Good to see he's going into the series on form, could do with a few of the others following suit!

Bairstow left the field injured but returned.
Good 6 wickets today and glad Jimmy took a rest before the 1st test. Bit reliance on Ali in the series particularly if Stokes doesn't turn up so I am sure the aussies will be targeting him for a lot of sledging.

Woakes takes six wickets against the Aussie also-rans, which is good. However, Moeen and Curran take none and Broad a solitary tail-ender. Three catches dropped and England unable to dislodge the tail-end who have put on as many runs as their top-order.
Ball and Anderson not involved since not fully fit.
Nor seeing much that gives me confidence in the first Test.

Poor Curran getting stick when he's not even playing!

England making a fairly resolute start to their innings.
101-0 at the moment.
Stoneman seems to be doing pretty well so far in this tour.

I’ve seen AUS rumoured line up, I feel more confident.

Allegedly Warner, Bancroft, Khawaja, Smith, Handscomb, S.Marsh, Paine, hazlewood, Starc, Cummins, Lyon

I heard an interesting stat the other day about Starc. He averages 50 against top 5 batsman, 30 against middle order and 5 against the, tail

I feel it we can get Warner and Smith our early we’ve got a good chance. Likewise they’ll be feeling the same about Cook and Root. Going to be more interesting then people think

Aussies squad selection has certainly given England more hope.

Bancroft is in form but untested at Test level, scored run for Gloucestershire over the past couple of seasons so I'm sure their will be plenty of analysis and pre knowledge on him.

Paine is an odd one no test for 7 years was quitting the game a few months back offered a last min deal by his state, plays but doesn't keep wicket.

Marsh him and his bro are not popular and people feel they've only been selected due to their dad.

We'll wait and see but it's good to see the Aussies getting on their teams backs.

Batting lineups are similar (if we had Stokes I would say ours is marginally better if we were facing the same attack) but Aus bowling line up is FAR superior.

Well that's the most worrying aspect. They are far superior AND bowling on wickets suited to THEM.

We need one of our 'unexpected to have a great an impact' bowlers to have a stormer to support our frontline ones. Simon Jones back in 2005 had a great Ashes series and we need something like that level of performance I would think.

I don’t think they are, their spinner is better than ours. But other than that, they’re quite close. We really need Ben Stokes out there.

I’m a big fan of Hazelwood, and whilst Starc Is good, Cummins is a bit untested if you like, he’s rapid but is nowhere near as devastating as MJ

On their own wickets though, I think that is a massive advantage and makes them more superior.

Hazlewood is absolutely class! He's like Glenn McGrath reincarnated (but not AS good and more injury prone).

Cummins they'll just wind him up and let him go.

Starc is Starc he's more in the Johnson mold and comparison, if he gets his tail up it could be disaster for England.
Keep him quiet and he might slip into the background.
Those 3 won't all last the series.

I hope England go with Overton and just see what he can do.
Ball I don't rate.

Still hoping Stokes is out there in Perth at the 3rd test series 1-1!

Ball is average to my mind.

England's women are making a bit of a pig's ear of this today.

4/2 in the second over of the T20 game.

The Aussie squad looks a bit strange to me. They're panicking and know that they aren't as strong as they made out. Recalling Paine is a shot in the dark and they've picked one lad specifically to play the day nighter as he swings the ball, well, guess what, so does Anderson. As for Marsh, he hasn't really worked before and I doubt he will again. The only chance they have is for Smith and Warner to get loads of runs and Warner is always going to offer chances.
I'm going for a 3-1 win to England in the series.

I genuinely think Hazelwood is their best bowler.

Starc is nowhere near as threatening as Johnson was, he’s not as hostile.

I quoted earlier a stat I’d found amazing that his average against the top 5 is 50, I’ve always though the key to this ashes is who’s shit batsmen score more

Without don't Hazlewood is.

Starc and Johnson are completely different, Johnson bangs it in and gets the batsmen on edge and then caught out by the short ball.
Starc is more pitch it up go for bowled and LBW.

Wish Stokes was there and you'd oddly fancy England but I still can't see past 4-1 Aus.

Brisbane is key, lose there and were effectively 2-0 down we always lose in Perth...

Get out of there with something and the Aussies will come down on the players, and I really expect Stokes to be out there soon, ideally by Adelaide

Weather permitting can't see any draws.

Perth is 3rd after Adelaide

Adelaide and Melbourne are England's 2 hopes

If they can get to Sydney at 2-2 who knows.

Hazel wood is steady and consistent but starc will take more wickets over the series. If we lose the first test we are going to struggle but not an easy place to start, no one tends to fair well in Brisbane.

The point is they are on form NOW. Smart selections if you ask me.

Hardly he's managed to 50's in his last 2 inns nothing before that this season & doesn't keep wicket for his state. He's been chosen as the best of a bad bunch.
Not an inspiring selection.

Bancroft is more than deserved.

They'll play on more responsive wickets in the tests. The Aussies tried to produce dead wickets in the warm ups and suceeded with this one. At least the bowlers all got some overs in. Probably will do more good than skittling them out in 30 overs.

It would have been nice for Ali & Crane to have got a few on a 4th day wicket all the same.

So what we going for at Brisbane? My pick would be-
Cook
Stoneman
Vince
Root
Malan
Bairstow
Ali
Woakes
Overton
Broad
Anderson

I think they'll got with Ball over Overton though.

Overton is useless with the bat and we cannot afford that!
Maybe if the other batsmen show some form, he'll come in later.

Rumours that the police investigation in to Ben Stokes is being wound up and there will be no action taken. Could shortly be on the way to join the rest of the squad in Aus.

I think this has legs, interesting Stokes has posted his first tweet in anger in months and it's having a pop at Hayden having a pop at England & now footage of him batting in the nets!

Probably giving the ECB far too much credit but if he turns up for the first test match that would be a huge boost for England. You couldn't plan it better.

England's women drew their Ashes series with the Aussies after winning their final T20 game with a record run chase, scoring 181 in 19 overs.
As holders, the Aussies retain the Ashes though.
A draw is a very respectable result on their turf. Let's hope the men can do as well.
