General Election (12 Viewers)

Of course you could argue that an increase in funding to the police, whilst a change in approach towards international relations, is exactly what is needed.

Now we could debate whether Corbyn's change in approach is what's needed (and I suspect we're all entrenched in that) but the general principal isn't entirely stupid...

Funding the police more will help of course.

However, ripping apart MI5, taking down the shoot to kill policy, and a more lapsed immigration/deportation ideology will not.

Why are they all so shit?

The shoot to kill policy is not going to be taken away is it?

Let's be honest - what happened on Saturday showed what will really happen in those defining moments. The decision will rest in the hands of the armed police - no one is going to be phoning the PM to check if it's OK to shoot.

This country and its subjects used to be the proud owners of an array of industry's And services
That provided invaluable funds to the treasury as well as mass employment, collectively it was
Known as the "family silver". Thatcher and her hateful regime thought it would be a good idea
To sell it all off enabling them to give vote winning tax cuts, and at the same time giving people
Of there own elitist ilk the opportunity to make millions.

At the same time they waged a resentful war on the very people that made this country great,
The working classes, leaving huge swathes of our once great cities in terminal decline. They
Thought it a good idea to import subsidised coal from Germany, because it was cheaper than
Having our own mining industry dig it for us, they had ships built abroad because it was a bit
Cheaper (again subsidised) rather than have our own historic and world renowned ship yards
Build them.

While other countries were investing in and where necessary subsidising there industries, we
We're systematically killing ours, the human cost and monetary cost to our economy has been
Catastrophic. The one industry that did receive subsidies from the nasty party was farming :emoji_thinking:
Hmm ! I wonder why.

Fortunately for them, the media and press in this country is almost entirely owned by billionaire
Right wing moguls, who are quite adapt at putting a very biased slant on things. You have to
Admire the way the best selling paper in this country deliberately dumbs down and fills its pages
with celebrities, tits, football, TV, cartoons and of course "right wing propaganda"

The odious Kelvin Mckennzie proclaimed after an election a few years back
"It was the Sun wot won it"
On this particular occasion, he wasn't telling lies.

Is anybody else weirdly looking forward to Thursday night and some absolutely mad results that nobody predicted coming out. Like safe seats switching hands all over the shop.
Yes I am, I just wish Scotland and Wales would wake up to the fact that they can
Vote labour and get a real labour government, after all the emergence of the SNP
And Plaid Cymru only came about because they kept voting labour and getting
Tory, or at best Tory lite.
Without Scotland and Wales the Labour Party are 'if not dead in the water" then
Severely floundering.

I fear after all this, it'll be an as-you-were!

Seems there's little appetite for change, whatever any of the parties do or don't do.

I'm dreading it, not so much the election but the aftermath of a tory win because I think they'll completely fuck up the brexit negotiations.

I really hope I'm wrong because my childrens future is more important to me than telling a load of anonymous people on a message board I told you so.

For clarity I'm not defending the spending or even arguing with your assumption that investment hasn't increased, merely that name calling and saying you work there doesn't offer you the upper hand over his alternative position.

Yes it does. I was addressing the ludicrous claim that investment is rising, it isn't.
I'd also add that I barely know anyone in the NHS who isn't anti Tory, it's bred in them to complain about pay, even the non medical staff which is where there is so much waste. Funding needs increasing for sure but only in the right areas and that's direct care not administration.

Do you blame them? After all, the elephant in the room of PFI that the Tories (and New Labour) hoisted on the NHS is PFI. Trusts find themselves in a long term mortgage that they cannot get out of. All for the political wheeze of keeping public spending off the Treasury's balance sheet.

As for pay, nurses pay is piss poor. In fact, registrars' pay isn't that good considering their expertise and level of training.

I agree the NHS still spends too much on administration, something the Tories brought about through Andrew Lansley's disastrous reorganisation which created hundreds of commissioning groups with all the fragmentation and repetition that brings.

Investment isn't rising you utter dope. It's not even keeping up with the increase in demand (o and I've worked in the NHS for 3 years so I know first hand)

Another well thought out reply from you.

For the period of 2014 - 2021 the budget will rise by £8.4B. The government actually tried to claim that the amount was £10B but almost £2B was announced in the previous parliament so the £10B figure is widely dismissed by media, political commentators, the opposition parties and NHS boses and the £8.4B figure widely accepted in it's place. But you know better.

