Do you remember when Subaru backed us? If so you will recall that while Subaru adorned our shirts, the sponsorship deal was actually with a local Subaru car dealership.

All well and good, but that's not the case here: http://media.landrover.com/node/2724

As for how much the sponsorship of Land Rover to Wasps is, I don't know and neither do I care. But to claim that the football club is a better draw for sponsors than Wasps are at this moment in time is a tad naïve in my opinion.

Its all well and good having a big name sponsor on your shirt but there's not point if they are not actually paying that much.

Genuinely believe that they aren't paying significantly more to Wasps than we receive from A&A?

There was a discussion about rugby on the radio the other day. Didn't pay it a huge amount of attention but a couple of points being made got my attention.

Apparently all is not well in the Premiership with a dispute looming between the players and the league over changes to the length of the season. The talk was there was serious potential for the players to walk out on strike.

The other point that was made was rugby not being as popular as some might thing. Seems there's an England international coming up that will only be streamed on their website as no broadcaster was prepared to show it.
I seem to remember the last england tour to Argentina was online only.
As much as they have improved , Argentina will never be box office.

They are a big global brand in your words, how much do you think they are paying Wasps?

Don't think that is quite right. Wasn't the deal with the company responsible for the import of Subaru and Isuzu into the whole of the UK? I seem to remember the local dealers ultimately paid for it through a surcharge and were upset by it though.

So Land Rover aren't a global brand?
Like I said, I don't know. But a quick google shows it as a multi-year sponsorship deal with branding rights throughout the stadium. It's not too much of a leap of faith to expect that to be more money going to Wasps from JLR than we receive off A&A.

There's a big difference between shirt and stadium sponsors, the exposure is worlds apart especially at our level.

You will be hard pushed to find a media outlet who have used the words "Allsopp & Allsopp" (I even had to go on the offal to double check I was correct and I'm a ST holder)

Ricoh is mentioned on a daily basis in all forms of media, news stories online, TV and in print, highlight programmes, previews, Soccer Saturday etc. Id say it is now one of the most widely known stadium sponsors mainly because it didn't have a known name before.

Shirt sponsor only really becomes serious money/exposure when you get to Prem level and it is on the shirt of the team playing against Utd, Lpool, Arsenal etc in front of millions worldwide.

This isn't about shirt sponsors though, its about stadium sponsorship, do you think a company would pay more to sponsor a stadium used only by Wasps or a stadium used only by CCFC?

Right this moment in time? Wasps.

Of course you're right, if we were in the Prem / Championship and it was us that owned the stadium then we'd have sponsors queuing to have their name up there in lights. But we aren't.

Thing that pisses me off more than anything about shirt sponsorship is that fact that we have a two-bit estate agency that no-one outside Cov area has ever heard of, yet Hereford FC, who are a phoenix club following Hereford United being wound up, and just won the title in the 4th tier of non-league football (Southern League, Div 1 South & West), are sponsored by fuckin Jewsons, a well-known nationwide brand. Whose head office, I might add, is in Coventry!!!

The problem there is the PRU take zip notice of the RFU or anyone else

Could be their local Jewsons to be fair.

When I was at uni about 17 years ago, we were sponsored by Barclays. That was the local Barclays, not the global banking powerhouse. Had the official Barclays logo on our kit though.

That may be correct, but our shirt sponsors over the years haven't been that great have they?

Peugeot (Talbot) and Subaru excepted.

In 1981 JH struck a deal with Peugeot that was if City made the final they would wear sponsored shirts
Those days they were not allowed on TV and Peugeot was prepared to pay the fine
Sadly we lost 2-0 and 4-3 on aggregate. Was in a coach loaded with cans of beer and not one was drunk on the way back!

Sure they are, but I wouldn't be fooled into thinking they are paying global brand prices to sponsor the team. It's probably decent enough for Wasps but essentially it is Land Rover fulfilling their Rugby marketing campaign strategy....what was it......#wedealinreal or something like that.

In the end a sponsor for a Ground will look at long term opportunity for exposure. Number of hits. You mention Global Brand - well if a business wants a global price it has to have Global exposure. Rugby does not have that in the same way as football. There is some exposure in Japan but other far east markets there is not and even there it is very minority.

It is in the main a limited colonial sport with no global appeal. Football has. So in negotiations the association with the football club becomes a consideration as even at League One level it attracts the same exposure level as Wasps and Wasps are at the pinnacle of their game So yes it annoys them like hell.

Shirt sponsorship is small beer

The Wasps Holdings accounts to June 2016 are on Companies House. It's quite difficult to ascertain the value of the shirt sponsorship deal, but I think it's less than £50k p/a. Land Rover doesn't even seem to see it as increasing their exposure, more general support for rugby union (including its 'local' teams).

Correct - its a tie into the overall sponsorship of the Sport in the UK and an extension to that

Most of us were glad to get out of the ground in one piece...

Strangely I was having a conversation in London today with someone who's not connected in any way to CCFC. But he knows someone high up at the Ricoh. Here's a few things he told me. It's probably bullshit but he'd have no reason to say any of it really as he has no previous knowledge of anything CCFC.
Ricoh haven't paid for the naming rights for two years. ACL and the council just let them roll with it as there was no one else etc.
There are spies in every camp regarding the takeover. Dirty tricks going on..
Sisu have zero interest in the club and are prepared to bury it along with all the debt.
Every player is for sale in the summer.
Everyone connected with the takeover obviously wants it as cheap as possible and are prepared to play hard ball and for the club to go non league if that's what it takes to get the deal they want.
And the strangest thing he mentioned was that the council are funding Robins wages.
Make of that what you will...

We had a stand sponsored by Jewsons but fucked them about and they withdrew, and Lloyds pharmacy did looks like the owners dont care about bringing money in

The funny thing is someone somewhere on here will take this as gospel and it will appear tomorrow on the front page - won't it Simon?

Not contacted in any way to CCFC - Every player is for sale this summer.

If you're going to make up a rumour at least attempt something that strings together man.

True, but it had NEVER been called that beforehand. It was only because Ricoh were not giving backhanders to the International Olympic Committee to have their name used so they had to come up with something neutral and arbitrary
This doesn't help. It's speculation without foundation. You have absolutely nothing to back this up.
