particularly "believe", but there is an element of what if?

What if there is no "Afterlife"?
That's fine absoluteky. I think one of the biggest problems is Christian's focusing so much on Jesus death that they don't live the life that he calls us to live.
