If he is indeed going on the tour then I'd be shocked if he wasn't staying, especially considering that Turnbull isn't going

Personally I think Thomas will be staying purely on the fact that why would Robins be taking a player to Spain that he knows will not be playing next year.

My take on it is that this might suit both parties. Doing us a favour in signing and if he goes on to have a really good season he will be in high demand in January and his profile could well be higher and we can then sell him for more money than we would currently be getting right now. Plus he obviously gets guaranteed game time here that he wouldn't get at any Championship or Premier club,

maybe Thomas didn't get a beach holiday this year, and a Spain tour would be the next best, and Robins is feeling generous towards him ?

Maybe Robins has taken him on tour as it would push up his tribunal fee if he can say he was key to our plans for the season

Has it not crossed anyone's mind that a deal has been done with a loan back to Sky Blues - as happened with Maddison who Norwich loaned back to us ?

robins surely has to at some point say enough is enough, give me your decision by 5pm today or something similar(maybe 4pm lol)

Even if it's not with us which seems unlikely he's missing out on preseason work. The rest will do him good I guess as he played the Toulon tournament but at some point he will need to get playing matches again.

Just seems very strange that he's not fixed up yet.

Yeah, even for him. At this stage of his career, particularly this season, he should have a full pre season and be ready to go at it for game 1. Either with us to show he's worth playing higher up or with his new team to prove he's worth developing.

Makes no sense to either party that this has dragged on so long

To be honest, I'd forgotten about George. I'd say he's probably not going to sign for us if it's not done by now. Only explanation is he's seeing what else is out there which means he doesn't want to be here.

It could be that we can't agree on a compensation fee and are still negotiating?

Yep, could be that. I don't see a scenario now where he stays. I don't understand the clamour from clubs above to sign him to be honest. He's not yet proven in the lower leagues. I think he has potential but we all saw he needs to be playing regularly to up his game. Can see him doing what Bigi did and eventually disappearing into obscurity.

Would he then become a free agent and no compensation due? Or would it lower his value at compensation

Sounds like his agent is touting him around but nobody has made a firm offer.

Or that the only offers so far are for under 23 football. Maybe he wants first team but his agent just wants higher wage so not finding appropriate teams.

I still say if he was interested in staying he'd have signed by now.

Thing is with George Thomas who is he going to sign for where he'll get regular first team football, I'd say no chance at Premier level and at the moment restricted at championship level, perhaps one of the newbies like Sheffield United or Bolton maybe, so I would say top end league one. He's okay but I think he needs to learn his game more, if I was advising him I'd say stay atleast until the January window get established in our first team which hopefully does a lot better this season, if he produces the clamour for him will grow

What sort of agreement does a footballer sign with his agent? Who has the final say over where a footballer's future lies? The way its described, it's as if the agent tells the football who to sign for. I'd like to see players like Thomas repay their debt to the club by staying around, at least get the club back to where it was when it gave you your chance.

I always get the impression that even though the footballer has the final say they pretty much follow what the agent tells them.
There's a book out by an agent, I think called the deal, and it's meant to shine quite a bit of light on how it all works. Been meaning to get hold of a copy.

The player will have final say but they seem to get their heads turned by agents telling them what they want to hear.

The thing is though, footballers need to earn as much as possible as young as possible that's the way pro-football has gone unfortunately, If for example Thomas can secure a half million a year contract for 4 years that's 2 million quid less tax, how old is he ? 20/21 !! I got about 12 quid week at the Jag at that age. And agents generate the money rewards that's why player have them

Not really true with the money players earn today.

Depends if their motivation is to make money short term or to have a long successful career.

It's always the debate that he could break his leg first game of the season for us and never play again only picking up a standard wage over the next couple years of his contract. If he broke his leg playing his first reserve game for a premier league side he could still set himself up for life.

Surely any half-decent footballer would believe they'd have enough ability to get into the first team, anyway?

IMO this situation has gone on for too long.

If he wants to stay with CCFC and blossom here, sign the contract.

If you want to move on, just do it.

If I was MR I would be putting a time frame on GT's contract offer.

Depends if they are realistic or not. Do you think Thomas will be first team at any premier league side?
He might be in a couple of seasons.

Definitely won't be if he's stuck with us, being converted to a right back, and is stagnating in our reserves.

what makes you think we wont continue to have success with him from on field pov? i mean his progress not the teams. he did well 2nd half of season and under robins. that will continue if he stays
