Save Our City Statement re Hoffman CCFC Talks


After four years of poor stewardship SOC feel it is time for SISU to relinquish the ownership and actively seek the sale of the club, however without knowing the full details of any offer it would be impossible to give it our unequivocal backing.



Save Our City give a cautious welcome to the news that CCFC and Gary Hoffman have announced talks regarding the future of Coventry City.



It is obviously very early days in the process but we would urge both sides to conduct these talks constructively, positively and ensuring that, above all else, any decisions made are for the long term good of the club, the supporters and the community the club serves.


We will be seeking clarification from the club and Gary Hoffman of their respective positions and their short and long term plans for the club.



Save Our City are openly willing to work with both parties to help achieve an outcome that is for the long term benefit of all concerned: the club, the fans and the community.

This is one of the things I meant last week, it seems to be a bit strange. Would Hoffman / SISU really want SOC's permission to go ahead with a multi million pound takeover? Would they care what SOC said about the takeover? Would these business people really need the help of a few fans?

No offence to the SOC fellas, but again when you see a title saying "SOC Issue Statement" it is way too formal and just puts people off

Cannot see anywhere in the statement where we are demanding they ask our permission? Yes we have asked for a bit of clarification about both sides intentions - wseems fair enough or don't you care about what each side has to offer or intends to do with the club. Would they care about SOC - well both sides have been talking to us so I guess they must hold us in some regard. Does either side give a toss about the fans? Would be nice to think that Hoff does but no harm in asking him is there? As for the help business - I myself doubt if there is anything we can do to practically help the process but there is no harm in offering if it might help resolve the current situation.

I really fail to see your problem with the group trying to show a degree of organisation and professionalism? Will you be objecting to the fact we have an agenda for the forthcoming meeting - should we just say turn up and well just have a general natter about things?

a) If they are cautious about revealing their 'respective positions' to each other - they aint gonna to SOC

b) When its all agreed and they will announce the plans anyway - it's just the norm.

So, in a case like this... "better to stay silent and be considered a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt"

What are you meeting for? SISU have already said that they are entering talks? Job done. You only need to pipe up if Hoffman gets frustrated or gets the cold shoulder again. No need for the meeting - save everyone's beer money to buy a programme when Hoffman takes over.

If soc is the fans collective then how can you make a statement without having the meeting first. Every time I ask I am told soc is a group of fans and not just you guys on the board. This statement being put out without a consultation totally contradicts that. I look forward to soc becoming a proper fans group, at which time I shall join up, if thats how it works.

This is my problem... What do you mean you're "with them"? You mean you support them? If so, in one line, please tell me - what are you supporting?

Lucha - we cannot have a meeting every time we want to do something, that's just impractical. You have to accept that the committee was elected at the meeting and therefore has a mandate to carry out some tasks - issuing a simple statement being such a task. If you disagree with the statement or anything else we are doing please come to the meeting and tell us and we will listen. We don't have the monopoly on good ideas etc so the more the merrier.

I really don't see what the problem is. They've put out a statement that basically states what all of us have said at some point - SISU have been poor in their management of the club, we'd like new owners but we don't want to be in the same position with them. It's just showing that the talks are supported but with an air of caution. It's not exactly controversial stuff!

Also, Mexico - why do I use head and shoulders and clearasil when I don't have dandruff or spots? That's a kind of analogy for why SOC should probably still keep meeting.

I wonder how many supporters groups across the country cause as many divisions among the support as this one-SOC haven't tried to impose anything on supporters, and aren't belittling people who have financial/work/family etc commitments. In the past month, the club's horrendous state of affairs has been given a lot of air and paper time in national and regional press, which up to that point, just wasn't happening. How much of that is down to SOC? A pretty big chunk of it.

No. It's it's not a strong analogy. Head and shoulders/clearasil both are preventatives. So far, there is no proof that SOC has any effect on the club (or it's financial decisions) whatsoever.

We haven't and won't comment on every bit of news - nothing about transfers etc from us but this was quite a big story and was connected to the main issue that we have been on about - a potential change of ownership - so I feel we are justified in issuing a statement.

Obviously the fans want the best for the club, I dont like being negative but it just seems to be over estimating the authority of soc ( unless there is more to it )

Couldnt agree more with you Nick. I have no axe to grind with the SOC boys but a vehicle that was used for the common fans amongst us to vent our spleens via demonstrations is quickly becoming a gentlemans club for the good and the great. The spark seems to have gone since Brinner and the likes used this forum to call us to arms and unite against SISU. No fan association will have a bearing on what goes on at our club unless the fans have a major share holding, then how could a few represent the voice of up to 20,000 fans without gaining these peoples opinions. What must happen is SISU and Hoffman must be left alone to negotiate a deal without any unelected fans voice giving a formal opinion. It wasnt long ago that in their last statement they said they would work with the owners whom ever this may be. But lets make one thing clear,if hoffman fails, talking to SISU wont change their course. We all need to keep our powder dry until we know who will be at the helm, only then can we either celebrate or discuss via forums like this what the fans want to do en masse, the only way things can be affected is if we are united as a collective in what we do. Well it seems the knives are out for the protest group SOC and I say protest group because that is what it WAS. So now a glimmer of hope of sisu going and the anti protesters are here sharpening the knives.

It is easy to stick your heads above the surface now it's looking a little rosier, shame you didn't a least applaud the efforts of those who wanted to make a difference.
Funny how the majority on all polls agreed that they want sisu out and yet are happy to do nothing to try and make a difference

I'm not part of the SOC - I don't live in Cov. But I don't see what harm they're doing. In fact, they've got a lot of publicity. I'm not entirely sure what everyone's expecting from a supporters group. I don't think it's a bad thing they've come out with a statement of this sort, it's letting the board know that the supporters still aren't happy. Unless you are happy? You don't have to join in, reply, support or oppose anything the SOC do, it's not as if they're pushing forms in your face to sign. I'm not an avid supporter of the group, but I don't take offense to anything they're doing.

The whole thing started because of ALL fans unrest and dislike of sisu and an organised protest was organised. Now all of a sudden it's "a select few" who decide what's going on. It seems it's turned into a bit of a snob fest to be honest. Statements, agendas etc is all a bit much.

Well that's a load of my mind, I was fearing that this deal wouldn't go ahead because a few people down the Hen Lane Social disagreed with it..

If you're going to back anyone - back the team. Whilst SISU are in charge, go to all the away games - when they go, support the team by going to the games.

Perhaps if we did this for "OUR" football club in the first place, instead of moaning about the lack of success - we might not be in this position in the first place?

1. Yes, the club will still be viable. Too complicated to explain why and no point because it makes much more sense to sell before that (As per their obvious plans). There is ALWAYS someone who will buy the club for £1 from an administrator whilst there are this many fans turning up - they ALL have to pay to get in, meaning creditors have a chance of getting their money back.

2. I am doing something constructive - I'm trying to keep silly 'title/perk seekers' from getting involved and hindering processes from 'real businessmen' trying to buy businesses. Time for bed kids - Leave the adults to it!

TBF I don't know an awful lot about 'Save Our City' but they are a refreshing change from the Sky Blue Trust who have all but dissapeared off the face of the earth.

Personally I would like a fan or some kind of fans group/representation on the board. But one day at a time...
