I thought they rescued the toys first and only THEN tried to save the staff.

Shame. If only they had, had a collection of Fireman Sam vehicles the place could have been rescued and ot would have been well in control before it even got started.

That's one place I never visited - the Toy Museum. It just never held an interest for me. As a kid, I used to wag school a heck of a lot and would spend my days wandering around the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. I used to love looking at the stuffed animals in there. Probably not there now. Also, as a nipper, I used to enjoy climbing the cathedral spire (on the inside, Otis!!), I think it cost a tanner (6d or 2½p) in those days. Great fun spitting over the side and watching where the wind carried it!

I always find the cathedral fascinating at night.

I'm usually on the way back to a hotel after the football and several beers, but always stop to admire the fantastic craftsmanship that the cathedral has and I think it looks great at night with the cobbled streets around it

Sometimes people travel to the other side of the world and have to see all the sights but don't see what's on their doorstep. Although I'm sure al Coventry schools do a trip to the cathedral, mine did at least.

It is the same where I live. We have the Lake District on our doorstep. You have to drive within feet of Lake Windermere to get to the M6. But most people born around here hardly ever visit the lakes. But it seems like half of China visits each summer.

Same here Astute. I must have covered every inch of the island. Now, when my missus says, "Where shall we go today?", we both really struggle to think of anywhere. We've seen everything and done most everything (or at least what our age allows us!). I'm okay in the summer as I have my sea fishing to keep me occupied and also my camera, but my missus really gets miserable coz she has 'nothing to do'.

I've been to both and to Warwick Castle which has visitors from miles away, but only because of school and family trips. I have zero interest in pretty much anything of culture.

She knows Coventry well enough to know her way around. I have a lad who lives in Coventry. She used to come with me frequently. She wasn't too keen on Hillfields though

I lived on a farm (also had huge campsite) situated right on the waters edge of Ullswater for a while, I worked at a little pub called the Sun Inn at the closest village called Pooley Bridge, you could travel anywhere in the world and struggle to find a more beautiful place. Crazy packed with tourists all year round, from all over the world.

When we go away for the weekend during summer the traffic can be stationary on the Friday on the way into the lakes so we miss it all. And when we get back on the Sunday evening the traffic jam is everyone leaving for the M6.

Some of the best places in (and around) Coventry are the woods, especially in Spring when the wildflowers are out. I remember going to one wood which was so pristine, with carpets of bluebells and a few pockets of yellow primroses and marsh marigolds around the ponds. Living things are better than any museum. And I think you are more likely to find God in a wood than in a cathedral.

Hahahaha...that is true. The father in law (to be) has 18 cars that he keeps in various fields around the village where he lives. He seems to spend more time with them than with his family. He has also given them names and refers to each of them as 'she'.

I like him already - let me know if it doesn't work out for you.

I used to like the chippy in Bell Green, one of the best in the area imo.
