I thought Burge improved markedly during the year. He is a good shotstopper. Was it only Oldham who score less than us this year - there was the problem, combined with a bang average defence and midfield for the first 3/4 of the season, combined with a large mix of poor management during that period. Apart from that - not bad.
Yes he did improve throughout the season. If Burge's parents were Fisher and Seppala ,he would hardly be more unpopular to some fans. And yet just over 12 months ago, most fans were singing the praise of Mowbray, saying how good it was to get a 'proper' manager in at last with huge experience, Yet even after over a year in the job, he made no obvious attempt to replace Burge, even though he had no 'buyer' loyalty to Burge. Lots of other players were discarded but not Burge.
!2 months on, we now have a manager who fans openly say they are happy with, and apparently feel confident in him to build a new side. Robins has had several weeks to judge his squad, and yet again he has judged Burge worthy of a new contract. Again Robins didn't bring Burge here, so has no obvious loyalty to him. If fans say that they trust Robins, surely they should back his judgement on Burge.
