Trial over
Former Chelsea FC defender Alex Davey has failed to impress Coventry City.
The 22-year-old product of the Premier League champions left Stamford Bridge – where he had been part of the Blues’ development squad – this summer.
A centre-half by trade, Davey has had loan spells with Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United in League One and, more recently, Crawley Town in League Two last season.
Sky Blues boss
Mark Robinsrevealed earlier in the week that the defender had joined the club for a trial, and he promptly played against a strong Southampton side in a behind-closed-doors match on Wednesday.
“He played in the game against Southampton and I decided not to pursue anything further,” said Robins, whose side lost 2-0 against the Saints.
“We wish him all the best, obviously, but he won’t be doing anything with us at the moment.”