So far you've dismissed two structured arguments with facts and figures from myself labeling me an "utter dope" in the process. Either come back with something to prove me wrong or take a look in the mirror pal.

For the record. I never defended the budget, I acknowledged it wasn't much from the off and I never slated or laid blame on the staff of the NHS. Why you've chosen to get on your high horse and act like a total prick is bemusing.

If you think the NHS is going to receive an extra £8.4 billion, think again
"The £8.4 billion is to be front-loaded, with £3.8 billion given in 2016-17 most of which will be used to deal with hospital deficits. This will be followed by £1.5 billion in 2017-18, £0.5 billion in 2018-19, £0.9 billion in 2019-20 and £1.7 billion in 2020-21."

Health spending figures are 'misleading', committee says
"The Government has been accused of issuing "misleading" figures that double the actual amount of NHS spending.
MPs on the Commons Health Committee said that claims that the NHS would receive £8.4 billion by 2020/21 actually translates to £4.5 billion because ministers used a different calculation compared to previous years."

Ok. I shouldn't have called you dope, so apologies for that. Adjusted for inflation the budget is rising 0.6% a year to 2021, much lower than historical trends and insufficient for the rise in demand + requirements for capital investment to improve facilities.

Again. I never said it was sufficient. I would love to see us spend a similar percentage of GDP or amount per capita to Denmark but the point I was making is that due to cultural differences regarding a willingness to pay higher taxes it's unlikely. The spending on the NHS has increased but the problem is it doesn't reach the frontline. You can draw your own conclusions as to why that is.

Such a shame that Yvette Cooper is not the Labour leader. She would run rings around May in the current climate.

The NHS will be privatised under a Conservative administration, its one of the things in Their sights
that will require a stronger majority, May has already implied she will follow the recommendations of
The Naylor report, and it recommends privatisation.
All NHS land, buildings and everything within, will be sold off at a fraction of its true worth to a greedy
Bunch of billionaires who will never have enough.
"Virgin Medical Service" ....Anyone!!!

Even If you've never done it before "Vote Labour" to save YOUR NHS.

You maybe haven't noticed, but Jeremy Corybin is running rings around May in this
Current climate, it's just not reported that way.
I have noticed but he lacks credibility as he is perceived as a friend of terrorists and an opponent of anti-terror legislation. Cooper has no such baggage.

What would happen if it were made illegal to shoot to kill and policemen were faced with murder charges if they did so?

If Cooper were the one in the firing line, she would be under attack the same as Corybin is, The
reason doesn't have to be true, in fact that doesn't matter one jot.
They successfully did it with Michael foot, Neil Kinnock, Gordon Brown and were sharpening
their knives For John Smith before he prematurely died. It's no coincidence that Tony Blair
Was allowed to slip through the net, he didn't threaten the establishment, a real Labour Gov
Terrifies the wealthy elite as it would curtail their illicit stock piling and hiding of wealth.
Amazing that these greedy bastards go to church once a week and call themselves Christians.

But that's not on the cards is it, in an ongoing situation like Saturday it is obviously
The right thing to do, but we don't want to follow the states where police are getting
Away with shooting unarmed citizens over very trivial matters, do we.

How would the legislation work so that it's ok to shoot sometimes?

She has plenty of baggage she is Mrs Ed Balls that is more than any person should carry.

I honestly think that if Andy Burnham was in charge Labour would be ahead and win.

Tories will win this election. To even suggest otherwise is a tad deluded. Tories got a majority with ukip getting 4m votes so now about half of ukip are going back to Tory this just further strengthens their seats and majority. Snp will take the lions share in Scotland meaning labour can't win this election. I know this post won't be popular but it is the reality. Tory majority of 30-50 seats is my best guess.

There were a whole lot of gaseous expulsions last night on QT, Farron and the wee krankie got ripped into by an audience mainly concerned with terrorism and had no answers.
Wonder what the odds of Farron losing his seat are, pity no one asked what he planned to do if he failed to get elected.

I agree with you. The interesting point though is surely that if May has less than a 30 seat majority she will be under a lot of pressure from her own side and the knives may well be sharpened. More than a 50 seat majority and May will feel vindicated and strengthen her grip on the party
